    Question 2014 Nationals Bid ?

Does anyone know why it's taking so long for the location of the 2014 Nationals to be announced? I was looking on-line and an article gave me the impression that Greensboro has put in a bid. Do we know what other cities are in the running?

Greensboro again?! They just hosted two years ago! I know they don't rotate by regions anymore. I went though the report of action and didn't see a sanction announcement, so your guess is as good as mine. They used to list all locations that made a bid. It might just take some more digging.

I am just waiting for, one day, Nationals to be near me! It was in Boston in 2001, that was the last time I went, and the last time it was within driving distance....

Glad I was able to make it to San Jose! Hopefully it won't be another 16 years before they come back to NorCal!

I wonder where it will be? The schedule is very early, December 31 to january 9th. The seniors all go first. I wish it was here in Buffalo, Ny area. Last time was 1972!!!

They may be having a hard time finalizing the deal. It's an Oly year, so who knows what's going on.

    Just saw this update.

“My understanding is it’s down to three sites: Boston, St. Paul (Minn.) and us [Greensboro NC],” said Kim Strable, president of the Greensboro Sports Commission. “Getting this far and being on the short list is good.”

There’s no guarantee. Officials from U.S. Figure Skating are making their final visits in the coming weeks and a decision likely be made some time in June, Carrow said.

Here's to Boston! Greensboro would be easier for me to get to, but I'd love to visit Boston one day.

Just a couple of tidbits that I've picked up around the internet! NBC realized they had a problem with the projected start of Nationals over the New Years weekend because they televise the NFL Wildcard game on Saturday! Because of that conflict, they pushed the schedule to further in January, though I haven't seen any actual dates anyplace, I'm guessing it will be at least 1 week later. All the bidders had to go back and look at the venues, hotels, etc. to see if a delay could be accommodated. After that change in schedule Denver disappeared off the list.

It seems that Greensboro, Boston, and St. Paul are the finalists and that according to an article in Greensboro the decision is supposed to be made by the end of next week.

Personally, I am rooting for Greensboro. I absolutely loved loved loved (did I say loved!!) having the practice ice, fanfest, and competitions in one complex. I know some fans don't give a hoot about practices, but I'm spending my money on an all event ticket so I want to decide if I want to watch a novice competition or senior men practicing!

I live in Spartanburg, SC and plan on making the trek back and forth. Are they still planning on the idiotic two-week schedule for Nationals?! I thought it was awful in 2010. Who the heck can take two-week vacations?!

Synnabun it does go over 2 weekends...but with a totally different setup than Spokane 2010. The tentative schedule would have started with official practices 1/1/2014 (Wednesday) and finished with all the senior events by that weekend on Sunday. On Sunday in the secondary arena the official practices for the novice/junior skaters would start. The novice and junior skaters would go through the week with the juniors finishing over the next weekend. The first weekend where the seniors would be competing is where the problem came in, since NBC will be broadcasting the NFL wildcard game. That situation triggered the change in the bid package with new dates....which I haven't seen anyplace.

Here is a link to Figure Skating Universe where the tentative schedule was shown:

I would probably only stay for the senior events. There is no possible way I would pay for hotels for 12 nights in someplace like Saint Paul or Boston. If it turns out to be Greensboro and I drive, I might stay....but I seriously doubt it.

January 5-12, 2014 at the TD Garden (same place as in '01, but it was FleetCenter then)

If we could only get Michelle to do a little ditty called East of Eden...

I just saw that... why can't they choose somewhere close to me (or at least where I know someone to crash with, like NC).
