    Dear Michelle,

You’ve taken me on a journey that has been legendary and I’m sure is not over yet. I’ve been watching you for twelve whole years. Never in my life have I been more proud to be your fan. Throughout all of the most difficult moments of your career you have perfectly exemplified what being an Olympian truly means. You are the definition of the Olympic spirit. In times when you should have protested you have remained poised in perfect grace and astonishing humility.

You’ve done more than some people could ever do in many lifetimes. You’ve been a gift to everyone for all time. You’ve been our best friend. You’ve been our sister. You’ve been the beacon of light that has given birth to the hopes and dreams of generations to come. The story of Michelle Wing Kwan will be the most epic and captivating ever told… the best of Scheherazade’s tales. However, I believe we’ll walk in Fields of Gold once more… that your journey cannot yet be complete.

My heart aches for you. Seeing you in such obvious pain tears me apart. It is the most devastating thing to have to give up on a dream (or maybe just to wait a little longer… 2010 isn’t that far away * big cheesy grin*) I selfishly wanted so much for you to have the two best skates of your career in Torino... to finally have that gold medal… but you are PERFECT without it. It is a sore spot to have to settle without the gold, but you cannot and should not be defined by it.

Above all I wish for you to keep doing what you’ve been doing. Listen to your body, do what you know is right. Don’t let the selfish wishes of us fans cloud your judgment… don’t let the harsh and uninformed media tear you down… and most of all, do not be too hard on yourself. Look ahead to the possibilities, even outside of figure skating. No matter what you do, just remember that we’ll forever be right here with you. You make us proud.

I love you. We love you. Get healthy, stay strong, be yourself and have fun!

*Biggest hugs to you and your amazing family!!*

    Heart get well soon, Michelle

Michelle, I am praying for your continued recovery from these pesky little(big) physical injuries and emotional upsets.....I know how I am feeling now and knowing how you must feel 100 times worse - just breaks my heart. But you know what? You are bigger than the Olympics, especially today with your gracious withdrawal. My husband came in to find me crying at the computer watching a clip of you talking to Bob Costas and Scott Hamilton....and said once again what a classy young lady you are! And he's so right. Just when I think I have loved you enough, I find there is more room in my heart to love you more! Get well soon, Michelle. You will always be a champion to all of us here at MKF. May God be with you.

    Love,
    Deb

    Dear Michelle,

Thank you for giving so much to figure skating. You are so beauiful to watch and made me fell in love with this sport. You don't need any Olympic gold medal to prove that you're the best because simply you already is, although you are worthy of one. Hope you get a speedy recovery. You are a wonderful, amazing, beautiful, graceful, class-act person. Get well soon Michelle! All the best to you in whatever you want to do in the future. I will always behind you. I LOVE YOU Michelle!!!

    Dear Michelle,

I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery!!! You have and will always be my favorite figure skater! No one has ever touch their sport the way you have. I have followed you since you were 13. Even then, i was very young, only 12, and was still touched by your special gift! These olympics are a true triumph to your will power! Regardless of your withdrawl or of what you will achieve from here on out, I want you to know that you have NEVER disappointed me nor any of your fans! We love you as one of our own family members! You have been my sister for well over a decade and I thank you for all the wonderful memories you have etched upon our hearts! Take a rest, you deserve one! And if you still have that competitive fire within your heart and belly, FOLLOW IT! No one is EVER too old to acheive their dreams, no matter how big or small they may be!!! Heck, even if you are 60 and can still lace up skates, DO IT! I guarantee the MKF loyalist will still travel thousands of miles to see their Kween of Hearts!

We Love You Michelle! And keep being that special person we have grown to love!

Erie Rivera aka Disciple of Kwan!!!

PS - see you in 2007 Nationals! You know that crown is screaming for its Kween!

    Michelle,
My respect for you just continues to skyrocket. You handle everything the world throws your way with grace and dignity. We, as fans, have been so lucky to get to witness your career. We have seen you go from a young jumping bean to a graceful young woman. Your medals speak for themselves, but you have given so much more than medals. You have given us some of the most incredible, memorable performances in skating history. Most athletes can only dream of leaving a small mark on their sport. You have left a giant print on figure skating. You have brought in millions of skating fans and inspired a generation of young skaters. You have shown us what figure skating should be about. Grace, power, and beauty. Whatever you choose to do in the future, you will have the support of millions.
Thank you for all you've done for your sport.

