Thread: Michelle could have won !

Default Michelle could have won !

    Her Jump Layout was

2a, 3s, 3f, 3z/2t, 3t/2t, 3f/2t/2t, 3z and she said she wanted to do a 3/3. I also think Her 1998 Lyra was better than all of them today 7 triples and the girl that won today only had 5. I am crying now.

Default Kwan not being a contender. Please. She couldn've won the LP and the whole competition.

Well all that just removes any doubt that a healthy Kwan could've steamrolled her competitions here.

I can't get into could haves because I believe in fate and it just wasn't meant to be.

I also feel like the olympic gold wasn't meant for Sasha or Irina.

These skaters are better than the actual gold medalist from the past 2 Olympics so it's all weird to me.

I am trying to not get into wat ifs either. When the dust settles-somethign big will come out of this. The lack of fairness of this sytem..and how amazing Michelle really did in SLC and nagano.

She'll be back. Our pride, our angel.

I HOPE she comes back next year, Remember 2003 ? I have a feeling she wants to win with this new COP. I hope she thinks about 010 too.

IIRC, the bulk of the "Kwan wasn't a contender" talk was due to doubts about Michelle's health. Also, a lot that I read involved "for Michelle to win, the others would have to f*** up", without recognizing the likelihood that they would!

Default What a pefect opportunity for Michelle sorely missed!

LOL. I was about to post the same thread.

With both favorites Cohen and Slutskaya falling, I could have seen Michelle winning today. Just reading the play-by-play, tears started watering in my eyes, because I knew that this was Michelle's opportunity. The pressure would have gotten to the other players, and Michelle would have had an opportunity even if she decided to skate a clean skate.

Plus most of the other skaters doubled their combos, and a lot were tired after the first half of their program. Michelle, even partially injured, would have gained a place higher than Emily Hughes. However, in my heart of hearts, I know that Michelle follows what is the right thing to do, and that was the right thing to do.

Well a great win for Japan, I suppose. This is like the 3rd Olympics where an upset was made. And most coming from people who didn't have strong scores in the short program.

Man, I knew that Cohen would succumb to the pressure. It is only a matter of time. That is why she shouldn't have been gloating yesterday, and instead should have worried about overcoming her nemesis, which was the free skate.

I think IF the injury had not occurred, there would've been a strong chance here. Although could she have beaten Arakawa?!

Yes- 5 tripples is beatable, she couldve gone on that passionate Kwan rampage-a la salome, or Tosca, and sealed that baby in her bag! You know Michelle kidna goes nuts when she's on, in a good way I mean...her emotion wouldve won it, and the tripples wouldve oozed out of her body.

If Michelle was clean and delivered her 6 triple program with her combinations. She would have had some high marks like Sasha did in the short.

Who knows how Michelle would of skated and where she would of finished. I definitely think she would of been one of the ones battling for a spot on the podium. With errors made by both Sasha and Irina, I think its possible that she got either the Gold or Silver.

I was just watching my local sports show, and got all annoyed because the one guy asked if Michelle could have won, and the other guy said no, because she still didn't have the technical. *sigh*

Michelle Kwan could have wiped the floor with this competition. This year or any other year.

If Michelle had been there, I believe we would have seen better performances tonight. She is the only one that can bring the kind of tension to "force" skaters to be on their toes.
I'm trying to NOT think of what could of been if MK had been there (breaks my heart), but I'm satisfied knowing that Michelle is indeed THE BEST and I'm sure every one that knows "anything" about skating, knows this...wether they admit it or not.

Guys. Whose to say the pressure wouldn't have gotten to Michelle there too. It got to Michelle in Salt Lake. Sasha's skate at the last two World championships would have gotten her the gold medal this year.. It's just that Cohen couldn't handle the pressure. Neither could Irina...Whose to say the same thing wouldn't have happened for Michelle...

One could easily argue that Mao Asada could have won this thing too. Basically you have to be there to win it, and I really think it was the pressure..Shiz skated cautiously with 5 triples and stayed on her feet, that's what did it for her.. Who knows after Cohen falling, Shiz didn't say "hey I can take silver and went out and did a clean performance)

Definitely MK could have won w/ a clean performance.
It is interesting that none of the ladies really landed the 3/3 except for SC? And it was a sequence. I wonder how clean it was.
    Did Kimmie land one?

And I’m not trying to take anything away from Shizu (glad she won), but she did land only 5 clean triples?

Wow! The pressure did get to the top contenders!
I think IS was probably too nervous and knew she had to be clean because the SP was so close.
She has not been in this position for the last 2 years. (except for the GPF w/ Mao). She had always had a comfortable lead going into the LP.

And what are they basing their technical analysis on. Two years ago. Sheesh. She hasn't skated in a high pressure competion since the Worlds 2005, and she didn't medal there becaue of small technicalities. I mean, you don't bet against the woman that probably holds the record for the most landed triples over a career as well, do you? It just shows how some "sports analyst" are just talking mouth pieces.

All those performances were beatable. And Michelle program alone would have have more emotion and footwork than any of them. It is just sad that she is not there to shut them up. Come nationals, maybe she can right some of the wrongs.
