I know Michelle donates her stuffed animals to children's hospitals, but who knows? Maybe she'll keep the toothbrush just as one of the most unique gifts she's ever received. I don't think she'll just "throw it out."

A lot of skaters do not throw their gifts away. However, it is impossible for skaters like Michelle or Sasha, to keep everything that they recieve. A lot of the more popular skaters keep their favorite items but donate the rest to organizations that can use them.

I know that almost anything eatable does get thrown away because it could have something foreign in it. Skaters do appreciate seeing their fans bring them or send them eatables though. It is just another "I care" thing.

On another note, Michelle and many other skaters do not get weirded out by people who post on online forums or surf their official websites. This is evident by the excitement and happiness that many skaters get when you say something like, Dan or Jenny, "I love reading your journal. Your website is awesome!" They like to know that their effort to keep everyone updated is not wasted-- so keep mentioning internet stuff to skaters. It is not weird and the skaters know you're not weird.

Never be discouraged by a few people who try to ruin the good times of others. Skaters do enjoy receiving gifts just as any other person likes to receive gifts. And the skaters love to know that you pay attention to them. If they did not care, they would walk right past you when you are waiting for autographs. They honestly would.

Keep supporting all your favorite skaters. Remember that skaters like Johnny Jenny, who are new to the tour, could use a little extra.

I hate trolls that seek to ruin perfectly good threads. I wish people would take a look in a mirror before they start defining what is weird or not.

honey, I hate people that use the word "troll" and bash someone just because they don't like what that person had to say, so I guess we're even.

BTW, isn't this a non-bash board? Oh yeah, y'all have a poster who's entire name is a bash (pitisuxs), so what should I expect, right? LOL

Yaz, ITA, especially about the donations to the different funds.

Peach sorry but someone whose first post is to take it upon themselves to call someone 's behaviour weird that they don't know and decides to play mind reader as to what Michelle kwan cares or doesn't care about to me is a troll. They always pop up not to say something nice but to say something nasty in a thread. Vicky was excited about meeting Michelle and wanted to share her experience and most of the posts were very nice there was no need for any nastiness. I can handle people not agreeing with me personally on a topic or if there is a difference of opinion within a topic what I can't stand is when someone is rude and condescending.

So instead of being open to new people and opinions, you choose to label them. Nice. :x So Aimee is blunt, so are a lot of people here. I guess they're all trolls too, eh?

Peach: I think you make a good point. Unfortunately, I would imagine that most celebs throw a lot of gifts like these out, especially if they involve food--they might not even get the chance, as show security/staff might have a policy to do this for them. With all the security risks these days, no-one can afford to take chances. While the average fan obviously is just showing affection and means well, the skater/celeb can't take the risk of possibly having the one wacko that really hates them getting through and handing them something harmful. I know that most skaters donate their stuffed animals to children's hospitals, but I imagine some of the other gifts, especially the "consumable" ones get tossed. Thats a sad commentary on the state of affairs in our country today. I wasn't even surprised to hear that there were people who appeared to be guarding Michelle. She's faced threats of harm before and she always has the largest group of fans trying to get to see her. Again, she just can't take chances, even as outgoing as she is.

Personally, I think the nicest gift anyone could give a skater is a donation to their favorite charity or to the UFSF Memorial Fund or the ISI Educational Fund (even elite skaters like Sasha and Timmy have supported ISI by skating in their annual charitable event). THAT would be a gift a skater would TRULY love hearing about!!!!!

Peachskater first I have nothing against new opinions and perspective but there is nothing that says I have to agree with it. Also this wasn't a welcome thread with a newbie introducing themselves or asking a question. As a human being we put labels on everything and everyone whether we want to admit it or not. There is a difference between bluntness and taking cheap shots also unless otherwise informed I don't think anyone here is in any position to label what someone does as sad or weird. .
This will be my last comment on this matter before things get too far off course from the original topic.

