Thanks for the continuing great reviews.

SF5, I thought the same thing re: allergies...and MK..Hope that you...and she feel better soon...Lovin' her combo..Go Kween!

Glad to hear that Sasha's groin pull is no longer affecting her skating..I can't imagine skating with an injury like that..Last week i pulled some muscles in my thigh...and I was in a state of inertia for three days...Of course, I am a year or two older than Sasha...

Thanks for all the reports I wish I could go

Usually Michelle's exhibition has more in betweens and less technical but I'm amaze of the 3-2-2 and COE spins. I agree, Maximin (sp?) has great posture, carriage and is more expressive than Tatiana. He's the best male in pairs right now, IMO>

bearpaw, you mean the people in front of you left before Michelle skated! How dare they (LOL)! I wonder who they came to see or why they were even there if they couldn't be bothered to stay for the 2nd half. Perhaps they were corporate seats and they weren't real skate fans. That's the only reason why I can even imagine leaving halfway through COI.

    WOW, a 3Z-2T-2L
I'm really impressed that she is using this tour to try out new things...this is great.

That's awesome that Michelle is doing the 3z/2t/2l! That is worth .5 more than the 3f/2t/2l and every tenth counts. :LD

  7. Default Glad Michelle is working on muscle memory

I, too, think it's great that Michelle is putting combos and other things in her COI program that she normally would not. It seems clear that she wants to work these things into her muscle memory so that they will be there for her when the next season starts. However, the extra 0.5 for a 3z/2t/2l over the same combination with a 3f, is likely not a gain, unless she goes for something more difficult than a 3f/2t combo, because under COP it's simply additive:

    3F/2T/2L + 3Z/2T = 3Z/2T/2L + 3F/2T

However, being able to do a 3 jump combo from either a 3F or 3Z start will give her more flexibility in her program and a better "plan B" if she misses her first attempt (with only a solo triple or just a triple-double combo).

Agreed. But she could upgrade the 3f/2t to 3f/3t, if she couldn't get the backend 3t in 3z/3t constantly clean rotated. But this limited her doing 3loop solely if she wants to maximum the points to repeat Lutz and Flip in her program.

I'm supprised that she tried 3z/3t in COI practice.

Oh my gosh, skatngfan! I was in 113 row 5 I was on the end of the row nearest the tunnel!

I too, had to get up extremely early since it was such an early show, we live 60-90 min (depending on traffic) from the city and I needed to order my tix at the box office yet. But it was worth it!

I think it was a flip in the beginning because she put her free leg in front while going foward before turning around and picking in, and there was no long entrance. Plus, from all reports that I had read she does a flip, I was pretty sure it was a flip, unless for her "short" entrance lutz she also puts her free leg in front before picking?

DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND MAY BE A MESSAGE? LISTEN TO THE LYRICS!!!!

QUOTE: "she was like coughing and blowing her nose and wouldnt take pics with no1"

She did with me, but I cant post it!!! anyone know how to?
She looked REALLY sick. There are different types of backstage passes, I had a VIP one, so I didnt have to stand behind the line. She actually got mobbed out of the dressing room, and really was coughing a lot, and her eyes were all watery, she just looked really miseable, then I saw how LONG the line was for people that wanted autographs who had the post show passes.....you know Michelle is Amazing, I think she made sure to sign everyones book, and yeah I saw her being gracious enough to pose for pics....I guess I dont blame her for not want to being photographed when she didnt feel her best, but she really looks cute in the pic I have of her.

I was in sect 110, and $80 is enough for the show, I CANT BELIEVE how much they wanted for front row!!!!! I mean come on!!!!!! Its not the olympics! I remember when COI used to be sold out, it was so empty!

Irina seemed to be rude to everyone, and I have seen it in others posts as well....she speaks very fluent English, dont let that fool you. She seems so nice and bubbly on TV, but this is the third time I have seen her backstage at an event, and shes sort of been rude everytime. She really seemed focused on her performance, looked in the best shape I have ever seen her, I really dont know what her excuse is....the other skaters were all very thankful and gracious....Jenny Kirk was really sweet especially.

