Thanks for the link. They are beautiful photos.

Good photos. That is the first time I have ever seen Michelle do a biellmann position spiral.

I believe that photo with the biellman spiral position is Shizuka not Michelle.

You are correct. I enlarged and it is Shizuka. I think the vera wangnish of her costume threw me.

A report on the Denver show on FSU, says MICHELLE JUMPED at that show. Can anyone from this forum who went verify that? THAT IS GREAT NEWS.

    - and MK caught a toe in the finalle as she stated out of the center, cute look on her face when she did it. And Mk did jump but, a not so high eagle.

I read that review also but my interpretation was that MK did a wally(which is not technically a jump) into a into a spread eagle. I could be wrong because I was not there.

    Default Seattle 7/29, 3pm show

Here’s my report from the 3pm show in Seattle Sat 7/29:
First, I don’t know how much Michelle’s appearance on the local talk show helped(I’m sure it did), this show was amazingly well attended. The Everett Event Center is pretty new and they obviously did not have much experience handling such a huge crowd. The security guard said they were expecting 7,000+ people. We had to wait in a long line just to get in. The lower section on each side was 100% filled, the far end lower AND upper sections also appear to be close to 100% filled, the rest of the arena was at least 50% filled. Long bathroom lines everywhere. Crazy! The last time I went to a COI show was 6 years ago at the Key Arena in downtown Seattle(Everett is an hour north of Seattle). This is a much more intimate arena. I had no idea skating is so popular in Seattle. Since we’re so close to Canada though wouldn’t surprise me if there were a few Canadians in the crowd.

On to the show – I don’t remember what everyone did, just some highlights:

Loved the hoola hoop girl ! Very entertaining. As are the acrobats. I think they’re there for the kids and casual fans, I totally enjoyed them.

T&M gave the best performance of the evening. They also have the best ice coverage and spread out their jumps and spins at both ends of the rink. Most skaters just did it all on one side(the far side from us, grrr). I never cared for them on TV but in person they are amazing. I’m a new fan! Their throw 3loop, sbs jumps, spins and lifts were all beautifully executed.

B&A was great skating to their salsa number. Tanith’s blond locks were so eye catching she could almost skate with a rubber doll and no one would notice.

Johnny Weir was very good. I’ve always liked his artistry and he did not disappoint. However he skated almost all on one side and rarely came over to our side. Did a beautiful 3axel in the opening.

Half way through Irina’s routine a very annoying security lady demanded some guy in the front row hand her an empty beer bottle. Irina skated by, saw the whole thing, got distracted and promptly fell on her next jump – the only fall of the evening. Otherwise her routine was very enjoyable.

Stephane Lambiel was another surprise. His artistry blew me away. I thought Johnny was good until Lambiel came out. He didn’t jump much but his series of spins at the end more than made up for it. The crowd loved it.

Shizuka was beautiful. Silky smooth. The spiral was beautifully executed and went the whole length of the rink. Impressive bend on that Ina Bauer. Very secure jump landings. I liked her spiral more than Sasha’s.

Loud cheers for Sasha before and after. Rightly so. She was beautiful to watch. She’s so petite though, good thing she had that really bright red outfit on. Beautiful charlotte, split jumps and spirals. Her jump landings were shaky on all jumps but she landed them.

Loud cheers for Plushenko before and after. Very high energy routine. Powerful skater. Reel off 3axels like it’s the easiest thing in the world.

Michelle came out, crowd went nuts. By far the loudest cheers. She waved before starting her routine. It was a subdued performance, but I just love the way she moves. Nobody moves like the Kween!! I last saw her I think in 2000 when she did that James Bond routine, she didn’t move like she does today. Very graceful, deliberate and sexy but in a subtle way. When she skated off I could see her slapping and messaging her hip. She only participated briefly in the opening(loudest cheers again) and then join everyone at the end of the group number to go around the rink and wave goodbye. As they waved goodbye she moved to the row right in front of her, didn’t see what she did but maybe to hug some lucky audience member? The tall acrobat guy waited for her then gave her a hug as they skated off.

No one really got any standing ovation except at the end of the group number. A few people stood for Sasha and Michelle. Saw one sign for Michelle.

