Heart Michelle in San Jose for Nationals 1/5/18

I had been reading that Michelle and Ben Agosto will be interviewed by Nick McCarvel this evening.

The Ladies' Long Programs will be televised tonight on NBC beginning at 7 p.m. (Central Time). If you have IceNetwork, you're in good shape. There may be a podcast as well. I will check it out later.

Another lovely photo of Michelle: https://twitter.com/RobynKanter/stat...37363213627392

I wonder if Michelle will present the awards this evening. That would be lovely!

So glad to see her! Of course, NBC didn't show any of this. They're not even showing the men's free on their regular free channel, only on NBCSports. But I have to say I was really thrilled with the results of the Ladies' free!

We didn't get to see any of the interviews or even know Michelle was in the house. I wasn't on the computer last night so I didn't see these wonderful photos until tonight. She is still so loved. If she skates at the Olympics, that place will go crazy. South Korean fans love her just as we do here. Thanks for all the wonderful pictures. Gosh I miss her but she seems to be very happy. I love seeing her involved in figure skating.

Michelle's name is almost taboo on NBC. Michelle Kwan won 9 U.S. Championships--the most ever! I cannot understand the reasoning that totally eliminates even one mention of her during the broadcast of the U.S.Figure Skating Championships. Both Sarah Hughes and Sasha Cohen were mentioned briefly. There was a special segment about the 20th anniversary of Tara's Olympic gold. Johnny and Tara were given air time to discuss Tara's bright Olympic star. I did not watch. Someone tweeted that Johnny mentioned Michelle.

In the meantime, Michelle was signing autographs, giving interviews, cheering for the skaters. Her presence was felt even if she was not on NBC's cameras. The cameras did catch some of the other great skaters during the competition.

I'll see if I can locate any of Michelle's interviews.

I agree with everyone who feels that Michelle needs more mention, especially during U.S. Nationals where she was so dominate for so many years. They show former skaters sitting in the stands frequently, and even interview some of them. The only mention Michelle got this time was during Johnny's interview of Tara. Johnny asked how Tara prepared for her rivalry with Michelle. Tara recalled '98 nationals and the fall during her short program and how that hurt her confidence at first, but then motivated her to prove Tara mentioned that she covered her ears before going out on the ice for her long program in Nagano, because she didn't want to hear Michelle's score. She said that she must have uncovered them too quickly, because she heard Michelle getting a sting of 5.9's. She thought "they've left no room for me no matter what I do so I just need to go for it."

    Heart I finally met Michelle!

I was in San Jose this week and spotted Michelle many times. She was in the private booth above my section (Karen Kwan, Evan Lysacek, Vera Wang, and many others were there too.) I missed out on the platinum Q&A Saturday morning because I wasn't feeling well, but our very own WorldsGreatestMK (also known as KJ) got me these:

After the Men's free skate Saturday night, KJ and I were talking and trying to decide what to do when we realized that Michelle and her people were still there. We waited a while, talked with Karen Kwan (albeit briefly and very awkward because she was on a mission), and eventually Michelle emerged. (Side note: Evan Lysacek still looks fit enough to compete, and Vera Wang is beautiful in person! I never though I'd run into her.) Fans were still hovering, so she grabbed my hand and we quickly walked down the concourse out of view and she took a picture with me. It's a terrible picture of me, and my tent of a dress makes me look like a whale, but I finally got to meet Michelle!

Given that this Nats was celebrating the anniversary of various OGMs in years ending in "8" -- including the anniversary of you-know-who's win in '98 -- I think it better that Michelle was "left out of things", rather than having to "re-live" something that can't be a pleasant memory for her.

She remembered because when I saw Michelle earlier that morning (when she made the video), I said she is Synnabun on the MKF.

ETA: Here is my picture with Michelle!

I think there were some noses out of joint when Michelle declined an invitation to be a commentator after withdrawing because of injury in 2006. Might they be holding a grudge after 12 years? If so, I would cheerfully wash their mouths out with some soap I made in high school chemistry lab.

so happy for Synnabun for meeting her and getting a pic. While I didn't get to watch all of the coverage, what I did watch, the ladies..i wondered WHY they were showing pics of her with everyone else, nor mentioning her. I mean, She has more US titles than anyone has 9or most likely will ever have...at least for a very long time. so WHY NOT ? she did more for the US than the gold medal winners. Oh well, she's more popular without gold than most of them with golds are anyway. we love her regardless of NBC, or anyone else.
She is not point to point, she is everywhere! She is MichaelAngelo and the ice is her chapel.~.KIRK WESSLER, sports editor, from the PJ Star in Peoria, Illinois.

Totally agree with you Kwanatic. Love your Avatar. It shows so much emotion in her face and love for what she was doing....skating.