It was cool to compare the performances of sasha, michelle and Irina, Michelle has skated better, but she did the most technically ambitious program, and for her completed the hardest combination she can do cleanly....(triple, triple, double attempt on the practice!!!!). Hey if she can skate like that sick, shes a trooper.
Sasha related to the crowd well, and really I thought of the top girls was the best that night.
I think for Irina, Oops I did it again....yeah OOPS she did do it again, I dont think her world title was a fluke this time, but she still cannot get from one end of the rink
to the other with SKATING. She and surya look pretty similar, althetic, great height, good speed, but FLAT, no edges, they look like gymnasts on ice, where michelle and sasha look like skaters/dancers.....
I really thought oops I did it again was a little remedial, considering Irina is the world champion, I mean the triple toes were good, as well as the loop, and the spins were great as usual, but it was just kind of strange to see her skate to that.
Stephan is by far, my fav guy skater, I never got to see him in person, and I LOVE him, he really is a complete skater, and I think will be hard to beat next season.
    Anyone else score backstage passes?
I thought $15 for the programs were nice!!! usually they are more! Guess when you pay $250 for the show, they should INCLUDE a program!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i12gosk8, if you read thru all the 10 pages here and on another thread, we have discussed any possible meanings to this song of Michelle's! A lot of good points have been made, but the one I like the best is that she's saying goodbye to the 6.0, that makes me feel better, lol

And yes, the show was EXPENSIVE!!! What is Tom Collins thinking?? Plus, he made it VERY difficult to purchase tickets by closing online buying earlier than usual and I think it was his decision about the by-phone problem too (not sure but it was weird and when I asked the ticketmaster operator about it she just said she never heard of such a thing). $125 is plenty expensive enough, if you ask me, and last year that bought me front row. I also noticed that NO other city was as expensive as Chicago... it actually would have been cheaper to fly into another city and buy front row there than for me to buy front row in my own town! Next year is just as expensive, btw.

I read the "next year" order form, but lost it, what is the date for next year in Chicago? June?? Thanks for any info!

you know, I really dont know....cause I never pre-order the tickets, I can ask my friends that were with me......
for $250 you might as well fly to ontario, take the shuttle to lake arrowhead and watch her practice!!! In all seriouness, if you pay that much to see the show, you should get a program, t-shirt, whatever, and be allowed to have at least aa post show pass, I couldnt believe it when I heard how much some people payed for tickets!!!!
I was AMAZED that it was that much, I mean even CHER is cheaper LOL!
that is way too much for an ice show......and the front row actually isnt the best, cause you cant see the whole show and the lighting, you just get to be closer to the skaters.......pictures, at least mine never turn out either!!!!!
anyone know how to post a pic, I have one of michelle from backstage.
Ill have to re-read the posts about the madonna song......She probably coreographed it herself, I mean it was pretty, but nothing spectacular, I know she has always liked Madonna though........so maybe she just liked the song.

  13. Default A few more comments about Chicago COI

COI programs have been $15 for the past several years -- some people complain that is too much, but I've never minded. After all, if I'm willing to pay $60 for the train to get there and back, not to mention $20 for cabs, and $125 for a ticket (which was a big jump from the $75-$80 I paid last year), then what's another $15. This was the only chance I had to see some live skating this year, so to me it was well worth the price.

It's interesting how people's perceptions differ. I thought that Sasha skated well (jump landings were less than 100% secure, especially on her 2 axel, but her Russian split jumps were great and her spiral was very nice) -- some of her spins weren't a fast as I remembered, but considering how many shows and how much traveling they've all done in the past few weeks (they were in Detroit on Saturday), then I can understand the skaters being a little tired. However, I thought that Sasha's program music just overwhelmed her skating -- she wasn't bold and brassy enough for the Streisand vocals. And I also thought that she seemed to be more inward focussed rather than projecting outward to the audience. Case in point, when she came around the corner at my end, instead of looking out at the audience, she averted her eyes back toward center ice. I had a friend who was a very good dancer (ballet), but in performance she always seemed to have a wall in front of her, like the audience really wasn't there. Oh well, it's probably just my perception, but other skaters (Michelle, Evan, Stephane, Gwendal and Marina, Irina, Jenny to name some of them) seemed to be directing more of their performance out to the audience. Again, it could just be my perception, but that's what I felt yesterday.

