Wow! Loving that hair cut!!! I loved, loved, loved her hair long like it was last year, and she can pull off the short-do, as well!

    Hi, Everybody—

I caught the San Jose show yesterday and was finally able to get my review up.

I must say that EVERYONE skated nearly flawlessly. There were no falls, very few bobbles, maybe one or 2 triples that were doubled. It was one the best I have ever seen the ENTIRE cast skate all at one time.

Timmy skated better than I have ever seen him skate at COI.

Jenny--I loved her attitude. She is getting this "smile, and make every move reach to the tips of your fingers thing that Frank is so great at teaching."

    Johnny was wonderful.

Sasha also skated with attitude and flair. I believe she landed 2 triples and her spins/charlottes were great.

Surya was very energetic. I love her short hair and have come to believe she is a very under-appreciated skater.

    Elvis was fun, fun, fun.

Dan Hollander was a hoot to boot!

I really liked the Acrobats new program.. Nobody got hit the face with the basketball. I guess they learned.

Victor was great. I always loved “Mack the Knife”. Also, I have a special place inside my heart from him as he was been very nice to be both times I got to meet him. Same goes for Evgeny who wasn’t there---I actually missed him. :o

Rudy Galindo brought the house down. No surprises there because San Jose is his home town. I would say he got the second largest reception next to Michelle.

All of the pairs, Tatiana & Maxime, Pang & Tong, Katie & Garrett, were wonderful.

Amber Corwin was totally enjoyable. She skated her program with tons of attitude and I thought her program suited her skating very well.

Tanith and Ben skated their Gypsy number. They were great too!

Marina & Gwendal were absolutely fabulous! My friend who attended with me was amazed and laughed each time Marina lifted Gwendal. It was the first ice show my buddy had attended since she was a kid.

Irina was impressive and skated with lots of energy. Michelle was applauding Irina before taking the ice herself during the opening. (We were sitting not too far from where the skaters came out of the tunnel so I got to see Michelle watching and applauding Irina before Michelle herself stepped onto the ice."

It was a very typical San Jose matinee audience in that they applaud a lot and cheer loudly but rarely get out of their seats to give Standing Ovations. However, the show was so great, that a few of us stood up at the finale and the rest of the audience followed our lead. The skaters performed at the very highest of their ability and they deserved nothing less than a huge standing ovation. They got one.

I missed an opportunity to dive for somebody's hat. I didn't see who threw it. It landed right in the hands of a guy sitting in front of me as I was participating in the standing ovation. I made a minor attempt to grab it, but it was just enough out of my reach that I would have fallen on top of guy who caught it. It was too bad because the gentleman wasn't even standing up. IMHO, he did not deserve to get a hat. Sometimes, life isn't fair. :b

But in the grand scheme of things, it didn't really matter. It was wonderful show. Michelle, as always, is Chicken Soup for my soul.

    Speaking of Michelle….

First things first: Michelle wore the black dress with the red rose.

    Next…..

What can I possibly write about Michelle that hasn't already been written?

    Our seats were great: 5 rows from the ice, near the corner, next to the tunnel where the skaters came out. Michelle’s program had some of the highest difficulty in terms of technical content. And for the first time ever, Michelle did all of my favorite things practically right in front of me. Twice this year, I have had the privilege to see that unequalled split-falling-leaf up close and personal. {{{ Sigh.... }}}

Michelle’s 3-2-2 took me by surprise. It was at our end of the ice and it was done with the typical Kwan thoroughness and elegance.

Michelle nailed all of her jumps.

    The COE was to die for, as she glided effortlessly straight towards us with a smile as brilliant as the sun itself. It was like, "Hello, Gorgeous!" {{{ Sigh.... }}}

If I could take all of my favorite things in life, a walk along the ocean, a hike in the woods, standing at the top of Glacier Point in Yosemite or at the edge of the Grand Canyon, listening to Rachmaninov, drying my tears at the end of a happy or sad movie, hugging my dogs....

