I would like to thank all of you so much. As you know, this event had a lot of meaning for me, and I'm so happy to come back home with the gold. Definitely on cloud 9 this weekend :-)

All of your support has meant so much. Thanks for all of the motivating words.

Thought I'd post a quick update on here since I haven't been online too much the past few weeks.

As you're all aware from reading my nationals blog, I've recently moved on from Financial Controller to Chief Financial Officer of my company, and I've been a bit busy getting so many things transitioned with my current staff....haven't been more tired all year than I have these past few weeks.

Aside from work, I really didn't take any break from skating after returning home from SLC. I was back on the ice the Tuesday after I got home, and I simply took it easy by not practicing my program, and taking my time to put work back into the basics, which I love to work on. My coach, however, had me back doing double flips and lutzes, which I decided to not practice from January 1st until Nationals. Needless to say, I can still do both jumps just fine, but I definitely want to work more on the lutz to find ways for creative entries.

Then, maybe.......I will relearn the double axel for sure. Problem is right now I have a pull again in my groin, which came about one day when I was practicing death drops before nationals. I kicked too hard into it, and hurt myself. The "pain" has been gradual, and perhaps after Showcase in a few weeks, I will take a week or two off to recouperate.

I also ordered new skates and blades. I purchased a stiffer pair of boots and am changing blades from Pattern 99 to Gold Seal. I want a cross-hatched toe-pick that's on the Gold Seal blades, as I feel they help get better lift into the lutz and flip. The 99's are great, but I feel the huge toe-pick causes more trouble for me personally. I also think the lack of cross-hatch allows the toe to slip a bit more on the ice.

Anyway, assuming I feel okay to compete in a few short weeks, I'll be doing a showcase competition. It'll be pretty easy as all I'm doing is an axel and double salchow, but this will be my first spotlight event in more than 10 years. Anyone that has skated spotlight knows it's nearly the same as skating around blind

This is the song I'm skating to, and if I master the choreography correctly, I think it'll look great. Perhaps I can make it a signature exhibition program for me for the rest of this year:

    Thanks for the update Scootie.
I love the song, can't go wrong with The Beach Boys.
Sorry about your injury and hope it clears up soon.
Looking forward to your next competition!

    Haven't posted in a while...

I skated last weekend at the 2011 Los Angeles Figure Skating Club (LAFSC) Showcase competition in the Adult Masters Dramatic category. I won that phase of the competition, and reskated the next day for the "big" trophy, which was for all of the adult skaters that won their events the day prior. I placed 2nd in that event.

I look pretty gross in the video, but at least you can see the shirt I designed and had made. It's an eggplant color, and I had hundreds of very small crystals put on the front and back in order to really pick up the light.

The hip injury is SLOW healing, so I cannot practice spins, as is evidenced when you see my spins in this video. I usually have no problem, but in both cases I messed up a bit...BLAH.

Anyway, enjoy...one video is from the ice-level. The other is from the audience

Ice-level video where I look gross haha (may load slower due to high quality):

I haven't really posted a practice clip in a while. I've been injured with a hip flexor injury. I strained it while doing a death drop prior to Nationals, and never really took care of it. The pain and aches got worse and worse over time, and I finally decided to stay away from jumping and spinning for a bit.

I'm now skating in my new boots and blades, which are SP-Teri KT-3 boots and Gold Seal blades, so it has been a good time to focus on all the basics. I've been stretching a lot, and also doing a lot of on-ice stretches, like spirals. I've also been working a lot on MITF and will eventually finish off my Junior and Senior tests.

I've been jumping just a little bit, but today was finally the day I actually did all my jumps up to through the double flip. I think you can see my extra stretch in my jump landings now. Hopefully the hip heals soon!!!

Here's a quick video update. Enjoy!!

I competed today at the Los Angeles FSC Open competition at my home rink, Pickwick Ice Center, in Burbank, CA. I skated my artistic number from Showcase, and this will probably be the last time I skate it. There were only two of us in the event, and my program took 1st place. I limited my jumps to singles, just like it was for the Showcase event.

I've also lost some weight so I think I probably look much leaner since the June competition. All it took was for me to see the video and I decided to lose about 5 to 10 pounds. Probably closer to 10, and glad it's off.

My new skates finally feel normal, and now that this event is over, it's time to focus my attention on next season.

Here's a direct link to the video, and an embedded version below:

Thanks Michael, I love your artistic program and the shirt looks great too. The weight loss is very noticeable, you are looking very svelte indeed.

Congrats to you on your very successful season, you should be proud of
    yourself.

Thanks so much. Everyone seems to tell me about how fit I look these days. I feel much better and am still rehabbing my hip. It'll hopefully get there soon.

PS - I get so many offers for that shirt. LOL, I love it, and would never sell it

Anyway, here's a very quick video of the only jump anyone filmed today...a double loop.

It might have been just one jump, but it was a beautiful one! I'm not comfortable with the loop, I prefer the salchow.

Anyway, keep up the great work!!

Thanks!! I like both edge jumps, and the loop is probably my favorite of the two you mentioned.

Quick update - I've been doing more consistent physical therapy and intend to have my hip injury fully healed. My sports doc has been stretching and massaging the hip area, and there's one strech in particular that actually loosens it up pretty well. I stretch like crazy, but this one minor tweak he did really releases the pressure for me. He thinks since I skated on the strained flexor for so long that it developed scar tissue, so that's what they are massaging out....sometimes painful, but a few days later I can feel the difference. Small steps that hopefully result in full movement again! yay! I want to avoid surgery at all costs.