Just wanted you to know how much you have shown the world "True Olympic Spirit". I doubt that I can say anything very meaningful right now but my heart aches with you and I love you. Your skating has always moved me and your every move on the ice told your inner feelings. Thank you for such a blessing to us all! Whatever your next move is whether on or off the ice we are behind you and we truly care.

    Michelle:

Thank you so much for sharing your love of skating with us and the world. I feel truly blessed to have watched you grow up from that little 13 year old to the courageous, gracious, classy and beautiful woman that you have become. None of us can even begin to image how you are feeling (even though we think we can) but rest assure that our hearts and prayers go out to you.

    Dear Michelle,

You have and always will make your country proud.

Seeing you go through so much this year has put me in such pain. However, through it all, you have never ceased to be such a wonderful sportswoman, and are such an asset to figure skating and to the United States.

I remember watching you as a 13 year old at 1994 Worlds, and being so taken by your grace, youth, and determination. In 1996, I was mesmerized by your transformation into a mature artist on the ice. I said to myself, "If Michelle Kwan can accomplish great things at so young an age, so can I." Years later, I've seen you capture World and National titles, and handle defeats with such honest dignity. I've seen you face adversity and come through them smiling. You've encouraged me to try to live my life without regrets, and to always look to the future because it is very bright. You continue to be an inspiration to me every day.

Your legacy to your sport, to your country, will be remembered for years to come. I am so honored and proud to be a fan of yours.

Take care, and I wish you all the very best in the world.
I will always be on your side.

    Love,
    Dan

    Heart

    Michelle,
I have been following your career since 1995, and saw you live in Washington DC. You skated to East of Eden, and it was so incredibly beautiful. You gave me, and countless others countless moment of pure joy and incredible artistry. Of course nothing in this world is easy, and to reach the level of performance you did, you had to push yourself to the edge of what's humanly possible. You are hurting right now, but you will get better, and I wish you healing in the first place, and then making the best decision about your future. Do not let anybody tell you you are too (old, old fashioned, not COP ready, etc.) to continue skating. You love it, and so many of us love your skating, and I certainly hope you will continue - wheter going for another Olympics, Worlds, Nationals, or in another way - I hope to see you on the ice again, and taking charge of your career and your future with your beautiful smile. Thanks for everything, love, Joanna

Michelle, there is a Native American proverb that says, "When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world will cry and you will rejoice."

Your life so far has been lived in a way that epitomizes this proverb. The world has rejoiced year after year, not just because of your glorious skating but because of your impeccable sportsmanship and love of and respect for the sport and your tremendous character. I have no doubt that you will continue to live the many many years ahead in a way that will bring you, your family, and the world much more rejoicing. The world is crying with you now for your disappointment, and will cry even more when you finally hang up your skates, if you ever do (hopefully decades from now!). But the world will forever be changed for the better because you skated into it.

    Michelle,
I didn't think it was possible for me to be any bigger of a fan of yours until now. I am so very sorry for your injury and withdrawl but at the same time I am so proud of you and your gracefulness as you handle this difficult situation. I think there should be 4 medals given out at the Olympics. Gold, Silver, Bronze and the highest honor even above the Gold should be the "Michelle Kwan Medal." I've come to the conclusion that you are better than Gold!
My prayers and support will continue for you!
May God continue to richly bless you in the days ahead.
    Your forever fan,
    Tammi

    Michelle,

Never have I been so proud to be an American, a fan of figure skating, and a fan of yours. You are courageous, honest, and true. You have more integrity than anyone I know. You have been a leader in the sport of figure skating for so long, and you demonstrated your exquisite leadership with your difficult decision in Torino. You are right-- it is about the sport and it is about the Olympics. But to me, personally, it is about you. Your grace, talent, and accomplishments inspire me every day. I am sending positive vibes your way for a full recovery. Take some time, be with family, and get healthy! And then, get back on the ice and start preparing to win that tenth national title in 2007! :-)

    Love and hugs,
    Ben

    Dear Michelle,
My heart breaks at the thought of the pain and disappointment you've experienced in withdrawing from the Olympics. But it also swells with pride at the courage, sportsmanship and dignity you've shown in making it.

