Veryhappy The Greatest Female Figure Skater of All Time Thread and Poll

Well... this really is a moot point since we're all going to vote Michelle... haha.

But let's see who comes in second. Vote for three!

    There, that is three.

Only Heaven could send us such an angelic skater.

well I was being a smarty pants I did vote now. I voted of course for MK, then Chen Lu, then the rest was a toss up. I picked Peggy Fleming for number three.

Only Heaven could send us such an angelic skater.

    I totally go with:

    Michelle Kwan
    Midori Ito
    Kristi Yamaguchi

    Kwan is just.....well.......PERFECT!

Ito revolutionized the sport in terms of athleticism, and had such an amazing WOW factor to her performances. I NEVER got tired of watching anything she did because it was larger than life!

Kristi Yamaguchi reminds me very much of Kwan on many levels, and she was National Champion in both Pairs and Singles! She had great consistency over the years, and truly showed that delicate artistry backed with very solid technique will take you a long way. Kristi was my Michelle before I jumped onto the Kwan bandwagon!

How can you have a poll of the greatest female figure skaters of all time and leave Sonja Henie off the list?

    Sonja Henie

    3 Olympic Gold Medals
    10 World Championships

I was looking for Sonja too... I thought that I was maybe going crazy!

I picked MK, PF, and KW...

I agree that Henie should be on the list too.

I think for this type of poll, it should consist of a skater that has left the sport different after participating in it.

Kwan, Henie, Ito, Fleming, Yamaguchi, etc. all made wonderful contributions to the sport, and have been great ambassadors!

    Default Doh!

I knew I forgot about someone... How could I have left out Sonja Henie! And Carol Heiss for that matter!

I forgot Paul Wylie at the Greatest Male too.

It's hard rememebring all these people when you're creating these polls!

Michelle is first of course! I would have voted for Denise Bielmann if she had been an option for second. She was truly original, modern and energetic-
OOPs just saw her name-never mind!

Thanks for posting my thoughts for me. Sonja has to be on any such list.

You also left Katia off the list. Even though she will probably appear on a pairs list in the future (hint hint!) She is a great singles skater too!!

IMO, Madge Sayers should also be on the list. After all, there wouldn't even be a ladies event for Sonia, MK, and all the others to compete in, if she hadn't demonstrated that women can skate competitively, too.

I only voted for one because I didn't pay attention to see we could vote for more.

You're missing several great ladies skaters - Sonja Henie, Tenley Albright, Carol Heiss, Barbara Ann Scott, Janet Lynn to name just a few. I'd certainly have these ladies on the poll long before Sarah Hughes, Oksana Baiul, Yuka Sato, etc.

My list is Michelle Kwan, Janet Lynn and Dorothy Hamill.

As far as the most influential and dominate skater for the longest time and who has records that will likely never be surpassed I'd have to argue for Sonja Heine: 6 National Championships, 6 European Championships, 10 World Championships and 3 Olympic Gold Medals!
My heart says Michelle but all modern skaters stand on the enormous and very beautiful shoulders of Sonja Heine.

The greatest on this list is Katerina Witt because she won two Olympic Gold Medals.

  20. Default The Greates Female Figure Skater of All Time!!!!

Michelle Kwan. I think you all know me well enough to know who my favorite it. I love Peggy and Dorothy, but Michelle is the one who tugs at my heart and with or without a Olympic Gold she is still the best.

    Happy New Year!!!

I hoped Chen Lu would have garnered more votes. Course I like her artistry and am not basing my definition of greatness on wins but on how a skater makes me feel which is why no one will ever measure up to Michelle in my book. Medal or no medal, NO ONE ELSE has transported me to another level like Michelle.

My List goes something like this

1st - Tara Lipinski - I'm probably the only person to pick Tara before I picked Michelle but I'm a huge Tara fan and I love her and she inspires me.
    2nd - Michelle Kwan
    3rd - Kimmie Meissner

I love Sarah and Emily Hughes too.