Before, during and after the show people around me seem to just talk about Michelle -- how happy they finally got to see her, how they got to meet her on the talk show on Friday, how she still seemed injured…

Between the Seattle Times article, the talk show and the reception for her at COI, I can understand why Michelle says she loves Seattle, it’s because we LUUUURRVE her here in the Pacific Northwest!! I’m looking forward to the tour ending so she could get some much needed rest. Get well soon Michelle. Seattle loves you!!

    A few more observations:

The camera adds 10 lbs, maybe more -- it's true!!! The only person I would say not very thin is Irina, but she probably has that naturally thicker build to begin with, definitely not fat though. Shizuka is rail thin. Sasha is thin but so petite she looks fine, her weight is in good proportion to her height. Michelle did not look overweight at all. She's actually still quite petite. Her legs are probably more muscular than Sasha's but she's definitely not out of shape. Tanith also looks very in shape, not too thin at all. Evan is very tall. Surya does not appear as "thick" or muscular in person. She's quite petite.

At the final group number, I noticed Tanith and Irina are good dancers. Sasha didn't dance. Shizuka can't dance!

There is a report on FSU that Michelle injured herself in the finale of the 3 p.m. Everett show. Scroll down to posts #550 and #555:

Any word on whether this is true or false? Anyone at the 8 p.m. show?

I was at the 8pm show she skated but of course there were no jumps. she covered the ice as much as possible. she came close my section at least once.

During the group closing I could not see her at all I dont know if it was bc they all wore white. but it wasn't until the final 60 secs my mom pointed her out. and as soon as i saw her my camera died!

it was a great show but it was so different because this was my first time seeing a skating show (okay, i saw finding nemo but it's not real skating)

michelle tried her best but she is definitely still trying to recover.

i also think the most awkward feeling was shiz skating to FOG which michelle skated to that.

my favorite performers at the everett 8pm show were

    -ring lady
    -sasha
    -shiz
-plushy (i wanted to like get up and dance)
-michelle!!! (favorite move, "hydroplane" also in person its a different feeling but she was still a little tiny to see. i was in section 105.)

Thanks for letting us know, michelle02olympics. I had heard the same thing attyfan posted from a friend who went to the 3pm show, and I was going crazy waiting to see a report from someone who was at the 8pm show to see if she skated. That's good news, at least.

MK02, I didn't realize that Shiz skated to FOG. Thanks for the info.

Didn't Michelle once skate to "You Raise Me UP" (Josh Groban version)?

Yes MK did skate to You Raise Me UP by Josh Groban. Shizuka is skating to You Raise me up as well unless she changed in the last couple of shows. It always gives me the creeps when I see Shizuka skating to it though - she interprets it so much like MK did right down to the color of the dress she wore.

I just am so upset when I hear about MK's hip injury still hurting, I decided on the spot today to by tickets to Bakersfield COI. I just have to see her again. I worry that it will be a long time before I get another chance.

    Attyfan,
Yes, MK skated to YRMU for her 2005 exhibition. That's why I indicated that Shizuka skated to the Celtic Woman version, not Josh Groban, because that's the one Michelle used. I like both versions of the song.

Its weird that Shizuka would choose two songs to skate two after Michelle skated to them, for the same type of program (exhibitions). I don't think any other skater could do FOG like Michelle.

  18. Default

Whose version of FOG did Shizuka skate to? Sting’s or Eva Cassidy’s?

  19. Default

So which program is Shiz now skating YRM or FOG?

I am certain Michelle02Oympics meant Shizuka skated
    "YRM" not "FOG"

If she does FOG, thats kinda bizzare.....
It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. Thanks - that is what I thought too. It did seem strange for Shiz to change her program and even stranger that it was FOG.

    Default Portland

Hi, went to the Portland show today! It was so great to see Michelle. She looked so happy and was smiling the whole time she was on the ice. I didn't see anything to indicate she was sporting a fresh injury as reported yesterday. She did her piece in the opening and her solo. She did not skate in the finale, except for the skate-around at the end. I think that is the same as other shows.

