Question Who was MK's biggest rival ever?

Who do you think was Michelle's biggest rival in her entire career so far?

I think it was Tara, because she was the only one who ever really threatened Michelle's titles. After she retired, no one could beat Michelle.

I think Tara... Tara pushed Michelle and Michelle pushed Tara.. could you imagine what it would have been like if Tara continues like Michelle

I have to go with Irina, since that rivalry lasted so much longer than did MK/Tara.

I also said Irina b/c it lasted much longer than Tara's rival with MK. Tara's rival with Michelle really only lasted a couple years, compared to Irina and MK who have been skating in the same important competitons with each other for many years. Can anyone remember the first time MK and Irina skated together competitively? It is blanking from my mind at the moment.

Michelle's been skating against herself forever and that's why she lost the Olympics. They were comparing her '98 National performance to her Olympic performance.

The powers that be created the rivalry with irina based on the2000 grand prix. Ever since Irina became this rival which was false because imo there's no way that Irina is the figure skater that Michelle is.

I would Irina though Tara may have pushed Michelle more but Irina and Michelle have been skating against each other for a much longer period of time.

Good point about her biggest rival being herself though lavender, I think if I didn't already vote I would have to agree.

I put Tara, because altough Irina and Michelle were long time competitiors, Tara was an american skater like Michelle, so she was a threat to her national title, and other U.S competitions, so they were pushing each other.

But the main reason I picked Tara was that they were constantly together, I mean, like I said before, they are both american skaters, so they were competing against each other in national and international competitions.

With Irina, it was just the international ones.

I say Irina completely simply because she has been around since Michelle has. It took Irina longer to work her way to the top but she was around when Michelle won worlds 1996. In 2000, Irina moved up to be a gold medal threat.

Tara was only around for two or three years and she was only a threat for two years 1997 and 1998. That's not that big...

It was never a rivalry between Michelle and Sasha because Michelle came out on top 93% of the time. Michelle might be Sasha's greatest rival seeing as how she rarely beat her, but Sasha is not even close to being Michelle's greatest rival.

Sarah Hughes...please. She didn't come close either. She got lucky on one night and won Olympic gold and that was pretty much it. Sarah never presented much of a challenge either.

So it would definitely be Irina and it's only at the international level because Michelle has owned the United States (as far a figure skating goes) for the past ten years. Even when other people win (Tara in 1997, Sasha now) she's still America's best.

Irina. Because she was the only one ever able to beat a clean Michelle. (Minus the travesty of Nagano.)

Although actually, I believe even Irina has only beat a clean Michelle in the short program. I don't think that she deserved to be placed ahead of Michelle in those instances (i.e. 2001 worlds), but really I feel Irina has made it to the top due to consistency. (However, under COP she is horrendously overmarked, though not quite as much as Sasha. And yes, I do like Irina.)

I voted Irina because Michelle and Irina both skated very well at multiple competitions. In Tara VS Michelle or Sasha VS Michelle situations, rearly did both competitors skate well.

Irina, with Tara as close second. Sarah? not exactly, and SC does not have what it takes to be MK's rival

I say Irina, her accomplishments match Michelle's much more closely than any of the other skaters listed.

Sasha was hyped as a rival/threat to Michelle but never really met that challenge and Cohen has never won a World or Olympic title and is the only one in this group who has never achieved a clean LP skate at a major competition.

Irina is who I went with and her accomplishments and longevity among this group is the closest to Michelle's record and status.

Sarah had the skate of her life at the moment she needed it most when everyone else had mistakes right off the heels of the pairs scandal that rocked the skating world at the 2002 Olympics. One major competition a rivalry does not make.

Tara posed a threat to Michelle for only 2 seasons. It was a great but very short-lived rivalry.

I say Tara because she was somehow able to beat Michelle's performance in Nagano.

Although actually, I believe even Irina has only beat a clean Michelle in the short program. but Michelle two-footed the combination in 2001. I won't even mention that she had a flutz cause Irina never does a true lutz.

I say Tara. They both pushed eachother and well Tara did beat a clean Michelle at Nagano Games. They both skated really well there too. I'm not just saying that being a Tara fan but she did push Michelle and like was said above they were both American skaters.

I know I answered the poll a while back and I know I voted for Irina. I feel like it was Irina because of the longevity of both ladies skating. Although I was never for Irina I was always on the edge of my seat when they competed.

Tara was such a child compared to Michelle, and I was always nervous when Sasha skated but you could always count on her long program to pull her down.

the lutz-combo was not two-footed...a few of the judges just thought it was so she was marked down...had she two-footed her combo for real she would not have gotten second for the short

I like Irina as a person, but I dislike her skating. To me, Michelle is in a league of her own. Irina, to me, resembles Surya Bonaly, stiff edges and powerful strokes, but no passion in the art of skating.

As the biggest competitor, I will have to give it to Tara, because it was truly drama on ice to see them, battle their hearts out for Gold '98. Tara was a shooting star.

And let's all face the truth, Tara and Michelle created the biggest drama on ice.

There wasnt much to Michelle and Irina. Irina was only a shadow, stroking after Michelle. Lipinski was a shooting star.

I'd go with herself. Ultimatly, I believe Michelle to be in a class by herself. No one can really touch her, the only times they have is when Michelle has doubted herself and held back. JMHO.

Aside from the Olympics and '97 Nats & Worlds, in what other competitions did the judges perceive that Tara performed better than Michelle?
