    What is EDNA?
    Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
    The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is a proposed bill in the United States Congress that would prohibit discrimination against employees on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity for civilian nonreligious employers with over 15 employees.

    ENDA has been introduced in every Congress, except the 109th, since 1994, albeit without gender identity protections, but gained its best chance at passing after the Democratic Party broke twelve years of Republican Congressional rule in the 2006 midterm elections. However, some sponsors believed that even with a Democratic majority, ENDA did not have enough votes to pass the House of Representatives with transgender inclusion, and dropped it from the bill, which passed and subsequently died in the Senate. LGBT advocacy organizations were divided over support of the changed bill.

    In 2009, on the heels of the 2008 elections that strengthened the Democratic majority, and after the debacle of the 2007 ENDA divisions, only a transgender-inclusive ENDA has been introduced by House representative Barney Frank. President Barack Obama supports the bill's passage unlike his Republican predecessor, who threatened to veto the measure.

    I am astounded that these people are crying that their freedom to discriminate against their fellow Americans is being "trampled on" or taken away! No one will be FORCED into anything.

    It looks as if a man in a skirt is more dangerous than Al Qaeda to this group.

    Among many ridiculous "objections" to the proposed law, this one takes the cake:

    Employees who express reservations about homosexual conduct will find themselves out of a job.
    Really, when would it EVER be appropriate to discuss sexuality (gay, straight, whatever) while on the job? With or without any new law, I would hope that any employee who spends work time on this topic would indeed be out of a job.
    Not just because it takes attention away from work, but because it could easily offend customers and/or clients.

    If people really feel the need to spout anti-gay views, there's plenty of opportunity to do so when away from their jobs.

    Same with ANY kind of bigotry.
    Just imagine: Some people spout off that they don't want to share bathrooms with Blacks, Latinos, Native Americans, Irish, Italians, French, Texans, New Yorkers, Figure Skaters, Dwarves, Attorneys, Single Parents, Former Soldiers, Dentists, Republicans, etc.

    What kind of America is that?

    I am at a loss..how will ENDA trample on one's religious beliefs?


    Religion doesn't belong on the job.

    Unless you work in a place of worship.

    Otherwise, it stays home.

    Exceptions: If you wish to have a private prayer, then that should be allowable.

    According to some, supporting ENDA makes you NOT a Christian.
    Where is it written that Christians are supposed to discriminate against those who are different?

    Gee, all this time I thought we are all God's children.

    Plus, some non-Christian religious groups (including most Muslims) are more universally
    anti-gay than many Christian groups. So, in actuality, opposition to ENDA would be just as likely to make you "a good Muslim" as a "good Christian."