Our first excitement was just getting there. We took the MAX (light rail) in to town from one of the outlying stations. There was a sign at the station that there were some delays, but we saw a train waiting up the track a ways, so we weren't too worried. After we boarded, the announcer said that one of the bridges into downtown was having electrical probs, so the train would stop at Lloyd Center and there would be shuttle busses from there. It was only about 6 blocks from the arena, so we decided to walk instead of dealing with the crowds & busses. We got to our seats just about 3:00, but I wasn't too worried, because I know the show always starts about 15 min late.

The lower arena was fairly full. We were up higher than usual - row M, due to the way they priced the tix this year. Even I just couldn't see paying $95 a pop for the first 10 rows. We had well behaved people sitting around us, and no big heads in front of us. That's all that really matters to me! Our seats were center ice, across from the skaters entrance. We had a good view of everything!

I'll give you the highlights for me, not a blow by blow.

First, the intros. My eyes filled with tears when the Oly music started playing, just thinking about what should have been. Sasha got the loudest ovation of all the skaters before her, but Michelle's was several times louder than that.

The first half seemed kind of short, and when I checked my watch, it had only been about 45 minutes from the start of the show. Johnny was the highlight of the 1st half for me. He was just amazing. He is still doing My Way, which I was glad for. I so wanted to see that. Rudy was great & energetic as always (he opened the show). Dan Hollander gets the prize for the most creative. I was disappointed in Irina's performance. A lot of skating around & arm flapping. Not a whole lot that really expressed the particular music Hey Big Spender. I had expected more interpretation & character from her. I think she did mostly double jumps. Surya & Viktor were also in the 1st half. Evan too. I'm prob forgetting someone! Viktor closed the half. (I'm gonna save this before I lose something, then will come back in to Edit, to write the rest.)

The 2nd half of course started with the hula hoop girl, Lambiel, then the acrobats. They are interesting acts, but I would rather see "real" skating. Lambiel was great, very interesting piece and he really looked energetic when greeting the audience at the end. He did one series of spins that was amazing! He must have done at least 6-8 spins in a row. I don't know how he skated after that! I like him.

Shiz was amazing. She skated to YRMU. I liked her much better than I have in the past. Such great line and so expressive. TT &MM were also mesmerizing, as reported by others. The most I've ever enjoyed them. Now that they are out from under Oly pressure, maybe they are able to relax and be more expressive in their skating. Sasha was OK, but her song choice & performance seemed a little cheezy to me after the several amazing performances before her.

Plushy really got the fw going at one point. But pretty much Plushy.

Michelle was so warmly received and she looked so happy & thrilled to be with the audience again. She really puther heart & soul into this performance. I love it. So nice to see her doing a charlotte again. Of course, it was over way too fast.

Then the closing, and no Michelle until the skate around. In the bowing line, she was right in front of me so I got a nice pic of her. After the lights went down, she skated over to the fron row & hugged someone, then exited with the rest of the skaters.

We didn't go to the busses this year. I got autographs & pix a couple years ago. Sometimes I don't feel like dealing with all the crowds etc. Plus, I'd reather let the little kids get their autographs. It is prob a bigger deal to them.

Then we had to walk 6 blocks back to where the MAX was starting & go home. Stopped for pizza after we got the to car. Yum!

It was a good show. Better than a few years ago when I was about ready to quite going to COI. No repeat programs from anyone, which was nice. It's about time! More music that I like than what I didn't like this year, for a change. It was so great to see MK again. I didn't miss the jumps at all. In fact I think I liked it better. That much more interp & emotion. She's our girl!

My pics turned out pretty good. I'll post them in a few days! (Sorry this is so long!)

PS - A&P and B&A were also there. I like both of them, especially A&P. Nice to have them back on tour.

    Hi Lori
Thanks so much for the great review, you put my mind more at rest about her reported re-injury. Can't wait to see the pictures - I know you take such good ones - you inspired me to get tickets for the closest COI to me - I'll be going to Bakersfield in 2 weeks. I can't wait to see Michelle - glad you had such a good time. Your report reminded me of the great time we had at 05 nationals in Portland.

After reading the reports on the FSU thread about the Everett show(s), I really hope Michelle is okay. But thank you for your report, iloveskating. Hopefully more MKFers will ease the whole injury concern with theirs.
    Rach on, Michelle!
