    Dear Michelle,

When I found out this morning that you had withdrawn from the Olympics, I could not stop the tears. But I believe God had a plan for you, bigger than any Olympic gold medal. His plan is what has unfolded throughout the last 10+ years, making you the legend that you are, transcending your sport due to your grace, humility, kindness, and beauty. Thank you so much for all that you have given to figure skating, us fans, the United States, and the world. You have embodied the quote by Confucius, "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." You showed that both after the 1998 and 2002 Olympics. You will always be the greatest figure skater that graced the sport, and your magic will never be forgotten. I pray for your healing and peace; ultimately, your health is the most important thing, and I wish you a long and happy, healthy life whatever you choose to do -- we would love to see you skate once more, but we will be behind you no matter what. Keep listening to your body, and take good care of yourself!

    Love always,
    a.k.a. skates1998

    Dear Michelle,

You have meant so much to me through the years. You are an incredible artist, athlete, and role model. You have been my source of inspiration, my entertainment, my favorite form of art.

I'm so sorry that you did not get to compete in this year's Olympics. Your grace in handling this experience does nothing but enhance your legacy and all you have done for the sport and your fans.

    Thank you for everything!

You are the Kween of all hearts. We are so proud of you for making this decision on your own and knowing what is best you for. You have accomplished more in skating and in life than any Olympic Gold Medal could give you. You will always be America's Gold Medalist. You are the greatest skater to ever hit the ice. Please recover soon and know we are all behind you. You made us all proud

You will ALWAYS be a champion. You are my favorite athlete and I thank you for years of enjoyment watching you skate so beautifully and magically.

You have accomplished so much in your career - much more than a single Olympic gold medal could ever match.

Take care and I hope all of your future dreams come true. We love you!

It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. My heart breaks when I think of all you have had to endure this season. It really isn't fair. But you've taught us that it's not about winning the gold, it's about the process and the spirit of the games. For my own selfish reasons, I'd like to see you in a few more competitions. But if your heart is leading you in other directions, I will support you all the way. You are 100% pure gold in my eyes.

Michelle you are a true legend, and one of the greatest skaters of all time. Don't let the monstrous media get you down, anyone who knows skating values you and loves you. I wish you everything good and happy.

    Default Dear Michelle

    Dear Michelle,

What can I say that hasn't already been written and said by all of your fans and admirers? Probably nothing, but I'm going try.

In your 12 years on the international stage, you have been a model athlete, competitor, champion, and citizen. You have always handled yourself with dignity and class. You have shown the world how to be a gracious winner and how to be gracious when the results did not go your way. You have never complained or made excuses. You always took responsibility for the very few mistakes you made and vowed to work harder. You took time to send out well wishes to others in the skating community when they were ill or injured when many would be focused on their gold medal winning interview.

You are one of the most admired, respected, and loved athletes around. Others look up to you so much that many moves you did were copied. You have moved millions of people to tears with your performances. (My old cat knew who you were and used to wake up from a nap and watch along with me as you skated before going back to sleep.) Many of your fans keep copies of video tapes and bring them out to watch over again when they need their spirits lifted. Fans would be willing to pay just to watch you skate in circles. You are so loved, you could have won the Marshall's competition if you had stood at center ice and read from the phone book.

I know that you are going through some very hard times right now. Take comfort in the fact that your fans are behind you 100% and are praying for your complete recovery. You said yourself that it's OK not to win the gold. In you heart, you need to know that to many of us, you have already won it - many times over. We don't need to see it written in the record books. Your greatness isn't just in the medals you've won. It's in the way you have touched all of our hearts.

My prayers are with you and I hope you heal quickly. You will always be a perfect 6.0 to me.

I am really sad you had to pull out, but I am extremely happy and proud you tried everything you could to be there for us and for you.

If my MD career turns out to be at least 5% of your FS career I would be very proud of myself as well. Maybe itís time to check out, maybe itís not. Be aware you have reached so many hearts in the world like few others athletes had.

I wish I could give you a hug, as this is quite impossible since I am thousands of miles away, I am sending you all my love.

    My dear Michelle,
My heart is breaking for you. I know how much you wanted that Olympic gold. More than anything I want you to know that having or not having that gold doesn't change the way your fans feel about you. It doesn't change what you have accomplished in this sport. Someone very wise once said, "remember your successes." Your worth is not measured in medals, it is measured by your wonderful character.
I am so proud of you. You have handled every one of your Olypmpic experiences with grace, class and dignity. You are the true embodiement of the Olympic spirit and I couldn't admire you more.

    Dear Michelle,

I remember in 1994, when Kurt Browning once again didn't have the Olympics he had hoped for, he said someone sent a fax to his hotel -- it was two big arms, giving him a hug. In this virtual world now, I hope you feel the hug I am sending your way.

I am so proud of you -- for all you've accomplished, and for all your grace and dignity in going through the most difficult periods of your life. You are one amazing woman. Thank you for all you are, and for all you've given me through the years.

I wish I could take away your pain and carry it on my own shoulders. Just know that win, lose, or draw, you are always a champion.

You are a true champion and a class act. You truly embody what the Olympics is all about -- courage, strength, and passion.

You are simply AMAZING! One of a kind!

(One more thing, please come out swinging next year and grab that 10th National title. )

    We love you.

    Dear Michelle,

I remember watching you on television in 1997, don't really remember what competition it was but there always was something about you that caught my attention. Over the years, I tried catching certain events on tv, from the nationals to the worlds. I loved that you showed emotion and you left it there on the ice.

I think what you really should know is the effect you have on all of us from die-hard fans of yours to casual fans.

In my mind and the minds of others, the skating world has no idea how lucky they are to experience the many years of watching you skate.

I'm one of them and I thank you for letting all of us grow up with you.

    Always your fan,
