Hey everyone! Welcome to the new MKF!!

There are so many new and fun features of this board. PLEASE read through the FAQ and through all these posts to see everything that a member can do here. If you still have questions, please ask them in this thread once the board opens for registrations. We will update this post with the answers to all your questions as well as add in member contributions, so they will be easy to find for everyone.

    1. How and where do I register?
    2. There are a few things that don't look right, or I notice some changes everyday, why?
    3. How do I ignore a user?
    4. How do I change my avatar/signature/user title?
    5. What do all those options under "User CP --> Edit Options" do or mean?
    6. What exactly is the calendar and what is it used for?
    7. Jump to Last Post Unread
    8. Complaints about speed of the board?
    9. Why does the board say it has so many members when mkf is closed?
    10. new fun features of vbulletin!
    11. Why is my new total post count so low?
    12. How can I stop getting logged out of the board?

Most importantly, search, try out new options, new images, new settings, just look around the board to see what vbulletin offers their users. Nothing like pressing foreign buttons like a 3 year old child AND if you find anything nifty that has not yet been posted in this informative post, please reply to this thread and we will update it with your contribution.

Discussion on the forum, this particular post, any vbulletin/forum interface related questions can be found here.

Default 1. How and where do I register?

    i) On registering:

Point 1: You will have to register on the new board, new or old screenname, regardless.
Point 2: If you wish to associate your old posts with your vbulletin screenname regardless of whether or not it is the same as your ezboard screenname, simply reply to this thread with the following information:
    a) your vbulletin screenname (please specify by saying vbulletin: [vb_name]
    b) your ezboard screenname (please specify by saying ezboard: [ez_name]
Heather or Grace will update the requests when they can get to them
Point 3: If you wish to perform Point 2 AND have your join date from ezboard ported over, post the information we request in Point 2, AND your join date from ezboard. We trust everyone will be honest in this information. To look up your join date, you just simply need to look up your profile at ezboard. Specify the year, the month and the date. Requests should belong in the same thread above, found here: http://mkforum.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6987

(haha, for people who actually remember what was here earlier before I updated this, you can ignore all of that now. After running the script, we've discovered differently.)

I IMPLORE those who do not wish their old screennames to be used by others to NOT sign up their old screennames with no intention of using them at all. I instead suggest you post something like "was [ old sn ] on ezboard" in your signature, at least for a while. This helps avoid any unused accounts which simply clutters up the databases. If I discover that people signed up their old screenname AND a screenname without ever using their old screenname, I WILL DELETE the old screenname.

Default 2. There are a few things that don't look right, notice some changes everyday, why?

We wanted to move asap, so there are things that are still not done, and we will most likely be in a constant state of small changes here and there in the months to come as we all learn the ropes, find out we want to change a few options, or add text or something to the forum. Due to the move, there is some reorganization we can do.

Default 3. How do I ignore a user?

If you wish to ignore a user, you can click on their user profile from a post they have posted, and you should see a link to "Add [ Username ] To Your Ignore List" on the main user control panel. Click on the link and then click on "submit" on the following page to confirm your wish to add the user to your ignore list.

Default 4. How do I change my avatar/signature/user title?

After you have registered, you can set your avatar, signature, and user title by going to your "User CP" at the very top.
    • how do I choose an avatar?
To use one of the pre-defined avatars, click on "User CP", then "Edit Avatar." Then click on the drop down menu to chose which graphic designer's avatar you want to use. Then select your avatar, and click "save changes."
    • how do I upload my own customized avatar?
Click on "User CP", then "Edit Avatar." Scroll down to "Custom Avatar" and select "Custom Avatar." You can either upload an avatar that's already online, or one that's on your computer. To upload one that is already online, under "Enter Avatar URL", enter the URL of the image. To upload one that is on your computer, under "Upload an Avatar From Your Computer", click "Browse", find the image on your computer, and click ok. Then click "Save Changes."

