Michelle is in first place now!! However, it seems that it wasn't her best performance (maybe one fall). As you can see, she had tech score as low as 5.5 and presentation score as low as 5.6. Irina is next!!

Someone on FSW said it was a 5-2 split for Irina. MK's marks suggest that it was either not clean and/or non 3/3

On a somewhat brighter note, it seems that Hughes and Nikodinov must have both skated pretty well.

Irina's marks were:

soooooclose. MK won on artistry but not in tech. I wonder if she fell and/or didn't do her 3/3.

This just proves that if Michelle lands her technical elements she can clearly fend off her competitors. She won in the judges marks for artistic merit. She's definitely got the ability, she's jsut got to get tough out there!! By the way, it really helps to watch Cherie's best of MK tape while waiting for the internet results. I was watching all night, and feeling all aglow over the past and current successes that Michelle has enjoyed. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh........She will forever be a champion.

Good luck in the Short Program Michelle!!!

Default It was certainly close!

I don't remember (well I do) the last time Michelle had such a close competition. It is a delight to see Irina skating so well. There is always the possibility that Michelle made an error; however, also keep in mind that the judges knew Irina was skating directly after Michelle. It was definitely close, with the split votes. If Michelle is the Michelle Kwan we know, she will not back down--"it isn't over until it's over", "and even when it's over, it's not really". So, let's look forward to seeing Michelle, Irina, Maria, Sarah, and the rest of the ladies skate their best in the short program on Friday. It will be very interesting to see who the judges will vote for if both Michelle and Irina are clean but with Michelle's new triple flip as her solo jump. Good luck in the draw Michelle!

Default GO MK!

I don't know. I think they probably did pretty well, but I bet no 3/3's from MK or IS, and I bet MK fell...on the loop. Complete guess. This is great for the US, but I'm so focused on Michelle, I almost don't care. (I'm surprised at that, BTW.) She can do it, though, in the sp and lp...GO MK !

Goodbye everyone! No just kidding. Anyway, I'm not too disappointed because it's only the qualifying round. Anyway, they are going to add 2 more judges for the next two rounds. I wish good luck to Michelle in the draw. And this is the last time I'm going to look at ladies spoilers. Good luck, Michelle! It was so close between you and Irina! I KNOW that if you land your jumps, you can and probably will win!! Go Michelle!

It looks like Michelle must have skated pretty well though. This could be one of those cases where skate order had something to do with it, but I guess we'll have to wait for a report or an article to find out. This is an AWESOME showing for the US!!! GO MICHELLE, SARAH, and ANGELA in the SP!!!!

Thank goodness! When I went to check spoilers I was just hoping that MK would be at least in 2nd place! This is still good I think right? What does she have to do to end up in first place in the end? Can she say be 2nd in the SP but win the LP (I know winning the LP is hugely important)
I had a dream last night that she was in second place after the qualifier, behind Irina. I'm happy for Sarah as well!

I personally feel great about where Michelle is in the standings. She seems to have skated well enough to gain the confidence she needs, and to be in 2nd is probably more motivating for MK. She is the ultimate fighter!!! I believe she is where she needs to be. IS is feeling the pressure now - esp. w/ MK beating her artistically. GO MICHELLE. WE BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I'm relieved that she's in the top 2, that's all she needs at this point. She can pull out the stops later.

Default I would've liked to seen: 1. Kwan USA, but......

second place is not bad at all. I still have a good feeling about Kwan's chances. I had a dream last night about Kwan skating to the Red Violin and from what I remembered, she seemed happy. I woke before the results were announced. Who knows, maybe it's a good sign.
I believe Michelle is in a good position now. More than likely, she will come from behind and surprise everyone. All the pressure is on the Russian women. I like Irina but I'm focus on Michelle doing well.
GO FOR THE GOLD MK!
