Default "It Couldn't POSSIBLY Have Been Michelle"

Nearing the end of my morning walk recently, I stopped at a street corner near my home, as a car approached the three-way intersection. As the car slowed to a stop in front of me, signaling to make a right turn, I immediately noticed that it was a charcoal-grey Prius, the same as Michelle's; and I did a bit of a double-take when I noticed that it also had Rhode Island license plates. What an interesting coincidence, I thought. Here Michelle's car has been so much in the news of late; and now I'm looking at one just like it -- and from Rhode Island to boot. What are the odds?

I was going to let the car proceed before I crossed the street. However the driver, a young woman, smiled sweetly and motioned me to cross. Waving my hand in thanks, I proceeded across the street. As I did, I glanced at the driver -- and, getting a better look at her, I was utterly stunned to see that she looked exactly like Michelle. Not something like her, not a lot like her, but EXACTLY like her. Right down to her smile -- Michelle's smile -- radiant enough to light up a room.

No, it can't be! I thought in utter shock. No way would Michelle be driving in, of all places, my neighborhood, located more than 3,000 miles away from Providence, Rhode Island. Impossible!

Probably looking like an idiot to the young woman as I gaped wide-eyed at her, I finished crossing the street. The instant I stepped onto the sidewalk, I heard behind me a woman's voice -- presumably from the Prius and sounding just like Michelle's -- call out, "I really like your writing!"

Immediately I turned around to reply -- and the Prius was gone. Vanished.

Quickly I looked every which way, up and down the streets, but the car was gone. There is no way it could have possibly sped away and disappeared out of sight in a split second. But gone it was, without a trace. What happened to the car, how it could have vanished in an instant, I haven't the slightest idea.

But of one thing I am certain: Whoever the driver was, it couldn't POSSIBLY have been Michelle.

    Could it...?

Thanks for sharing your story, Rick. I really enjoy your writing, and today, it has helped me to stop thinking about some other problems! Love the story's relevance to Michelle's real life. Please keep writing--I can see that it is your passion.

I'm so glad my story took your mind off some problems! I hope that whatever those problems are, they're resolved quickly.

This story was actually based on something that happened to me the other day. I was taking my daily walk, when a charcoal-grey Prius that looked exactly like Michelle's drove by. The instant I saw the car the word "Michelle!" popped into my mind -- and, shortly thereafter, the idea for this story.

As for my other writing, just last week I was surprised to find a manuscript I had written four years ago, a tribute to Michelle titled, "...A Single Candle." In it I reveal just how much Michelle means to me, and why; and I also include a number of my MKF posts up until early 2010. I had totally forgotten I had written this.

Obviously this is something I can't put out commercially. But I'm thinking of excerpting it here on MKF.
