Thread: Sarah Palin's latest gaffe

    Jester Sarah Palin's latest gaffe

In a speech (on Friday i think) in Wisconsin, Palin included a typically
unresearched comment about the design of U.S. dollar coins.
According to several reporters from Politico (not a liberal site), Palin noted that there had been a lot of “change” of late, and mentioned a recent conversation with a friend about how the phrase “In God We Trust” had been moved to the edge of new coins.

“Who calls a shot like that?” she demanded. “Who makes a decision like that?” She added: “It’s a disturbing trend.”
Had she taken any time to make a phone call, or even make a quick Google search, she would have discovered that the decision to put "In God We Trust" on the edges of presidential dollar coins had been made years ago, long before Obama was even a condidate for President. In 2007, via legislation co-sponsored by senators Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Robert Byrd (D-WV), Congress ordered that the words be moved back to the front face of the coins.

Yes, "disturbing" is indeed the word ...

She's a joke. The only disturbing thing is some nut cases actually think she's going to be President in 2012. I hope the NRC runs her instead of a more plausable canidate. That will be a shoe in for the Dems. Her canpaign behahvior was ridiculous enough last time, it would be a freak carnival the next time.

What did she mean--if it keeps moving closer to the edge it'll fall right off or something? Yikes--she's not so smart, maybe?

A small number of the new dollar coins have been inadvertently minted without "In God We Trust" on the edge. They are now extremely rare and high-priced collector's items.

Sarah is going to be on Oprah (next week?) promoting her new book. Maybe I should set the VCR.

Since this is the most recent Palin thread, I'll post this here.

FACT CHECK: Palin's book goes rogue on some facts

Sarah Palin on Bristol Pregnancy: 'I Was Shocked'
In an interview with Barbara Walters, Sarah Palin said that she did not know her daughter Bristol was sexually active before learning of her pregnancy.

"That's why I was shocked," Palin said. "Truthfully, we were devastated."

This has nothing to do with Sarah Palin, but it added to my morning's merriment. Zingers.

If we wished, we could have a very long thread filled with politicians
(both Democratic & Republican) who said one word when they clearly
meant another. I think all of us do that fairly regularly.

That is quite different from what Palin did, when she created (apparently without benefit of a shred of research) a several-sentence political attack on a bogus issue (the "anti-God coin conspiracy").

Big difference between a slip of the tongue and a permanent disengagement of the brain ...

She is a truly unappealing individual and I wish she was not from the USA but sadly I guess she is. Truly and solidly disturbing.

    The plot thickens...

    (no pun intended)

McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction'
Top aides to Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign hit back at Sarah Palin Friday and Saturday, calling the former vice presidential nominee’s soon-to-be-released book “revisionist and self serving” “fiction.”

Campaign manager Steve Schmidt, who emerges as Palin’s nemesis in the advance excerpts that have surfaced from her forthcoming account of the campaign, “Going Rogue,” told POLITICO Saturday that Palin's charges about him were made up.

    "It's all fiction," he said.

With a laugh, the shaved-headed political operative asked: "Why is the bald guy always the villain?"

Schmidt, Palin writes, was “grim-faced” and “cool,” and tried to pin the campaign’s troubles on what he claimed was Palin’s post-partum depression, and even went to so far as to try and dictate her diet.

According to excerpts published on the Huffington Post, Palin “took in his rotund physique and noted that he used nicotine to keep his own cognitive connections humming along.”

“I'm a forty-four year old, healthy, athletic woman raising five kids and governing a large state, I thought as his words faded into a background buzz. Sir, I really don't know you yet. But you've told me how to dress, what to say, who to talk to, a lot of people not to talk to, who my heroes are supposed to be and we're still losing. Now you're going to tell me what to eat?”

    Anti-Abortion Group to Protest Palin
When she was running for governor of Alaska in 2006, Sarah Palin reportedly said that even if her then-14-year-old daughter were raped, she would "choose life" and force her to bear a child. Comments like that that have endeared the fiery Alaskan politician to most pro-life voters, who lionized her for not aborting her Down's Syndrome baby. But Trig isn’t enough to protect Palin from a phalanx of anti-abortion activists who plan to protest her appearance on Thursday to promote her book in the conservative heartland of Indiana. Their reason? They think she's not really pro-life.

For the Denver-based American Right to Life, when it comes to abortion, Palin is as impure as any godless feminist. “[H]er words and actions prove that she is officially pro-choice and stands against the God-given right to life of the unborn,” they write in a new report. ARTL members plan to educate reporters about Palin’s many alleged failings as a true believer, particularly her March nomination of a former Planned Parenthood board member to the Alaska Supreme Court and her refusal to call for a ban on the morning-after pill.
ARTL has given Palin a "Tier 4" designation that lumps her in with other allegedly fake pro-lifers like Romney, George W. Bush, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and Rep. Ron Paul. Tier 4 members "use the pro-life title but deny the personhood and God-given right to life of the unborn." By that measure, Palin has many strikes against her, according to ARTL, including:

    * Her failure to endorse legislation and amendments that would extend equal protection laws to unborn children
    * Her description of the morning after pill as contraception rather than an abortifacient
    * Palin’s statement to the Anchorage Daily News that she opposes the "use of public funds for elective abortions." This means, according to ARTL, that Palin supports taxpayer funding for non-elective abortions.

