Thread: 2010 US National Championships - Ladies

we need to send people who desires to compete and who truly wants to go.....

I dont care about the record. In the pairs competition, Brumbaker HELD the best records and they didnt get to go.

After reading the LA article by Brennan, I really do not care about sending Sasha to the Olympic anymore.

I sympathesized with Sasha but after hearing her words of not seriously persuing and determined to get the gold... I dont want her at the Olympic anymore...

Ashley's performance was as stale as usual. She's overrated. I would have placed her in 5th or 6th place...

She may be just being realistic. She must know she can't outskate YuNa and Mao no matter how slippery the ice may be.

the deal is Sasha has already won a Silver, gotten her rounds of endorsements and ice shows and it's time to let others shine.....

If she was as special and as consistent as Michelle, I would have hands down, make her go, but she has a history of splatfest...

It's almost greedy.... I am glad to see her at nationals but that is it!!!

I disagree, IF Sasha is one of the top two skaters (scored fairly), she deserves to go. Splatfest...Hmmm...She did bring back the Silver Medal and she has the experience which could pay off with a possible Bronze. Should we also tell Tanith/Ben and Evan that they've had their turn and now let other skaters shine...Nope.

MKPerfect6.0, Didn't Michelle also miss the GP events in 2006 as well as Nationals but still went to the Olympics (due to injury). Why should Sasha be penalized for missing GP events due to injury?

Well, after reading the article, I am through with Sasha.

Like I said, she already has a Silver Olympic medal. She doesnt need anything anymore. We need the best out there and if it means sending Ashley and Mirai, I am all for it!!!

Sasha should not go to the Olympics. She didnt even help defend U.S. And we were stupid enough to send Alyssa, whom we all know was overrated last year.

I doubt there will be a Oly battle involving the U.S. ladies, but we'll see.

I feel if she comes in 2nd, she will go, i am more worried that if they for some reason they place her 3rd, they will send her instead of the 2nd place person...unless someone just lucks up and gets 2nd who is brand new to the scene.
I believe that the best two should go, based on the criteria set forth by USFSA, of which all skaters are aware. If Sasha places is judged fairly and is in the top 2, I'd say she deserves to go. I know there's a lot of debate about how she's not been around, didn't help the US get spots last year, etc. However, regardless of anyone's motivation for wanting to go to the Olympics, and regardless of actual chances to medal at the Olympics, and the desire to groom future skaters, the criteria are the criteria. Of course, I know there are other events besides the 2010 Nationals that are taken into consideration, but no US lady has really been all that great in those events. The only two who have recent, relatively successful results, IMO, are Rachel (Worlds last year) and Ashley (GPF this year). But neither of those results are all that great either.

Given all that, if Sasha places 3rd, I could see no case for her being named to the team, even if a relative newcomer places 2nd. Because, like I said, no one's really had great results, so pretty much everything probably should - and hopefully will - come down to the results of these championships.

Personally, I hope Mirai wins and gets named to the team. Her carriage and lightness are really beautiful, and in her SP, you could see that smile extending to the eyes, to use a phrase Dick Button once used. I'm hoping she's worked a lot on the Carmen program, which this fall wasn't so great.

Yeah--for a minute they told the truth. And then they remembered, NBC wants Sasha, the USFSA wants Sasha, Scott wants Sasha--for Stars on Ice.

NBC and Scott are both going to get a lot more if Rachael and Nagasu are sent to the Olympics. They'll probably be both at Worlds and win it!!!

I'm a little confused; does 1st place still get a guaranteed spot or no?

But chances are the USFSA won't have to resort to not picking 1-2 for the team; the judges will take care of that with + GoE and placeholder PCs... c'mon, a flutz and shaky landing gets +1s from some judgeS? quick, someone refer them to an ophthalmologist!

IMO the only way for Sasha not get picked for the team is if she has a typical Sasha splat, and the other ladies are absolutely clean and brilliant. If anyone falters, the judges can play with the numbers to hold someone up or down, OR, USFSA will pick Sasha given the prior experience and the lack of from the current skaters.

This maybe her way to train for all those triples in the LP. This is going to be a very entertaining season leading up to the Olympics. How strong could she be.
Yeah, I've listened to that part a few times and have wondered myself what the heck she's going on about. She said the two pounds were on her (concave) stomach? Right, Sasha. She doesn't look healthy at all. I think Tom Hammond said, "That teddy bear is bigger than she is," to which Scott replied, "She's so fit and LEAN!" Whatever.

I think it's going to be difficult, and would take some amazing creativity and bull----ing, for the USFSA to not send the top two ladies tonight. If Sasha isn't in the top 2 they are going to freak (unless she absolutely implodes at a catastrophic level, which even I don't think will happen). Most likely, if she doesn't have a great skate, she'll just be held up enough to get in the top two spots.

It would get really tricky if Rachael wins, Mirai is in second, and Sasha is in a not-so-distant third. If she gets third place you just KNOW they are going to want to send her. But could they find a way to justify screwing over Mirai? They sure as heck shamelessly -- there is no other word -- ignored Sasha's flutz.

Anyway, I predict Sasha will either be scored into the top two spots, whether fairly or not, or else she'll skate so poorly it will make the work easier to not send her. Of course, the wheels have been in motion a LONG time to get Sasha to Vancouver, and there are many people with vested interest in it...

Speaking of Sasha's flutz, how come nobody's talking about Wagner or Flatt not getting edge calls either? Wagner has possibly the most blatant flutz of all the top ladies and didn't have an edge call. Flatt's flip was a lip that just barely started to go flat when she tapped in, and yet no edge call.

I think the U.S. caller just isn't interested in making edge calls.
