From what I am hearing and not hearing during this Olympic cycle, the call for term limits was reserved exclusively for Michelle.

Christiine Brennan said, and I quote from the article.... "For now though, Cohen is on one last joyride through the U.S. nationals, energizing the event in a way no other skater could. The beautiful little ballerina on ice who finished second to Kwan 10 years ago at the 2000 nationals has changed in some ways, but remains as competitive as ever."

"...energizing the event in a way no other skater could...." Well, if Michelle was there, that would not be true--it would be Michelle who did that. Michelle knows that, as well, so she has stayed away to give others their well deserved time in the spotlight. Also, who knows? I think there would be plenty of excitement in the house, and the ticket sales were good even last spring before she announced--at least the good seats were.

The other girls were able to create excitement last year in CLeveland, as was Jeremy Abbot, Brandon Mroz, Caydee and Denny, Charlie and Meryl, etc

Sasah created "hype", not excitement, in my opinion. Hype is far different from excitemen.

Michelle would add excitement just by walking into the building.

I, for one, am not excited that she's there. If she wanted to compete in the Olympics, then she should have been involved in the sport more the past three years on the amateur scene. Instead, she was off making tons of money skating.

People might want to say that about Michelle. However, we all know that she wasn't off skating for the big bucks. She was busy taking care of a serious injury that was likeky caused by years of dedication to this sport; years in which the USFSA did have three Olympic spots.

I actually think this explains her comeback more than anything else said on the matter
There's a good reason for this. For the first time ever at a U.S. nationals, she is the star of this event, and she knows it. No more being Michelle Kwan's understudy, no more sharing the spotlight with Kwan

Michelle is in a global spotlight now, and she's a legend in sports history. As Michelle always said "Life is not a triple lutz." She's the best competitor I've ever witnessed, but even when competing she knew it was temporary, and not her final destination. She's said skating was about the journey, not the destination so many times. (Sasha was quoted as saying that a few days ago, for the first time.) Michelle enjoyed the daily grind of training and everything it entailed, which made her not just the best skater, but a disciplined person and student. She learned so many lessons she applies to her life. Now she teaches these to students world-wide. Not only is Sasha not in Michelle's shadow. She can't get close enough to Michelle's orbit to see the shadow Michelle is casting. We enjoy Michelle's new life. The only part Sasha enjoys is the fact that Michelle is not on the ice, so she's getting the attention. It's a pity. I almost feel sorry for Sasha - almost!

So true. She's reaping what she sowed, and deservedly so. Isn't it time that incident was recounted for the new members who may not know, and the older members who may have forgotten? It should be a first-hand account (hint, hint) not repeated by me or anyone else who heard it second hand.

I saw someone question what the connection was with Angela Nikodikov also, and I think that you can clarify that for the class. Pretty please, and thank you Ms. kwanette.

Wouldn't she have to "change society" first? As near as I can tell, she hasn't even started with that yet....

Several pretty MKFers were there and saw it.I was not. That said, Christine Brennan wrote an article about it...AND an elite lady skater's mom flat out told me that Angela said.."I'm not going to hug her"...And she didn't..

i heard she was sipping drinks on the beach with plushy and they hatched this evil plan together.

The other girls create excitment? Not for me, unless they collectivly discovered how to power jump.

Ugh. Love how Squasha "fought back" to win her 06 silver medal, but Michelle let Nagano "slip from her grasp" and "didn't fight". From a chick who was in the stands in Torino, let me tell you there was no fight. She looked like she was going to throw up from the second her name was called (Irina looked ill too, but that's another story for another day).

I'm all about giving credit where credit is due, and I have no problem saying that Squasha has done more at this Nationals than I thought she would, but double standards in general make me sick. I'm not going to imagine the negative press Michelle would have received had comeback and "stolen" a spot - we got glimpses of that in 2006 - because that's neither here nor there. Sasha's here, Michelle is not. I have no problem with anyone skating to earn a spot. Let the best ladies win. But this article is trash.

I agree with this - like at least in last year's world so we might have got three spots!

    Sasha, Sasha, Sasha....

I wonder what the other ladies skaters think about you walking in and taking over Nationals while they've been hoping and dreaming and working hard for the past four years to make it to the Olympics?

I'll be embarrassed for you and the USFSA if you make the team. But proprity was never your game nor theres.

I dont necessarily blame Sasha for what the media is saying..but I really have to wonder what the reason for what they say is? i mean, sure i understand the business of trying to get your article out there...i understand sales, and trying to generate more publicity for the sport...but i DO NOT and WILL NOT ever understand the negativity towards Michelle.
Sasha would have helped herself had she joined a year earlier...if she'd have been able to contribute to getting us 3 spots. Had she done that (or at least gave it her best shot)..then i would have NO trouble saying if she gets a spot, she deserves it.
I dont know, maybe she woke up as many of us do, and thought "i am not getting any younger, i wont be able to do this again, so i better go while Michelle wont have the spotlight, and it can be more focused on me" who knows.
But i cant help but wonder ....... If she does get a spot, she better go alll out at the olympics and mentally get it together! b/c in the past my friends and i have thought "hmmm, wonder what she's thinking, whats happening, poor girl" if she get an olympic berth...and falls apart, NO SYMPATHY. sorry, dont mean to be mean, but nope! will be quite disgusted! JMHO
