Thank you, KwanBoy for the COP for Dummies, it's making COP a little easier to understand for me. I'm just getting back into the figure skating loop after 'sitting it out' for a few seasons, so I'm newer to COP than Michelle is!

    hey kwanboy,

Maybe you can do this with the COP for dummies

    Program Components Score (PCS)
    • Interpretation (IN) - blah, blah, blah
    • Choreography (CH) - blah, blah, blah
    • This way, it'll look alot less busy...
    You can also use this
    1. Wheeee
    2. Cool!
    3. Wowozers!
    Good job BTW!

    ANd you already did!

    Maybe some indentations?

How about adding in the Well-balanced program concept for the long... numer of jumpong passes, number of spins, etc.

Oh and another deduction are illegal maneuvers such as backflips and such

Haha! Thanks for the feedback, additions, and praise Kwancierto. I should add you to the credits. Version 1.4 in the works right now, AND, if I can get it done a TOTALLY revised and reader-friendly 2.0 in the next few days.

So is my COP for Dummies MKF approved or what?

Your COP for Dummies is definitely approved! Thumbs up!

Maybe for version 2.0, you can do something like what Heather and the mods have done with the FAQS.

Have the opening post be a table of contents linking to following threads that has the individual info on each section.

    Kind of like this:

    COP for Dummies
    1. Terms
    2. Program Requirements
      • Single
        • Short Program
        • Well-balanced Freeskate
      • Pairs
      • Dance
    3. Technical Element Scores
      • Jumps
      • Spins
      • Spirals and Steps
      • Pair Moves
    4. Program Components
    5. Grades of Execution
    6. Deductions
    7. Frequently Asked Questions
      1. What's a good Score?
      2. Using Michelle's Program to add up COP
Oh and maybe you can add a history of the COP as well.

Good going and good job! BTW, you're COP for Dummies has made it all the way to the USFSA D-Board

WOWZERS! I'm FAMOUS! Your suggestions are very good ones Kwancierto! HEy, how about you're my Editor? I'll be reworking it a little bit later, hopefully Version 2.0 will be worthy of a 10.0 in Choreography!

Sure, I'll be your editor. I'll help in whatever way I can.

As a judging system, I like CoP. FOr me, it helps me to really scrutinize the program. Some don't see it that way but it takes a while for something as complex as CoP to be uderstood by the masses. But your guide will certainly be an asset to all. I wouldn't be surprised if this shows up on FSU or on the ISU.

I'm telling you, by the time Nats or the Olympics come around. Everyone will be referring to your guide.

Oh, another addition you may want to add is the history of CoP. How it started and why?

Nah. I don't want to give the who's and why's though I am adding in all the small little details that I think I overlooked. I think it's important to have all the basic information and some examples given as to why a spin or such got a certain level, what features are, and so forth. I'm working on some of it right now. Hopefully I will have a new one up later today. And you've been helpful, as well as other people n this thread, bringing up things I didn't think of an such. So a big thank you to everyone in this thread for asking questions and such. You're helping me put together a much better guide than I thought. This was just for quick referecing for the Protocl Sheets at first. NOW LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!!!!

I'm gonna lost sleep this week. I can tell already.

It seems to me that MAYBE I should keep to my expertise, the technical aspects of skating. All these posts and postings and debating in the other threads is giving my head a hammer of a headache. I'm glad to be helping people out.

Well apparently I have to make a website because there is a 15000 word/character limit on the forums. (Not sure which one it is!) I did some revising for Version 1.4 but the board won't let me edit because it's almost 25000 words/characters! Holy Smokes KwanFans!

I'm going to still revise for the most part on my computer and see what I can do about either making a new, multi-posting thread or getting a free web-host for people to look at it. Thanks again everyone for the kind words and thanks to Kwancierto my Editor!

P.S. I revised the graphic again. hehehehehehe

    lol... Thanks Kwanboy! Hee Tee!

To add: What's a good score?

For the ladies: 65 or more in the short and 110 or more in the long...

    Heather or the mods?

How did you guys create the FAQ multi-thread? That would help kwanboy keep the CoP for Dummies in the Forum...

Here is an example for you kwanboy! It'll take alot of work though!

Edited: Added to COP for Dummies

I might, JUST MIGHT, have to do a multi-thread after I am done with the NEW AND IMPROVED COP for Dummies! Either that or I have to make a web page!

I think you are right! It is 60 or over for the SP... They did say that in Skate Canada!

Here is the scores for Pair Throw and Twists! The base score is the score right before the first -GOE. I got these from the ISU website. I think the Twists maybe outdated as they now have Levels?

Ohhhhh, tankies tankies! See! There is a reason why you are my editor! Payraise! Payraise!

The twist lifts are wrong though, now twist lifts have levels! ZOMG! But thank you for the throws. I can now complete the entire list for pairs! But I am NOT interested in ice dancing! EWW.

Someone else will have to do COP for that. Cause it won't be me!

In pairs, if both skaters fall on the same element, is there a -1 deduction for the team or a -1 deduction for each skater?

Those technical callers and specialist better know their CoP. With some many details to keep in mind, the technical callers may miss call some thing like call a Triple Twist Level 4 into a Triple Twist Level 3.

Yikes, how the heck do you acheive a Level 4 Triple Twist Lift?

That's a good question! Who would like to research this one?

Thanks Kwanboy! This is both helpful and entertaining. I'm going to have to reread this stuff again as Nationals approaches! Loved the cover- too cute!

It's a character limit (and we actually had it lower before I started to work on the Welcome Thread, lol.) I'm working on this for you. I'll post back when it's hopefully ready (though I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out as well.

The FAQ is separate from threads, so it's sort of prebuilt into the forum. We had to edit and add a ton of stuff of course. However, the Welcome Thread does have the link within a post, like you tested in Feedback, and I'm working on having that available in this thread

WOOHOO, I figured it out. IGNORE the view count for this thread, lol. I had to copy the thread multiple times, delete all but the first post, and then merge it with this original thread. The problem was making sure KwanBoy's posts were all at the top (my first try didn't do that.) But I got it all fixed now, and I'm sure no one else cares how anyway.

Kwanboy, it's set up now so you have 10 posts to play with. Just go in and edit the posts. That should really work well if you do the link to later in the post like kwancierto de aranjuez mentioned, or even just a different section in each post.

    Hi,
I want to thank you for this. I certainly don't understand these scoring concepts and I have my doubts that the ones judging really do either. I wonder if there is a special camera that follows the skaters; feeds the visual into a computer that is on each judges table and makes recommendations as to the scoring. The judge could review certain elements that he/she may feel needs to be looked at more closesly. Then these complex scoring rules may be implemented. Just a thought. I said I didn't get it. How the human eye can be watching for all of these elements and the brain keeping track or the points in a matter of minutes is beyond me. Let's just hope that it is fair to all skaters as judging certainly hasn't been in some past events. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Ok but how do I do that? LMAO! Oh my. Maybe I can put up a table of contents in the first thread and you can edit it to hyperlink to the other posts? I know html, but thans when working on an entire page of my own stuff, not trying to link to vertain parts of a page or what not!

VERSION 2.0 IS UP AND RUNNING! W00T!!!!!!!