Avatars cannot be larger than 30k, and the dimensions cannot be more than 100x100.
    • how do I add or modify my signature?
Click on "User CP", then "Edit Signature." You signature is limited to 300 characters. Please read the signature rules in the FAQ before working on your signature. You can click "Preview Signature" to test the signature before posting. Once you are satisfied with how it looks, click "Save Signature."
    • how do I change my usertitle?
Click on "User CP", then "Edit Profile." Scroll down to "Custom User Title." Type in your your title. Then scroll down and hit "Save Changes."

Your custom title cannot be longer than 50 characters.

If you don't change your user title, the default is "Hi, I'm new! :-)" for your first 15 posts on the forum. After that, your title will just say "~Member~". Your custom title can be anything you wish, and you can change your custom title as often as you like.
All the above information can also be found under our FAQ.

Default 6. What exactly is the calendar and what is it used for?

There are 2 Calendars in use at MKF: The "Main Calendar" and "MKFers Birthdays."

To see the Calendars, click on "Calendar" at the top of the page. You will see the "Main Calendar", which will show the current month. Only the admins & mods can add entries to the Calendar.

The Main Calendar will include all events that Michelle will appear in, as well as the broadcast information for those events. This includes competitions, shows, COI, talk show appearances, award shows, etc. If there is an event that you feel should be posted on the Calendar, please email/PM Heather.

To see a specific month, scroll down to "Jump to month", select the Month & Year from the drop down menu, and click "Go." If you would like to see the month before or after the current month, you can just click on the month at the top of the small monthly calendars in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

To see more information on an event that is on the Calendar, just click on the event. All available information about the event will be posted in the entry.

All calendar events will appear on the main page of the forum 3 days prior to the event. From there, you can click on the event, and be brought to the event's entry in the Calendar, to see more information. With this feature, you should never miss an event or TV broadcast with Michelle!

The second Calendar used at MKF is "MKFers Birthdays." This calendar lists all MKFers Birthdays (obviously!) To see this Calendar, scroll down past the bottom of the main calendar. Chose "MKFers Birthdays" from the Calendar drop down menu, and click "Go." Then, you can pick a month, and see who's birthday is coming up!

When it is a MKFer's birthday, it will show up on the main board on that day! To make sure your birthday is included, be sure to list your date of birth in your profile (Click on "User CP", then "Edit Profile." Scroll down to "Date of Birth." Input the information, then scroll down and hit "Save Changes.") You do not have to list the year you were born.

Default 7. Jump to Last Post Unread

Users can conveniently jump to their last post unread in a thread by clicking on the little icon next to the author's name. For example, there are now 32 new posts added to the previous 12 posts already there since the user last visited. It will jump to the 13th post when you click on that icon.

Threads don't need to be "marked as read" or "mark all as read" like it used to. It's all timer and cookie based meaning that after around 15 minutes of user activity, all old posts will be marked as read. And everytime you log back in, only posts that are new since one's last visit will turn up as bold.

Default 8. Complaints about speed of the board?

If you believe the board is running too slow, please let one of us know. We are concerned about how much normal traffic we bring in on a daily basis and care about whether or not members will find the board too slow. We want to use this feedback to figure out whether or not we should upgrade, especially during Nationals and the Olympics.

Default 9. Why does the board say it has so many members when the board is closed?

Most of the users you see are not in the member list because we have banned all the usernames that were banned on ezboard, on our vbulletin board as well. This includes IP addresses, e-mail addresses, and screennames. As for the other ones, a handful of people asked us to sign them up ahead of time, but no one is allowed to post until Saturday.

Default 11. Why is my new total post count so low?

Please note that your post count from ezboard will be different than what ends up here. This is due to vbulletin's accuracy, some posts fall off after a while on ezboard, and the hacking that happened on ezboard. Also, if you are a global user at ezboard, your post total on ezboard includes not only your posts at MKF, but your posts from boards as well. Your post count here will be from the threads that we actually imported.

Default 12. How can I stop getting logged out of the board?

Some members have had problems staying logged in, even when they go to post. Try checking the "Remember Me" option when you sign in. This has helped other MKFers who had this problem.
