Default 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championship in St. Paul

    Hello,

Haven't check into here in a long time and after watching this afternoon prompt me to finally look up MKforum. So far, enjoying US Nat'l's, some heartwarming and exciting skating I've watched on NBC. Now, waiting for the top female skaters upcoming. I always like Elvis Stoko from the 1990's and it was great to watch some males short skates and I remember this guy who Max Aaron missing out on the Olympics and I am still a fan even though popular opinion is that he is not your artistic skater (as I said, I was a fan of Elvis during his competitive days in the 90's and was a fan of others too who were well rounded skaters with more grace.

Anyhow, just thought I'll start a 2016 US figure skating championships thread. Some great skating and now watching the ladies long. I am an NBA fan, too, so been watching Chicago Bulls and Cleve Cavielers, too. Recognise Michelle's music with vocals right now.

Great, NBA is in commercial. Great music while I typed this (imagining Michelle skating since it is her music (but with vocals). Great music.

    Go Chicago!

Enjoyed watching it this weekend. The ladies got interesting. Although she did well, I wasn't sure if Gracie was close enough to pass Polina at first. What did you think about the judging in men's? Johnny and Tara were questioning/criticizing it. I am not sure.

I enjoyed watching too. The highlight for me was the Shibutani's finally becoming national champions. They have been overlooked for too long. Both the ladies and men's long programs provided lots of excitement, and proved to me that they can be very competitive at Worlds. I am happy that Adam finally got a national title and understand why he got the points he did. I'm just surprised that max and Nathan weren't rewarded more for their quads since that is so important in men's international competition.

I didn't even realize that figure skating was on TV last week until I got a call from my brother, just at the end of the ladies' competition. I did enjoy watching the men, though, and also watched the Skating Spectacular this afternoon. Fortunately, they showed all of the winning performances. I really felt that the Shibutanis' skate to Cold Play connected to me in a way that many of their past skates have not, and I was happy that they finally got a national championship. NBC said they will be showing the European Championships at 4 p.m. EST tomorrow (Sunday). so I know what I'll be doing at that time.

Universal HD has also been showing Europeans throughout the week. They often repeat programing so if you missed anything you might be able to catch it again. Also NBCSN has been rebroadcasting parts of US Nationals.

Nicki, thank you for the various ways of accessing programs I have missed, but I have to say that I do not have cable on my TV. OK, I admit it, I tend to be very thrifty, i.e. cheap, and when I have looked at the channels offered, I figured I wouldn't watch them enough to warrant the cost.

From a personal point of view , I was sorry that Jason Brown was unable to compete. I know he doesn't have a quad, but I always enjoy the artistic elements of his programs. His hometown is about 15 miles from mine, and I have always had a soft spot for skaters who started their skating in the Chicago area.

Hopefully this time away from the Ice will be healing for Jason, and he can come back next year better than ever.
