Thread: Michelle Kwan Trophy time

    Default Michelle Kwan Trophy time

Vote for skater of the year.

I'd vote for Michelle but I guess I can't, she is my skater of the year, every year whether she skates or not.

I'd say this is pretty much in the bag for Evan, although I hope Mirai gets lots of votes!

I really really hope it either goes to Mirai or Davis/White. Evan won the gold, and deservedly, but frankly his performance was flat and not inspiring. (Plus, okay, I hate his personality. But even so, his skating wasn't amazing.)

Mirai was a pure delight and just dazzled at the Olympics, and Davis/White were also fabulous and have done so much for ice dancing.

I think at the end of the day, Mirai would get my vote.

I agree Mirai and Davis/White do deserve votes as well. I'm a huge Mirai fan, and this was a great breakout season for her, a glimpse towards the future.

But this award is more about accomplishments of the season than about sentimental feelings and charming personalities, so in that case, I do feel Evan is most deserving, with Davis/White 2nd.

I have to disagree w/Miss Eggplant. I thought Evan rocked the house that night...spot-on and joyful. He really developed a fine competitive spirit.
That said, maybe I will vote for Mark and Amanda...

I agree with Davis & White, and hope they win. They deserve it, totally! Need I say more on their behalf. My gosh, look at their performances!!! They had a great season all season long. I feel Mirai deserves votes as well (maybe second place) for her stellar National Championships and brilliance at the Olympics and in Worlds sp.

Evan won the trophy last year (for winning at Worlds, I suppose). He didn't have that great a year last season, but came through at the big events (except for Nats, where Abbott beat him). This season, Evan fared better through the season, but nothing too outstanding, and not good at Nats either (Abbott again beating him). Guess Evan was pacing himself for two solid performances at the Olympics. The difference for me is that I don't find Evan's skating at all inspiring.

Michelle Kwan, mucho inspiring goes w/o saying, as after all isn't that why she won so many times and the trophy is named after her; Davis & White, chills up-and-down the spine inspiring (unless you prefer the lyrical style of Canadians Virtue/Moir, who I enjoy watching, but D/W in my eyes are so frigging brilliant and they had the perfect match of programs, speed, talent, ability, execution, and in-the-zone performances); Mirai, absolutely inspiring, and can't wait to see her develop further.

Abbott should get some votes too, but he needs to find his mojo (and some consistency) in the penultimate moment of huge competitions.

(Kudos, Sparks!) I love Mark and Amanda. It was so great to see them perform a knockout sp at the Olympics -- their scores definitely should have been higher.

I voted for Mirai because I am still mad at the robbery at Nationals. Evan has an OGM. Mirai deserves this.

It's gotta be Evan. The first US men's OGM in 20+ years??!! Yep, definitely.

Evan is the obvious choice, Mirai quite deserving, but I gave my vote to D/W who had an amazing year!

I voted for Davis and White--they were PHENOMENAL this year! Every competition built upon the one before... they just kept getting better and better and stronger and stronger. How they could have strung those Olympic performances together and not come away with gold still baffles me but that's no rain cloud on what they did achieve.

D/W would definitely get Honorable Mention in my book. Shame we only get 1 vote.

True. Helen voted for Evan . Helen won't let her daughter vote for anyone who lists Sasha Cohen as her favorite skater.

I wanted to vote for just Charley - but since it was the duo or nothin, I voted for Mirai.
