I didn't think it was rude at all. Looking at her face, it's obvious she admires Michelle greatly. I think it shows how warm and friendly Michelle is. She's a megastar, but she doesn't give off this uninviting vibe. One of the reasons I think Michelle is so successful is that she emits a warm glow both on and off the ice! Caroline is really lucky.

When exactly did this air? I didn't catch it during the broadcast as I was flipping back and forth with UCLA basketball.. was it during the last group's warmup?

On the one freakin' night that I don't get to watch nationals Michelle is on there, if only briefly. Thank you soooo much for posting that link MKinNYC! I didn't think it too rude for her to say she isn't very intimidated by Michelle in front of Michelle but I'm sure it would be a different story if CZ were skating against her. lol..

Now that I have watched it on youtube you are correct. I still thought that was too cute. Not the fall, just the fact of Caroline trying to keep up with Michelle. Caroline has the very best mentor she could ever want and hope for.

And some of the comments like Michelle "has moved on" and th Kwan era is over were not comforting or welcome.

After Bob Costas made that comment about the Michelle Kwan era being over, I almost turned the channel. Glad I didn't.

And note to Bob ... it isn't over until MK says it's over.
I am beginning to wonder if when NBC talked to Michelle about commentating that she indicated to them that she had no plans to compete again thus giving them the freedom to say she had moved on and her era was over. Just because she has made no public announcement yet doesn't necessarily mean she hasn't already made THE DECISION.

Somehow, I really doubt that ... not Michelle's style IMO.

    I agree with you MKsmiral

My favorite part of the clip was at the end when Michelle said "you have a job to do, your on a mission." I don't think Michelle's mission is over just yet.

After watching it again, I also got this feeling, not from Michelle or anything said but just within myself that Michelle is bringing us someone who she sees we could turn our attention to and watch for years to continue enjoying Figure Skating when Michelle does decide to hang up the skates. Does that make sense?

Thanks SO much for the youtube link!! For some reason, this wasn't shown during the coverage of the Ladies Freeskate last night here in MN. Was it on earlier in the afternoon yesterday??

I agree that it does seem like MK is giving us a new kind of gift, a new skating prodigy in Caroline Zhang, who we can also enjoy watching for years to come (knock on wood). It is a different kind of legacy that she can leave, not only in her own magical skating, but nurturing and instilling it into another young skater. Caroline Zhang is very lucky, and I think she knows it!

I felt exactly the same way.

My favourite part was when Michelle said skate from the heart and then she went "Right..." and Caroline's nod of assent was just so priceless. Adorable. You can tell the girl is completely in awe of Michelle...even when she said she wasn't that intimidated skating with MK, she had to add "I think"...

CZ needs to acquire Michelle's jump technique. Once she can do that, there's no telling how far she can go. I'm glad she didn't win Nationals. The pressure would eat her alive. She was already feeling enough of it even before Nationals.

I forgot about it (again, second year in a row), but so glad to hear they showed Michelle!

I thought I was half joking when I said I could watch Michelle just do cross-overs all day long. Now I know I wasn't joking at all. Seriously. Watching the ladies last night made me realize just how special Michelle is. Seeing that brief segment with Michelle makes me realize how much I miss her!! Caroline is a doll, and I'm so glad that Michelle is finding joy on the ice again. She seems to be feeling well and there is no denying her radiance.

Thanks for the link as well.

IMO, Michelle won't make an announcement that she is formally retiring from competitive skating until she decides what she wants to do instead -- any announcement won't be a negative ("I'm retiring"), but a positive ("I'm going to law school/running for ISU president/etc, ...")

For those of you who are more skating savvy, why do you think they might have been doing crossovers together? Is that a standard warm-up? Or might they have been working on speed?

    Just curious.

MKsmiral - Bob is just jealous because the "Era of Costas" never was....

I also loved Evan's MKM last night ... even though she wasn't at Nationals, she was still there in heart & spirit.

That reminds me of a report someone posted during the 2006 COI tour; most of the other skaters were already on the bus, however, MK was still signing autographs; but Evan stood and waited for her to finish and helped her w/ her bags ... since we all know what MK was going through during that tour, it was really sweet of him to watch out for her.

I have already posted in this thread, but can I just say how special this moment was to me, to see her on the ice?

I also liked hearing her give advice to Evan, although if I was going to pick a men's competitor for her to support, it would have been Johnny It always makes my day to hear that she is keeping involved with skating, and especially with Caroline - it is adorable how Caroline acts with Michelle, and how awesome Michelle is with Caroline!