Anyway, here's a video from today's practice. I noticed my right blade was a bit loose on the back and it was difficult to adjust the mounting, so NO toe jumps in this video

I really need to do new stuff since I tend to film the same things just to keep up on my progress ha.

I skated another evening session with several skating friends, which is always nice to just relax and skate together. Here are a few jumps, spins, in addition to a few combinations.

My hip is feeling better, but I still need to get an x-ray. I think the issue lies in my joint, and while I stretch and everything feels fine, I should not have to do it each morning I wake up. Perhaps after more time passes, the tissues will heal more and things will go back to normal. Without stretching, though, I have less range of flexibility on my left side, and it's very different from my right side, which has a very wide range of motion.

I also bought a tennis ball, which really helps in loosening up the hip. I simply lie down on the ball and allow it to roll onto more tender areas. I think this will aid in breaking up any of the scar tissue my physical therapist thinks I have (that needs to be loosened up to heal back into muscle/regular tissue).

Here's the video from last night.

Michael! I just saw this press release and thought of you: http://www.lifeskate.com/skate/2011/...lity-show.html There's apparently filming going on for a reality show about adult competitive figure skaters in LA & NYC. Given your win and exposure in Skating Magazine, I'd say you fit the bill!

Thanks so much! I haven't been on here in a month due to tons of travel for work. I emailed the people about the show

I am skating in two holiday shows this week, and self-choreographed a program to Perry Como's "Christmas Eve"

Here's a photo of me skating an artistic event two weeks ago....I should upload a new video.

Here are some artistic shots taken of me a few months ago:

I haven't updated with a video in a long while. I am now focusing my attention on Adult Sectionals and Nationals, which are just a few months from now.

I made a quickie video with my training buddies today. It's not the best, by any stretch of the imagination, but I figured I'd post. I skated the night prior in a holiday show so my body didn't get much rest, but that's not a good excuse If I have a video link of the holiday show, I'll post......although I did mess up on an AXEL....easiest jump for me and I popped lol.

    Anyway, here's the practice vid:

Practice is always good because of its very nature! Is that your coach doing the camera work? I could never have a camera beside my coach... she's too loud! Do you normally have issues with the combos with the double loop? Your spins are amazing. They flow well. Your positioning is improving too!

It was good to practice. My body was beat from the night prior due to the holiday show, but I felt the need to just push through. My alarm went off at 4:30am and I once again asked myself "why can't I do another sport that I can do during the day???????????" lol

That isn't my coach in the video...it's my friend that skates with me, but she *does* coach on the side

I normally don't have too too many issues with double loops or combos. I usually always land several of each during each practice, but this particular day I was just not feeling it. I felt so sluggish.

    Default Holiday Show

So.....I'm on the edge of embarrassment to even post this, but I need to in order to prevent these types of mistakes from happening again

Here's a video of a holiday programthat I created/self-choreographed just a few days prior to the event, but I manage to not only pop the world's easiest jump for me (an axel), but I also flub my final spin, and end going toward the wall. Not really good, but I feel like sharing anyway. I can't be perfect all the time, and this will only make me better.

I missed my axel the other day, at the same rink, at the artistic ISI event, so at this exhibition event I was a total head case going into the jump. I kept saying "don't screw it up this time, don't screw it up, jump correctly into it.....annnnnnnd I pop it!" lol

I did a special edit of the Perry Como song Christmas Eve where I layered two sections of music over each other to create a very amplified and nice sound in the second half.

Enjoy........aside from the flubs I made

I have hired an extra coach who will be working with me a few times per week on technical stuff. I really want to challenge myself despite my "advanced" skating age, and I also really want to win another Adult National Championship, so all systems ready for me

I think after I hurt my hip and hip flexor, it was a very slow healing process, and in the process I lost my confidence in my skating. I really need someone to get me to where I used to be, and just skating well......no popping, no skating slow, etc.

I'll keep everyone updated here as I make progress with my new practice set-up.

I had a really good session yesterday, and am just working on making my jumps larger (height and distance).

    Here's an axel/double loop combination:

My first session with the new coach went well. She is challenging me to skate more wall-to-wall, and execute all jumps in the center of the ice, which will result in faster take-offs and less reason for me to wrap around the corner before jumping. I still need work on the loop, but that'll come in time.

    Here's another video....from this morning

My training mate and I were video taping several elements this morning. Nothing special, but I figured I'd post.

I did a nearly perfect run-through of my program today.....the stamina is getting there!! My new coach is getting results outta me, and I can feel my technique getting better!

I competed this weekend in the Pacific Coast Adult Sectionals and ended up winning my event! I'm on cloud 9 for being able to pull it together to win. Last February I had a mini meltdown and popped every jump in my program (for a warm-up competition), so this was a sweet victory. I'm not sure I'm still 100% happy with how I skated though, as my program lacked the artistry I wanted, but I was so focused on the technical stuff!

Here is a photo with the gold, and two action shots from my program....one is a great view of my cannonball spin!

This is a quick snippet of what my program looks like:

I've been sooooooo busy these days with work trips to the east coast. Anyway, I'm working on my new artistic program for the summer. I'm skating to Josh Groban's "February Song," and here's a look at the program for now. I need to add lots more stuff, but this is merely a skeleton to start fleshing out.

Thanks again everyone for your support too!!