If I could bundle up all of the above and wrap them in pretty paper with ribbons and bows, then I might be close to describing how much it means to me to be able to watch this phenomenal young woman, Michelle Kwan, grace the ice with her spectacular presence.

In addition to a fabulous skate of “This Used To Be My Playground” there was the triple and awesome spin at the beginning of the show. And the part I was waiting for all day: the 4 brilliant double axels during the finale. Michelle nailed each and every one of them.

But enough about the fabulous jumps. It never is all about jumps for Michelle.

I am thrilled to know that Michelle choreographed this program herself. I was completely moved by her performance. You can tell that this song has a deeply emotional and poignant meaning for Michelle, from the top of her toepicks to the very ends her finger tips.

    It was a goosebump-rendering performance.

There is only one Michelle Kwan and once again, she did not disappoint. At the end of her program, tears welled up in my eyes as Michelle stood center ice, waving, blowing kisses, and acknowledging and taking in all the love that poured out to her from the audience. And, it seemed to me as if Michelle was totally savoring the moment. She gave her heart to us and we all gave ours back to her, willingly and unconditionally.

Michelle Kwan: She doesn't steal your heart away. There's just something about her that makes you want to give it to her.

Just got back. We has a blast joining everyone for lunch. I won't repeat what others have said about the skating. There was one major fall (O/L); a Surya move that I can't tell if it was a mistake or not; and a few bobbles -- but otherwsie, everyone was clean. I never realized how big P & T's throws really are. I found it interesting that the Ukrainian acrobats got what I thought was the third largest round of applause -- pretty impressive when you consider the two biggest applause getters were Sasha (in second) and Michelle.

I was a little disappointed that Evan Lysacek wasn't there. I thought he was scheduled for this show. Does anyone know what happened to him?

Bless her heart. Michelle respects Irina as a phenomenal athlete and a trooper who makes the most of what she does best despite her health problems.

Just downloaded the last of my pictures from Anaheim. I took over 500 pictures!!!! Not as much as someone else who was there (and who shall be nameless. lol.). Anyways, I'll sift through them and post the best of the best when I can.

    Stay tuned......

I just got home from the Anaheim show.

For me the highlight was talking to Angela at intermision and seeing for myself that she was okay. She actually spotted me before I spotted her and came over to give me a hug and then we chatted for a few minutes.

As luck would have it I was sitting in front of Amber's family, so I actually had an Amber cheering section. I figured I'd be the only one cheering for her.

This is the first year I have gone to COI after taking a few years off, because I felt the show was too gimicy and not enough skating. The only reason I really even bothered to go this year was because Amber was added to the cast. This year they had A LOT of top skaters and the skaters did real programs. Some did exhibition numebrs that had good content and few did competitive type programs. I was really imrpessed with the show and pleased to see some real skating. I think the cleaning out of some of the other cast members and adding some new ones really helped to improve the show. If they have a similiar cast again next year I'd consider going back to see it again.

I didn't take any pictures during the show, but I did take some at the meet and greet thing. I'll try to post them tomorrow.

    Default Anaheim COI

Since everyone's read what the skaters' programs are I won't go into details of their performance. Instead I'll talk about the aftermath.

So after the show I found the gang with the help from IzzyS. At first I didn't know what to do. There were people with blue badge and people with red badge. Later on I found out that the blue badge allows you in the tunnel where the skaters come out to sign, while the red badge allows you in the basement where the skaters gather up before they enter the tunnel.

