Default "Square Root-Balls and a Lucky Chauffeur"

I have no recollection as to whether I was a paid employee or a volunteer. Whichever was the case, there I was in the smallish gym of an unnamed high school, picking up, from a long table, a stack of 8” x 10” glossy photos that showed Michelle skating, and packing the photos carefully into a cardboard storage box.

My impression was that a meet-and-greet public appearance in the gym by Michelle had just concluded, an event that had included an autograph session during which she had sat behind the long table and signed photos for the attendees. I assume that I must have been a member of the crew packing everything up after the event was over.

Attired in a white skating dress, Michelle was standing nearby; and, despite the fact that the floor was hardwood and not an ice surface, she was wearing figure skates without guards. However, this didn’t strike me as the least bit unusual.

Realizing I would quite likely never have another opportunity to do so, I timidly asked Michelle if she would please allow me to take a photo of her. Although she seemed harried and pressed for time, she politely agreed, and adopted the same pose as her Madam Tussaud's wax figure. Snapping a quick photo with my small point-and-shoot digital camera, I thanked her.

Pocketing my camera, I picked up and carried the box containing the Michelle 8” x 10”s outside and placed it into the trunk of a black limousine that was waiting for Michelle. A moment later Michelle walked up to the limo, and the chauffeur, a man with slick and shiny black hair that looked as if it were slathered in Vaseline, opened the right-side passenger door for Michelle, who slid gracefully into the passenger seat.

Closing the door, the chauffeur climbed into the driver’s side of the vehicle, started up the limo, and drove off with Michelle. My impression was that he was taking her to another scheduled public appearance.

"Man, that guy is sure lucky to know Michelle," I thought wistfully as I watched the limo recede in the distance.

Then, looking at some trees in planter boxes nearby, I noticed that all of the trees were perched atop perfectly square root-balls -- not trimmed that way, but naturally square -- that extended a good eighteen inches above the soil. Noting this oddity I casually thought, "Hmm, I must be in a parallel universe."

And with that I awoke from this dream in which I had met Michelle at long last -- albeit the Michelle of another universe that contained some rather peculiar trees.

I just wish my real life was half as interesting!
