Default Teamusa.org: Kwan's Comments On Evan and Frank

I'm sure this link is buried in another thread in skating chat, but here is an article on Evan with Michelle quotes:

    http://figureskating.teamusa.org/new...-lysacek/32915

Section with Michelle talking about Evan and Frank:
The quad controversy is raging in Moscow, but on this side of the Atlantic there was much cause for celebration. Michelle Kwan, an Olympic silver medalist in 1998 and a bronze medalist in 2002, is one of Lysacek's close friends. She was in the stands in the Pacific Coliseum Thursday night to witness his gold-medal performance.

"I texted him that he's the first person I actually watched skating that made me tear up,'' Kwan told www.teamusa.org.

When asked if she cried after his performance or when she realized he won the gold medal, Kwan replied, "Both.''

"He skated like an Olympic champion,'' Kwan said.

Lysacek was the first skater to perform in the final group of the men's skaters, and when he finished his program, Kwan said she knew it would be a tough battle since Plushenko still had yet to skate.

"I knew Evgeny had the quad toe-triple toe but he left an opening for Evan,'' Kwan said. "Evgeny was shaky, not rock solid. Evan was rock solid.''

Lysacek's victory also was a double gold in Kwan's mind. Not only did Lysacek win, but it marked the first time Frank Carroll (who had been Kwan's coach as well) had guided a skater to the top of the Olympic medal podium.

Carroll, considered one of the most technically proficient coaches, had always been snakebit when it came to the Olympic Games. So it was appropriate that Lysacek, who had two snakes on his costume, was the one to bring the gold to him.

"For him to now have an Olympic champion ... I am just thrilled beyond words,'' Kwan said. "He's an amazing coach and has had an amazing career. Now he's had a perfect career. To finally see that come true is just fabulous.''

Very nice. I recall how she handled her Oly results -- maybe, the ISU could hire Michelle to teach workshops on how to behave?

She is truly remarkable. Everything she says is absolutely beautiful and comes from the heart. I love you Michelle. You are not only a beautiful skater, but a beautiful person. Inside and out. God Bless

Debbwin...I thought the same thing as I read that. She truly knows what its like for us now, and yet, she knows what its like for the skater.

So looking forward to her performing agains some day!

Michelle is just so special and so classy. I'm loving that she was very thrilled for both Evan and Frank. I feel the same way...even though I am still bitter it wasn't Michelle winning Gold for Frank...

She is just so warm and kind and happy for her friends. She is such a refreshing dose of pure class.
    Love her and miss her.

How wonderful to read about Michelle's support for Frank and happiness that he finally has an OGM skater like he deserves. Not a hint of bittersweet feelings or jealousy since of course she should have been one of Frank's OGM skaters.

It's such a 180 from Sasha, who seemed eager to tear down Evan, who now has an OGM and she doesn't.

Thanks for posting this -- really really lovely article. MK = classiness.

I know she must have been super thrilled for Evan, considering how much he has says he has respected and looked up to MK in the past.

That was a great article. There are so many Plushenko sour grape articles out there that it was nice to read the truth and to hear Michelle's comments. Thank you for posting.

    I'm not "bitter" about it.
However the unfairness of it makes me cry, when I think of it - as I am now!

The funny thing is....even if Carroll has skaters winning gold medals from now on.... " Michelle Kwan's former coach" will probably be his favorite title...

The only skater who has brought me to tears (not only once, but many, many times) is Michelle. She has such a big heart and knows what it took for Evan to fulfill his dream. No bitterness from this golden woman--only joy and happiness. And how special for her to be there and witness Frank's greatness. I think I feel a few tears coming on, lol.

That Michelle Kwan girl is something else

Seriously, I have no more superlatives for this incredible young woman, but she is deserving of them all and some I haven't come up with yet! (Kwandifierous??)

I recall vaguely in one of his interviews that Evan said they give coaches some sort of a medal or recognition. Anyone know when that was and what Frank got?

If Frank goes on to coach ten more Olympic champions after this, he will, above all else, forever be remembered as the coach who shaped the ball of raw talent that was Michelle Kwan into the elegant, graceful, humble, and classy young woman the world fell in love with.

He coached the legend in US figure skating for the majority of her career. Michelle will forever be his greatest accomplishment...and don't think he doesn't know it.

Maybe this has been said elsewhere, but I see a lot of MK's graciousness in Evan's responses to Plushenko's comments after the free skate. Perhaps it's Frank's influence or Evan looking up to MK or just a good old-fashioned solid upbringing, but in my mind he carried himself tremendously.