You don't need anything special to store them, they are basically just urls that are hyperlinked. I have quite a few friends that make them and belong to a variety of boards that use them. I always seem to find a new one that comes in handy for whatever discussion-slash argument is taking place. For instance, I found one that I think characterizes the argument that is currently taking place in this thread: [img]http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0SQCbAsIWgFmw!lHVM*SCwEz2Oarumj!BqUcsiDWsF2krw4pzy XYzHtf4J95p17yDWbKy*f81mkNCejMSJUOtjefSGwvF81RkA4! Vicky, thanks for sharing your wonderful meeting with Michelle. Don't worry about those here who have taken an opportunity of being the behavior police. You did a great job communicating with Michelle and it is not inappropriate in any way to speak to her or offer her a gift. It's pretty easy, isn't it? When I met MK the first time, it was her birthday and she was sincerely touched by our best wishes. At first I was nervous, then as she approached me, I felt such a sense of calm. Michelle is just special that way...
Congrats, Vicky!!! I hope you stay on kloud Kwan for a long time.

Vicky, thanks for sharing your story with us. I love hearing about people's backstage encounters and I'm sure Michelle got a chuckle out of the tootbrush.

Yaz, thanks for mentioning about Tim and Sasha skating in the charity show. There was a thread in Skating Chat about skaters who participate in various charitable events and it was great to see how many skaters are involved in such good causes. It's always nice to hear about people who have been blessed with such talent to use their talent to help others and do something constructive. Tim and Sasha both also list their favorite charities on their websites and donate a portion of the money raised from merchandise sold on the website to those charities. And of course we know that Michelle has been a spokesperson for the Children's Miracle Network. It really seems that skaters do a good job in giving back to their community.

Vicky: Congratulations on meeting MK and giving her a toothbrush . Your report sounds like MK was appreciative so don't let a few TROLLS make you feel like you did something wrong.

As for skaters tossing out gifts, I know MK gives the gifts she doesn't keep to charities and children in hospitals, so any gift you give her is eventually appreciated and I'm sure MK is not so much of a clod to not appreciate the thought of the gift giver.

Vicky, you have nothing to feel concerned about; obviously we have some "visitors" here who know very little about the history of the Forum.

Thank you all for your support!

There is nobody who could destroy my emotions and joy of meeting Michelle. She was very gracious and accepting of my gift. As she approached the door to leave and go to the bus she DID open the box of Junior Mints and I saw her eat one(or several could not see how many). When I told her there was a toothbrush included she thank me and said she needed one (by the way it was Tosca orange)!:rollin

In addition MICHELLE was the one who told me to make sure I said hello to the forum from her. So I think she DOES CARE!

I AM A PROUD MEMBER OF THIS FORUM AND VERY PROUD TO BE A MICHELLE KWAN FAN!:SP

First off, Vicky, thanks for your report, you were indeed lucky to have such a nice encounter with MK.

As for those of you who want to label certain ones of us trolls or call us "visitors who know nothing about the forum," think again. I've been here for several years, and those who know me, know I got my handle the "MKF reality queen" for a reason, namely a reality focus!!!! I think what Peach brought up actually illustrates a reasonable point. There is a lot of security these days as evidenced by the possible bodyguards with MK, and those involved with skating events know that gifts from fans tend to be scrutinized and may be discarded if there is any concern about them. Its actually a good heads up for everyone. No-one should be insulted or upset if they can't present a gift to a skater or if it is not kept, as the safety of the skater is the primary focus.

Vicky: I probably should have noted that Timmy and Sasha were the ISI guests in separate years. In fact, one of my precious pieces of skater memorabilia is an autographed copy of the "Sasha" issue of the ISI magazine from back in 2002 that I bid on at an education fund auction at the ISI convention in 2003. I wasn't much of a Sasha fan until I read the article in my original copy recieved in 02. After reading it, I discovered that what I sometimes took for "attitude" with Sasha was just a very driven and focused perspective on her part. I realized she was quite a nice young lady. Its nice that she and Timmy and others still do this for ISI, an organization that often gets forgotten or "put down" in comparison to USFS.

Thanks again Vicky, for sharing your experiences. COI doesn't come to my area every year and this being one of those years, I especially appreciate the reports given here and in other threads. Looks like Michelle still is a fan of the junior mints, eh?