I didn't mention Evan in my first post, but he really skated well and definitely has an out-going, audience-friendly persona. I wondered if Johnny was still bothered by his injury because his skating wasn't at the level it was at last year's COI (where he was just about perfect). Also, it wasn't until the finale that I realized that Tanith & Ben didn't have a solo -- though they appeared in the opening and Tanith appeared in the finale. Today I read that Ben had an injury that occured during practice yesterday -- and that he was seeing a doctor about it (something about his hip). I hope it isn't serious and that he has a speedy recovery.

  14. Default Next year's Chicago COI date

I read the "next year" order form, but lost it, what is the date for next year in Chicago? June?? Thanks for any info!
Yes, next year COI will be in Chicago in June -- and if my memory is correct, the date is June 24 (I have the pre-order form at home). However, since the past two Olympic year tours have actually come to my town, I likely will be seeing the show here -- which will save me a lot of $$ (no train or cab), so I won't have to agonize about the ticket price (which will also likely be a lot less here than in Chicago).

i12gosk8, there are a lot of free image hosting sites, I use www.imagestation.com myself. Upload it there, click on the folder it gets put in, click it, then click properties, then post the url here. I'd love to see your pics!

LOL about front row coming with backstage passes! I've thought the same myself; if you have enough money for that expensice ticket, you're probably not a crazy person but a die-hard skating fan!

lol, I paid a lot to see madonna, that was crazy enough......I know a lot of the skaters, so to have to pay to see them sucks, but....if I get back stage passes and stuff and can get autpgraphs for my students and friends, its worth it.
    Always love seeing michelle....

Thanks, skatingfan, about the date. I also noticed that they are planning two shows for Chicago next year, I wish I could afford both, but the ticket $$ is still so high Could you tell me when the pre-sale is and if there's a code??

Yeah, I read that report on Ben too I hope everything's alright, I was really bummed not getting to see their number! I know it would've been tweaked for a show, but the essence still would've been their competitive free dance.

She did attempt some triple lutz, triple toe combinations, one landed, but cheated and threw a double loop on the end, if she keeps working on it shell get it.
Am I reading this right, she did a 3/3/2 (although cheated on the second triple)?? Yowzers!

I was also at the Chicago show and enjoyed every minute but the highlight was, of course, Michelle and the one disappointment was that Ben and Tanith didn't skate their number. They were out there together for the introductions but I never saw him again. It was only Tanith in the closing. Perhaps he was sick. I just don't know.
Anyway, I did take some pictures (well, actually a lot of pictures) but the seats I had this year may be the worst I've ever had at COI - about 15 rows up at the far end of the rink opposite where the skaters come out. So, between the far distance and the theatre lighting, it was a challenge, to say the least. I'm posting what I have uploaded and I know they are not the best; but the important thing is we can see Michelle, so I hope you like them. I will upload more of the show as time permits.

Thanks for your reports - I think. I never am sure how to interpret your remarks though, as for every compliment you give michelle there is a subtle, and at times not so subtle stab at her. I mean you report on her success with jumps and her ambitious technical program, and report she skated very sick, and then say her program was "nothing special." And how many times do we need to hear that you thought Sasha "looked the best" of all the ladies. Your entitled to your opinion, and I don't mind hearing it but gee, there is a subtle dig at Michelle in almost all your posts. Then there was that post about her Bolero being "trash." What did she do to you to make you such a fair weathered fan? Sorry if I'm over-reacting but it's been really bugging me.

How do you guys get these backstage passes?
I've never been to COI or SOI or any skating show for that matter. SIGH!

When I'm a star I'm going to buy a skating tour and go around with them on a bus and hang out back stage!!

    oh it'll be heaven!

I agree with you SF5, this is how I felt last week. I enjoyed her performance, it really showed off some of her best moves, but it didn't do much for me emotionally. I'm not saying a skater has to move you to tears every time (last week, only Michelle and Pang/Tong did that for me), but I wanna feel something when the program was over. I enjoyed Irina more, because although I don't like the song, she was upbeat and playeful and really connected with the audience (I thought!). Actually, I felt most of the skaters projected well. That's what a skating show should be about-skating for the fans.
