Thread: The MK Gold Medal Project (Deadline extended to 4/1)

Default The MK Gold Medal Project (Deadline extended to 4/1)

I am sorry for the delay everyone.

    Here are the details:

    1) The Michelle Kwan Gold Medal project is a project to show Michelle that we love her even if she does not have an Olympic Gold medal. In fact, we love her enough to show her that she has medals no other skaters have, medals made by her fans.

    2) The medals can be made with any material including construction paper, foam board, and cork board. But, the material should be light weight enough to prevent the costs of shipping the medals from being very high.

    3) The medal can be any color. Although gold often is the most prestigious color, it can be any color from gold to black to red to green to pink to purple. Any color is acceptable.

    4) The medal can be any size smaller than a standard piece of paper.

    5) The medal can be any shape. Several posters have suggested that we make the medals in the shape of a heart, to show Michelle we appreciate her heart for the sport.

    6) The medals should have a ribbion, to further resemble an actual medal.

    7) Medal contributors can also send a short message to Michelle. If you would like to either contribute one or the other, please just give me the heads up.

    8) For the address that the medals and messages should be sent to, please use the contact form on http://www.jamieblanchard.com/contact.html to ask for the address. (Select the "other" option.) When sending the message, please indicate your user name on the MKF or if your just a lurker who loves MK.

Also, if you have a spam filter on your e-mail that does not allow you to get e-mails from AOL members, just let me know and I can PM the address to you.

The postmark deadline for the medals and cards is Saturday, April 1, 2006. I extended the deadline per the request of several posters who had some other things to take care of and wouldn't have been able to participate without an extention.

I love that..a card shower of medals.

    Let's get it going!

Each one should say on it some reason that she's a true champion and a legend of skating.

I will put together a page for the project within the next couple days, if I am unable to do it sometime tonight. Start making your gold medal for Michelle.

The only thing I ask is that the medals are rather light weight. If you are going to use something thats a little heavy, thats ok but lets try not to make the medals 10 lbs each.

And, lets have the medal part no larger than a standard piece of paper. You're free to make the medal with anything you want. And you can make it any shape and any color (though gold is nice).

Want to make a heart of gold? An square of green? A rainbow colored triangle? Fine by me!

I think it's a great idea. I'm crafty! I'll have to start thinking about what I can do

I think she will love this more than anything we could buy.

I think the point of this project should be just to show Michelle how much we still care about her. No matter what medal she's wearing or not wearing, we always think of her as our champion.

You all are welcome to send cards as well. Like I said, I'll post some more information soon.

Glass would be fine, as long as you send it carefully packaged. I can send the box of medals to the rink, which is where we've sent most of her things in the past. (Unless someone else who is in the L.A. area wants to deliver them--but there is no assurence as to win MK will be there.)

I'd love to take part in this. I was thinking, if we each make an individual medal for MK, should we mail them at the same time or separately?

Once I get the website up this week (its just going to be a little information page), there will be more details on this. But heres what I know:

    1. All of the medals should be smaller than the standard 8X10.5 piece of paper.

    2. The medals can be made out of anything you would like. But, remember that its costly to ship heavier items so it might be better to use light weight things such as paper, form board, glitter, plaster, etc.

    3. The medals can be any color. Gold is nice... but the point is that we're gonna love MK no matter what she has or does not have... purple medal, green, blue, orange, thats fine.

    4. The medals should have a ribbion. Even though Michelle won't be wearing them, it would be nice to have a ribbion of some sort of with the medal.

    5. I will collect all of the medals, cards, and whatever else, via snail mail. And I will then send everything to a special forum member who has agreed to hand deliever everything to the rink. (Thanks, you know who you are!)

    6. The deadline will probably be in one month.

Thats great that a forum member will be delivering it (Corbin? ) so that we actually get some feedback from when it is delivered. Awesome. I can't wait to make mine. Im going to Michaels and some craft stores today. This is really a great idea.

Just thought I'd add lets try and keep the messages we send, upbeat and positive.

Yes, lets keep the messages positive. And lets also limit them to the inside of one individual card (per-contributor)... instead of writing all over the cover, the backside, stappling three pages, gluing in a notebook, etc.

Shirley, unlike the medal project of the past, there is no money needed for this project. Everyone is simply designing their own medal, in their own way with all sorts of materials (I've gotten PMs about everything from plaster to glass to cork board).

No money is needed for this project -- except for buying the materials to make your "medal" for our Olympic champ, MK.

I can't wait to find out the details and such!

I'll admit that I am a little behind in getting the information together. But, sometime this coming weekend, all of the information will be straight--even though most of its posted in this thread.

One thing I want to clear up in this thread (instead of through PMs) is that this is not like the medal project a couple seasons ago. It's not a contest to design a medal that we're going to buy Michelle.

We're all making our own "medal," with whatever craft supplies we feel will make a great medal," and then you send them to me (address to be posted later). And I will get the whole package together, put the finishing touches, write a nice card from the MKF, and send it off to the person (a great poster who doesn't want to be identified). The poster will hand deliver it to the EastWest.

I compete in horse shows and climbing comps. Maybe I could do something with all those ribbons I get. (You almost always get some sort of ribbon, not matter how low you place)
