Nice commercial with Dan Jannsen. MK's good omen :-)

I can't stay up any longer...good night, everyone!!
I thought I heard him say: "This is her 3rd Olympics. Some say not her last"...but it's hard to tell with the crowd screamin' like that

I left my blank tape in the tape recorder so I can watch the rest of the show either tomorrow or Sunday. My stinking mother sleeps downstairs and she wants the tv off.

*sigh* So I'll just have to follow what you guys see....and be sure to offer DETAILS, especially the KWEEN ones

Watching these opening ceremonies on TV they explain what the dances and that mean, what do you think goes through the minds of the people there or the athletes watching some of this stuff. The first bit of it was really different and I wouldn't have figured out that the one thing the guy was hitting was "passion" and those people with the fire on their backs were the "sparks of passion." Oh well. Michelle looked so happy! I thought that it was cool that John had lifted Rena up into the air.

I thought it was pretty cheezy for I/B to do that at the Opening Ceremony but, thank goodness the camera didn't pan on it for too long. I LOOOOOOVED how they showed Michelle so much

Didn't Kimmie walk in the Opening Ceremonies as well??

Kimmie was there. For the first half I was like what the heck is going on? Couldn't understand all the stuff they had going and what it meant. Thank God for Bob because I was Kwanfused. And what was up with the music? Retro 80's and then bam! Italian for the Italians. It was kinda odd and funny in a way. Overall not the best cermonies I've watched. Some cool parts and then some odd parts. Loved seeing Michelle and that they showed her so much as well. She looks so awesome. Relaxed and calm.

I'm glad I popped in here - I thought it was just me. It reminded me of the cheesy Orange Bowl half time extravaganzas - everything but the kitchen sink! I expected something very avant garde and sleek - coming from the Italians. There was so little - hmmmm - grandeur? It seemed to have no theme - just a cast of thousands doing things that didn't make sense. Anyway, I'm relieved that others were a little underwhelmed as well.

Michelle did look gorgeous and happy!

I thought the political commentary about international politics was tasteless - could they just shut up!! I can't stand Costas on a good day - and this was one of his darker moments.

    Good night!!

The music....the music. That's all I took away from the OCs (other than seeing Michelle, and the cool way the torch was lit.)

I said to my mom, I wonder if they give the audience a cheat sheet or something!

Personally, I LOVE the music...!!! It's a heaven for 80's music lovers

I also love the fact that they play a different music for each country (almost). Very cool.

The music cracked me up. I am undecided whether the lift I/B did when they were marching was cheesy or cute. I didn't like the Italian team jackets but Carolina looked great so proud. The lighting of the torch was spectacular and Pavoratti was great to close the show.

    Thumbsup

I watched the whole thing, and enjoyed it. The downhill trials were interesting, and I'm glad they showed 'em. The only possible negative was the constant use of 1980s American music. Why didn't they use Italian music? Oh well ...

It was great seeing MK, of course, and I enjoyed seeing Caro Kostner with the Italian flag. Looked like she was having fun. And they showed Fleur Maxwell with the Luxembourgish flag, too. I remember her from my visit to the rink at Remich in 2002, when she was trying out for Jr Worlds. Nice kid.

Pavarotti made up for the odd things in the ceremony, but I loved it overall. The peace dove was especially cool

Default This article had me laughing this morning

    From the L.A. Times:

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/olympi...lympics-center

Honestly, I *like* disco music (it's my age--I can't help it--fun memories) but sheesh, it did not belong in an Olympic OC, IMHO. Couldn't they have found something more Olympian, or more Italian, or more Alpine? Yuck! It was embarrassing.

I didn't like the OC much at all. I found the whole thing kind of boring. I was having trouble keeping focused on the event (but that's good, in a way, because I graded all of my finals for my Winter class at the same time--yeah for multitasking!). For me the highlight was Michelle, of course, and...well...that's about it. I guess Sophia Loren was kinda cool, too.

The music they walked in to was fun, but reminded me more of a closing ceremony "woohoo!" party music time
