Today, 9/8, is either the 3rd or final day of the "39 in 4" journey of Clay's campaign. Clay has pledged to visit 39 cities/towns in RI over a 4-day span.

    According to Michelle's post today-it's Day 3:

    https://twitter.com/MichelleWKwan/st...743104/photo/1 (Michelle looks adorable.)

According to Clay, this is Day 4:

    https://twitter.com/ClayPell/status/...468864/photo/1

I believe the journey started on the 5th and this, I think, is the 4th day for Clay. I think they'll be back in Providence at the Biltmore tomorrow to await results.

More pics of Michelle--looking gorgeous (9/8) on the campaign trail:

Gov. Chafee endorses Clay--endorsement gets mixed reviews:

John Gizzi ‏@johngizzi Gov. Chafee endorses Clay Pell in RI Dem primary for gov. Tues, but Pell's greatest asset is his wife, Olympic great Michelle Kwan.

BREAKING: Gov. Lincoln Chafee is endorsing Clay Pell for governor on the eve of Tuesday's Democratic primary. http://wpri.com/2014/09/08/gov-chafe...r-ri-governor/ … (link to article)

Providence RI GOP ‏@GOProvRI "@tednesi: BREAKING: Gov Chafee just endorsed @ClayPell in the D primary." Ah, the kiss of death (really negative!)

Hard to tell whether this is good or bad. Gov. Chafee won the governor's job last time as an independent by a slim plurality in a three-way race. He has never been very popular. (Interestingly, Chafee's father and Clay's grandfather were the two senators from Rhode Island, one Republican, one Democrat, for years and years.)

On the other hand, the negative comments seem to be mostly from Republicans, who are not going to vote in the Democratic primary anyway. But they like Michelle just fine. John Gizzi is a conservative Washington pundit who quotes this view in a article today:

"And Pell has done nothing but internships since Harvard," Dave Talan, former Providence GOP chairman, told Newsmax (Gizzi's blog). "His candidacy would be a joke if it wasn’t for his name and his wife, [former Olympic skating gold medalist] Michelle Kwan. She’s a far superior campaigner and if she had run, she wins in a walk."
(This site also "urgently" solicits readers to "vote here on the issue, should President Obama should be impeached".)

Two more remarks. Clay benefits from the fact that the Republican race is also hotly contested. This means that Republicans have their own business to attend to and will not be tempted to sneak over into the Democratic primary and vote against Clay.

The other thing is, if Michelle ever does decide to run for office, she will not have to resort to partisan mud-slinging and polarizing policy positions. She enjoys bi-partisan (and more important, non-partisan) popularity and affection.

Thanks, Mathman2, for your insightful thoughts and analysis.

Well, Clay calls it a wrap--the "39 in 4" journey is over!

    Michelle's response to Clay's ending pose/comments:

Can't believe we're almost there. Lots of negative tweets still coming in re: Chafee's endorsement. But, time out--time for the real deal--the vote. Clay has fought the good (and exhausting) fight. Hope my nerves hold up.

Clay looks like a super-hero who just cleaned up Gotham City.

Now the fun begins. Load 'em into the vans tomorrow and haul 'em off to the voting booths.

Feels like we should be eating tofu, chicken and Junior Mints. I think that Tuesday morning, I may just look in the closet for the lucky shirt that I used to wear on competition days. It's been a long time since I hung out in the "Excitement Pen." I'm sure I'll see a bunch of you there. I really couldn't be any more proud of Michelle. Still a hero ... better than ever.

They are matching today. Even walking away, Michelle looks fabulous! And the blue is the color of their campaign and their state--in most instances.

It's rumored that his other attempt at a secret weapon was marriage proposals to Shawn Johnson and Michelle Wie -- but they didn't bite.

Just found this tweet--if true, Clay has a chance--less than an hour to vote! Of course, it's too early to tell!

I am doing my own exit poll. Which is prettier, Michelle's blue dress that she wore when she went to vote, or the red one that she changed into for the afternoon get-out-the-vote surge?

With 1% of the precincts reporting, Clay is in the lead with 18 votes, to 5 for Raimondo and 5 for Taveras.

Too bad we have to wait for the other 99%.