    Dear Michelle,
My heart went out to you when I found out you withdrew from the Olympics. I know it must have pained you to make the decision, and I sincerely admire your dignity and class. Thank you for bringing me 12 years of wonderful skating. Your skating and character have captivated me time and time again, bringing endless squeals and tears of joy. Dear Michelle,

You have given so much to this sport and for that I thank you. I would have never watched figure skating, until one day in 1996 I turned the tv on and saw you for the first time perform to "Salome". Since that day I knew I would be a "Kwanfan4ever" I have a 8x10 photo of you (professionally taken at Nationals in Atlanta in 2004) hanging in my cubicle at work.

This morning when I tuned in and watched your withdrawl from Turino, I cried for you and the pain you must feel in your heart right now. I just want you to get better soon!!! I truly hope there will be more of your beautiful skating ahead for all to see.

You are the best, and this sport will never be the same without your beauty and grace, don't ever forget that!!!!!!! Love, ML LEY

    Heart Thank you Michelle

    Michelle,

I'm sorry that you had to abandon your dream of winning Olympic gold. That was probably the hardest decision you have had to make, but I admire your courage and your respect for the Olympics games to make your decision as you did. I hope that you enjoy being in Italy, and hopefully you will stay and soak up the whole experience. I'm sorry that you won't get gold, but you already know that you don't need a gold medal to be the best. You are the best simply by who you are (not to mention all those other championships that no one is even close to touching! )

I hope that you take the time you need to heal completely. You have accomplished so much and no one will ever be able to take that away from you. You have touched so many people and you don't need a gold medal to tell you that you are the best. You have done so much for the sport of figure skating and you will forever be a legend. The sport is changing so rapidly (and not for the better). You have transcended figure skating: you are an figure skating icon.

I don't know what you plan to do after this. Whether you go pro, or stay in for four more years, I want you to know that you are the most magical person to ever grace the ice and I have enjoyed watching you. I hope that you do Champions On Ice this year. I came last year and I enjoyed the show. The only way I buy a ticket is if you will be here in Atlanta.

Thank you so much Michelle. Win, lose, draw or withdraw, you are the most amazing person there is and your fans will always love and support you!

    Michelle,

Your skating has brought so much happiness and joy to not only me, but millions of others. I am sad to see withdraw but you do so with grace and beauty. As millions watched we all felt your pain and want so badly for you to be okay.

I have watched you throughout your career and admired you, your strenght, and your grace. Thank you for what you have broght to figure skating, thank you for what you have brought to the world, and thank you for the joy you have brought to me.

Many of us here are teachers, I myself am a student teacher. I have used you as an example so many times in my short time in front of the class and I know on Monday I will be going back to a bunch of 7th graders who are sad for you as well! This is a group of wonderful children who never cared about figure skating until I showed them what you have done and then they saw how wonderful it is!

Your skating can relate to off ice lessons about respect, kindess, toughness, willingness and just plain ol' working hard. You are a wonderful skater but more importantly you are a wonderful person and that will be with you forever. That is why we love you so much and respect everything you do.

Thank you and I am wishing you a speedy recovery. I will always be a fan of yours!

    Dear Michelle,

My heart goes out to you and I pray for your recovery. Seeing you skate is always such a wonderful and beautiful experience. The United States couldn't have asked for a better athlete to represent them for the last three Olympics, and like you said, representing your country is an honor in itself. You made a brave decision and I admire you for it. Throughout these last few months, you have carried yourself with grace and elegance that no one else can match. You truly are a champion. And don't think about tomorrow or the day after. Just focus on getting better and everyone here at MKF looks forward to seeing you skate again. And who knows? Maybe you'll be at the Olympics again. So, remember, just keep on flying.

    Love always,

    Dear Michelle

I really don't know what to say. You've changed the sport of figure skating, you've inspired so many, and you've helped me through so many hard times. Thank you so much.

Stay strong, and rest assured that you have millions of fans hugging you right now.

I hate asking you for anything after all you have given us all ready, but I just have one request. Please, please, please don't disapear. I hope you stay involved in skating for ever, but even if you don't, please stay visible. I really don't know who I can watch and cheer for other then you. I've loved skating since before you came around, and I'll continue to love it, but it will NEVER be the same.

I'm going to stop rambling now.

    We love you so much.
