Default San Jose to host 2012 U.S. Figure Skating Championships

San Jose also hosted the nationals in 1996 when Michelle Kwan won the first of her nine championships.

With 2010 quickly approaching, 2012 may seem far, far away. However, after hearing that San Jose (Where I currently live) will host the Nationals, I wonder whether I will actually be able to go. I plan on attending University in England, so I may or may not be here. Anyways, I am glad the biggest figure skating competion in the United States is coming back. Incidently, as quoted above, San Jose, California is where Michelle won her first of nine championships.

Oooh... Maybe she'll go for #10 right where it all started?!

That would so perfect, so close and easy for me to get to. **sigh** (Begins dreaming of seeing Michelle in San Jose)

Isn't 2012 when Michelle becomes eligible for the USFS Hall of Fame? If so, then I think San Jose is a good place for her to be inducted.

That will be wonderful, but doesn't she have to be officially retired from competitive skating in order to be inducted into the USFS HOF? When do they start counting before inducing someone to the Hall of Fame?

Wouldn't that be wonderful, but how can she be inducted if she never retired from eligible skating? All she has done is say she's not competing this year for the past 4 years. Is that considered official retirement for HoF purposes?

Ooooh!!! I'm so excited! I missed it in 1996 because I had finals at school. This time I get to go.

SJ is about 4.5 hours away from me, but still worth the drive.

I wonder with the current climate of figure skating, with many skaters officially giving up their eligibility, they would make changes to the HoF selection process. I highly doubt they would ever not induct Michelle because if she never makes anything "official" in terms of her retirement. Just a thought.

I'm definitely going. I went to San Jose in 2007 for the National Gymnastics Championships and had a wonderful time there. It's a fun city. Looking forward to it!

The HP Pavilion is 15-20 minutes away from me. I'm happy to see that my hometown will host 2012 nats... but I also don't know if I'll be in the area during that time

Oohh when I found out SJ was getting nationals, I was excited and stoked. I finally get the chance to see it in my neck of the woods. Just a hop on the Capitol Corridor train and the arena is just a walk away..Fond memories when Michelle was in SJ for the cheesefest 1998 US Pro Classic with her short hair....

Again? It will be 12 years since they were last there, but still that seems close.

In my dream Michelle returns to SJ for her 10th National title in 2012, then goes to Nice to win her 6th World title - breaking all ties. After we spend some casino and shopping time together, she invites me on a cruise and gives me refresher skating lessons, while loaning me her designer wardrobe for appropriate cruise wear. I'm having so much fun. Please don't wake me up.
