Default Olga Korbut Olympic Medals Auction

I'm stunned to learn that Olga Korbut is auctioning off her Olympic medals:

Thanks for sharing these articles, Rick. I am somewhat surprised and a bit saddened by this turn of events. I see Olga's point, however.

I don't really see the point. If she wants people to see them, she could just keep showing them to people herself. This way, there's a chance that a private party will buy them and lock them up in a safe somewhere. You would think that some museum in Russia might want them, but if that was the case, the Soviets would've just confiscated them when they had the chance.

I only hope that Michelle never does this.

The auction was held, and Olga's medals and other items sold for a total of $229,200. Already, I note that one of the auctioned items is now listed for sale on eBay for almost $6,000:

And it's not even a medal--just an ID badge and ponytail holder!

I think (hope) it's safe to say that Michelle's medals are pretty much permanently ensconced on the second floor of the EWIP.