Anyhow, we were just walking around the concourse level, hoping to bump into someone who is willing to give up their badges - to no avail. Therefore we went back to the starting point, when suddenly Corbon handed me his camera to shoot a photo for him. To my surprise, he was standing next to Angela! I was like "OH ". OK, so a picture was taken. What's funny is that, immediately after the photo was taken, Angela was swarmed by other spectators wanting autographs/photos, etc. Angela probably didn't expect this coming, but she was nice enough to fulfill everyone's request before she walked away. This is all your fault, Corbon! :rollin

After a while, we the gang still couldn't get the badges. So we went out to where the bus is, and we waited there in hope that people going back out from the tunnel will give up their badges to us. What's saddening is that there were people who acted like we are the cheap *******s, and wouldn't give up their badges. Well, what would you keep them for? Recycling is good, you know. Finally, after what seems like an eternity, I got myself a badge. So I ran with another MKFer, Imzadi, to our destiny - the tunnel. :rollin

After we found a spot for ourselves it's time to start the real show! First I saw Pang / Tong. I know they speak Mandarin so I spoke to them in Mandarin also, wishing them good luck for next season. Tong didn't act surprised and simply said "Thank you." Yeah right, like he's gonna be surprised that I am the only Chinese fan on the planet. :rollin After that I was busy having skaters sign on the program/taking pictures...and then came Michelle! Corbon already came back up to us from where he was and he encouraged me to get a picture of me with Michelle on my camera. Michelle of course approved. So when Corbon was aiming for a few seconds, he had to re-adjust for something due to whatever reason I'm not sure. But since I'm not a person good at posing for pictures (especially when I'm smiling/grinning, whatever ) I kind of :x at Corbon to hurry up. Michelle was funny. She joined my :x and said "Just shoot it!" :rollin OK, maybe not that funny, but to me it is. Yeah I know I'm a dork. :b And the picture actually came out like a dork with a gorgeous woman.

That's all I can remember for right now. If I remembered other funny things I'll post again.

Oh, btw, thanks for the gifts Jack! You da bomb!

kwanette, I have a hard time surfing around FSU. What is the name of the subject/review?

I wish I could give you guys more details, except that Michelle skated beautifully. However, she might have two footed her second double on the triple-double-double. The crowd really loved her.

I was too busy trying to get a good picture, so the details were gone on me, but man the girl is just too fast. She seemed like she was having a blast during the finale, with her cowboy hat and her grooving to the music. (I really really want to see her just dance hip hop...lifelong dream ) I think she was happy to be home!

More to come later. Off to work I go...!

Since some of the more eloquent SCal MKfers will be describing more in detail the final COI event, I'll try to add
a few highlights of my experiences.
Most of us were aptly labelled by "Bananak" as "Lolliegaggers",in short waiting for the last minute to buy the ticket for the event. Yesterday,Corbon & myself were the first one on the ticket counter and got good seats. For sure, you'll be able to see hundreds of photos as Corbon just kept "shooting away". I would say, this is one of the better show of COI that I've seen for awhile. Almost everyone did a fantastic performance. Of course,MK got the biggest applause. She is just mesmerizing. She did all those 4 double axels on the closing western portion.
After the show, most of us were trying to get passes to see the skaters. Some MKfers were able to secure passes. I was not able to get one ,so we went outside near the skater's bus hoping to get a glimpse before they leave. There was a barricade with security people and only allowed people who have passes.
I saw a group of people getting in line & boldly I sneaked in . I was able to position myself on the front row and one by one the skaters came along. It seems everyone was in good mood, probably because it is the last day. Irina was the first one to arrive. She looks thinner than I've seen her before. Tanith is really stunning in person. Then Jennifer.Sasha,Rudy etc. went by and signed their autographs.
Suddenly I heard screaming,"Michelle is here" and people went rushing and pushing trying to be on the front row. When she was infront of me, I did not get 'tongue-tied" this time. I asked permission to get a snapshot of her and she gladly posed. I also told her, that if she decides to go to Torino, I'll be there to cheer her as a MKF member.
Karen and her baby were there too.

This has been a wonderful thread to read. I am extremely jealous of everyone who got to go, since COI doesn't come here anymore. The last time it did was after SLC, so at least I got to see Mk do FOG (!!!) but still...
    Thanx everyone!
