Thread: Olympics Ladies Free skate

It us easy to have high technical marks when your levels at the Olympics were higher than ever before and were not changed. When you don't get edge calls and your GOE's are far too high and your component scores are inflated.

She sure didn't look like an Olympic Gold Medal Winner at the gala tonight. She looked her usual self.

My home page just had a picture of Adelina huggung the Russian judge after the event, and the story with the picture echoed what has been said about judging of the ladies. ITA that she didn't look good at the gala. Couldn't figure out what she was trying to prove with those gigantic flags, which maybe were wings. If she was supposed to be a butterfly, she sure missed the mark. BTW it was nice to see the lighter side of Mao and Patrick Chan, and the French ice dancers made a nice statement by using the music "I Had The Time Of My Life."

I'm sad for the sport of figure skating. Am happy Yu Na stood up to the pressure (literally, and she had to wait I think around 9 minutes on the ice until they began her program music), because it shows just how fixed this was. The general public is not buying into this win and that does not bode well for the future of FS (a public feeling of loss of credibility tends to dry up the funding for it). In an odd way, I think the silver gave Yu Na more fans and support than another gold would have. Because just like another skater, she comported herself with dignity and class when the gold could have been hers. Even people who criticized her before, have given their support now. I was ecstatic for Mao and Carolina has improved her presentation leaps and bounds above where it was before. Now THERE'S an example of a skater who deserved improved marks in PCS. One comment in general though…. how many of these programs do you want to see again? The COP is forcing skaters to do jam packed cookie cutter programs. Where are the programs like Michelle's? Torville and Dean? G & G? So while I very much enjoyed the skating of Suzuki, Mao, Yu Na, Carolina and others…. it's just not the same. FS needs to swing the pendulum back to grace, elegance, simplicity, simple elements beautifully performed. Who wants to watch wobbles, falls, and injuries in the first year or two of seniors become the norm? Okay rant over.

LOL yeah Adelina's gala performance was pretty pathetic and left me saying WTF. I thought at first it was going to build to something then it just got more boring. I think the flags were just meant to distract us from her craptastic skating. Then Johhny had the nerve to say something like "She's already carrying herself and skating like an olympic champion." Are you kidding me?!? His pro-Russian attitude used to not bother me, but now he's just so over-the-top with it. It's laughable. He should move to Russia and stay there.

I had to stop watching figure skating after 2002 (not Michelle of course). I again feel I need to pull away. I feel disgusted that Hamilton, Lipinski and others in the skating community are not speaking up for blatant cheating. It's obvious to a lay person that Yuna was better than Adelina! I also think she should've been 3rd or 4th.

This is unfair to skaters who work so hard and fans who are so loyal! Shame on them, devaluing a sport that so many love!

Nothing like a little home cooking to inflate your scores beyond all reason.