  15. #15

And, most importantly, her actual personal stance: She said several times that when she received test results that her fetus (now baby Trig) had Down Syndrome, she & Todd prayed over it & decided to continue the pregnancy. Had she been truly anti-abortion to her core, she would not have even THOUGHT about it. Her prayer would have been to ask God's help in caring for a special-needs child, not about whether to continue the pregnancy.

The very fact that she now says "I chose life" means that she is acknowleding her
    PRO-CHOICE position.

If Palin wants to run for POTUS in 2012, I don't think this will help her:

Palin Greets Hundreds, But Not Everyone Leaves Happy
The store handed out 1,000 wristbands for Thursday night's book signing, which wrapped up just before 9 p.m. Those who got to meet a woman they consider an idol walked away happy.

"I said, 'Sarah, thanks for hearing our voices,'" said Nancy Rourke of Greenwood.

"She's just selling what she is: good policy, good values for our country," said Margie Kimes.

Before getting back on her bus just after 9 p.m., Palin thanked the crowd one more time.

"Noblesville, this was so great. You guys are hardcore patriots. Thank you so much for being here," she said.

But not everyone went away happy. Several dozen people who had wristbands were turned away.

"They didn't have this organized well enough," said Sue Hendricks. "It was just not done right."

"I'm very disappointed. I think it was very rude. She could have at least apologized, and she didn't even do that," said Teresa Hedrick.

Many of the unhappy people stood in the rain all day, bought the book from Borders and clutched their wristbands for their opportunity to meet Palin.

"We bought two books from Borders to have our receipt and our wristband to get it signed tonight," said one woman. "My books are going back to Borders tomorrow."

"We gave up our entire workday, stayed in the cold. My kids were crying," said one man. "They went home with my wife. She was out here in the freezing cold all day. I feel like I don't want to support Sarah."

Beck Rules Out 2012 Run With Palin: She'd Always Be 'Yapping' Like We're 'In The Kitchen' (AUDIO)
No, no I'm just saying -- Beck-Palin, I'll consider. But Palin-Beck -- can you imagine, can you imagine what an administration with the two of us would be like? What? Come on! She'd be yapping or something, and I'd say, "I'm sorry, why am I hearing your voice? I'm not in the kitchen."
Damn you, Beck! You made me offended on Sarah Palin's behalf.

Palin Tricked By Comedian Again, Says Canada Should Drop Public Health Care (VIDEO)
At a recent stop on her "Going Rogue" book tour, Sarah Palin told Canadian comedian Mary Walsh that Canada should get rid of its public health care system.

Walsh is the co-creator and star of This Hour Has 22 Minutes -- a nightly news parody show in the same vein as The Daily Show -- and she arrived in character, as the conservative Marg Delahunty, to the Borders where Palin (the "Alaskan Aphrodite") was signing books.
When Palin left the signing, Walsh caught up with her in the parking lot, where Palin suggested that Canada should get rid of its public health care system. "Keep the faith" Palin said, "because common sense conservatism can be plugged in there in Canada too. In fact, Canada needs to reform its health care system and let the private sector take over some of what the government has absorbed."

Raw Story points out that it is unlikely this plan will go over well among Canadians -- even among conservatives.

A recent study found that 90 percent of Canadians support universal, single-payer health care. A poll taken last summer shows 82 percent of Canadians believe their health care system to be better than the US's, despite constant grumbling about waiting times for treatment of non-life-threatening conditions.

    Palin Quits Again
Palin had announced on Twitter that she would be running the 5k race organized by the Benton-Franklin Chapter of the Red Cross.

She didn't finish the race, opting to leave the course early to avoid more crowds at the end. About 40 minutes into the run, word started trickling out to people gathered at the finish line that she was gone.

Now it's being reported that she didn't really leave the race early; she actually didn't start it. Apparently was concerned that there were too many crowds; what did she think would happen when she announced on Twitter that she would be there?

Palin book tour host to foreign press: stay away
She's no longer the chief executive of Alaska, but Sarah Palin should still be called "governor." And in English only, please.

That was the message sent out by officials at the Mall of America this week, who told reporters planning to cover the Minneapolis-area stop on Palin's "Going Rogue" book tour they must address the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate by her former title. The guidelines also banned foreign reporters, allowing "only English speaking press."

Mall officials said the guidelines were a mistake, and apologized Wednesday to Palin for the mix up, which they called "an internal miscommunication" that was "inadvertently distributed."

"That should never have been in any kind of press release," said Tina Andreadis, a publicist for publisher HarperCollins in New York, who added foreign reporters would be welcome at Palin's Mall of America stop.

"That's not the message the governor wants to send out," she said.

Sarah Palin 'ClimateGate': Calls For Obama To Boycott Copenhagen
Sarah Palin couldn't help but be provocative on Thursday.

In addition to her comments that President Obama's citizenship should be questioned, she wrote a statement on her Facebook page that calls for Obama to boycott the climate conference in Copenhagen, specifically due to the recent "ClimateGate" email incident. That controversy, in which hackers broke into the accounts of prominent climate scientists and exposed some of their correspondence, has global warming skeptics in a frenzy. (Check out our piece debunking the rumors: The 6 Most Dubious Claims About "ClimateGate.") Palin throws her support behind global warming denier Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and his investigation into the emails.

In the statement, she claims to have never questioned the reality of climate change but she asks whether man's activities have anything to do with it. She also rails against "snake oil" science, and says, "Policy decisions require real science and real solutions, not junk science and doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood that capitalizes on the public's worry and makes them feel that owning an SUV is a 'sin' against the planet."
Doesn't "junk science and doomsday scare tactics" define her religion?
