Thread: Skating is hard!!!!!!!!!!!

    Default Skating is hard!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I why all the skaters fall down so much, skating is HARD!
I went ice skating for the first time in ages today and I forgot how difficult it is. Man, I used to take lessons so and was pretty good at it, no jumps but I do simple spins and stuff, I thought it would be like riding a bike. Boy was I wrong! It didn't help that I learned in figure skates and they only rent out hockey skates, I was like WHERE'S MY TOE PICK! Anywho I actually did okay once I got comfortable out there I just could really stop and avoiding other people was interesting. At the end I got cocky though and I thought I'd pose for my friends camera as I was gliding along. I felt sooooooo graceful until I fell splat. Some people skated over to me to make sure I was ok but I got up easily. I then tried to take a big dramatic bow and fell over again.

Well I had fun anyway and I hope I can do it again this winter. Maybe even with figure skates.

I thought it would be fun if people all shared their stories of the first time they went skating or a moment on the ice they are proud of or embarrased of. So let's share stories!

I'm willing to bet it was the Hockey skates. I had basic lessons once when I was a girl, so while I'm not good at all, I can manage to skate without falling... But when years later I got hockey skates, I couldn't really skate at all.

However, years after that, my friends and I got skates and went skating at a small little rink. Even though I hadn't been on the ice is in probably 8 years, it only took me a few minutes before I was racing down that rink... Although (I don't do spins or anything)...This time though I had figure skates. So I think it is like riding a bike.

Um, I've mentioned this before, but the first and last time I ever went ice skating was when I was twelve. My friend was experienced and kept skating ahead, and I kept wobbling along until I fell forward, and broke my wrist. I always wanted to try again, but my mom wouldn't let me. One of my dreams is to take lessons, but they are SO expensive. So yes, the top skaters make it look so easy, but it's actually really hard!

Growing up in the Northeast my friends and I did a lot of skating on ponds, lakes etc. not professionally but just for fun (of course this was before global warming and everything froze hard during the winter) I was pretty good at it. We would stage races and contests and I was always in the mix and even won a few times. As I got older things change and I did not skate for many years. A few years ago my niece was invited to a skating party and my sister nominated me to take her and I agreed. Well let me tell you when I put those skates on and tried to skate it was like I never skated before. I fell so many times it was hilarious. I was the hit of the party because I could barely stand up. That was the last time I skated. So yes figure skating is hard and for me it was not like riding a bike. Nowdays I get my figure skating fix by watching youtube and chatting online. lol

I've only gone skating a handful of times but my first experience was my worst. I went to a rink that was PACKED. I was totally inexperienced & petrified that if I fell the mob of people behind me would skate over my hand. Needless to say I was a bundle of nerves & didn't have any fun. I'd like to go back when it's less crowded!

I remember going back onto the ice about 2 years after I stopped...I had previously skated for about 10 years and had made it to my Junior level testing (I only did a few triples).

I thought it would be easy, but yeah, the ice felt kinda funny for a few minutes. I luckily still remembered many of the Moves-In-The-Field manuevers from the Junior & Senior test, and I also tried a few figures (loops). I eventually got my feet under me again...felt great.

I was being gutsy that day...LOL...I wanted to at least get in a few double jumps. I only made it up to doing a double loop, but I guess I should feel good for managing to do it despite not skating for 2 years. I guess I definitely kept the muscle memory

I think I'd be scared to try a double axel today...who knows how I'd land after not doing them for several years!! eek!

I used to skate with my grandfather when I was little but then didn't go for many years. The last couple of Holiday's I've gone on one of the small Holiday rinks and it was a blast. I wish I would just step up and buy some skates but I haven't been able to make that commitment. The last time I went I got a little cocky and crashed completely ripping my jeans. How embarrassing but if you aren't falling you aren't learning, at least that's what I've heard...

During my younger days in the Northeast, winter was undoubtedly the best days of our lives. We could ice skate for mad fun and I must say I was extremely good at it.We would stage races and contests and I was always in the mix and even won a few times. That was all thanks to my late grandfather who had not only taught me how to ice skate but also let me know that skates were the most important equipment for the game. In relation to that http://bestskatereviews.com/review-2...hockey-skates/ never disappoints. As I got older, I reduced skate frequency.Well, I beg to disagree that skating is hard.As long as one has the passion, right mind set and most importantly, best skates, then it's just a matter of hours before one becomes a veteran. My opinion though.
