MKM - Rohene Ward :)

OK. I just got home from a gay bar I frequent in Minneapolis. It's gay pride weekend so of course it was packed. I was about to leave, and all of a sudden I saw someone who looked familiar! It was Rohene.

I walked up to him all dumb like and asked, "Are you Rohene Ward?", and he said yes!!!!! I went on for a few minutes talking about how amazing he is, and he was truly sweet and genuine about the attention.

Anyways, on to Michelle...........he was with a few friends. I said, "You guys know how amazing Rohene is right?"......and his friend was like, "I don't really follow skating..."........I just gasped! It's like....um, Rohene can land quad-tripole combo's!..........but yes...skating is a small world...hard to remember that sometimes....anywho.....his friend said, "I hate Tara Lipinski...but LOVE Michelle Kwan"....at which point Rohene said, "Michelle is the best!"......and then I showed them my Michelle bracelet! It was great!

So now I feel stupid, for gushing over him...but oh well! He is truly one of the most amazing male skaters.......if he could hold it together in competition it would be amazing! Rudy at home in '96, Rohene at home in '08?.........

So yes....another top level skater in awe of Michelle. Nothing new these days!

And I met Rohene! ...........only thing better would be meeting Michelle.....

That's such a great story, thanks for sharing. I've really admired Rohene since I first saw him skate on t.v. If he could ever put it together, he would be a contender, for sure. I've also thought the same thing about what Rudy did at home and that next year, nats will basically be at Rohene's home. I knew he would be like you said in person, down to earth, a real person.

well, he'd better be real! ;-) we can only have one Sandhu in this world - all of the talent in the world but lacking the ability to hold it together.

that said, if he holds it together, he can win Nationals, easily. i wish him best.

That's great that you got to meet Rohene and so great that he and his friend are admirers of Michelle! I too would like to see Ward put it together at a major event like Nationals and finally ARRIVE. He is SO TALENTED!

I remember sitting behind Johnny Weir prior to the SP at the 2004 Nationals in Atlanta at a practice rink in preparation for the SP and Rohene Ward was standing next to him chatting and they seemed really chummy. Silly me had no idea who they were, no idea at all that I was sitting behind Weir, who would go on to win 3 US titles, and behind such a talented skater as Ward. It wasn't until after the competition had begun that I was able to place the skater with the name. All we shared at that practice rink were glances and smiles at one another . . . wish I could have known them at the time and actually gotten autographs.

Lucky you to get to meet Roehne. He has always been a favorite of mine. The way he moves on the ice really impresses me. I agree with graciesfriend I'd love to see him anywhere.

People are very fortunate now a days arn't they? They get to meet celebs. I never met any celebs. Welll, I met Mr. & Mrs. Kwan...lol. Donny, ur story is cool and have u met Rohene. I read about him in Skating Magazine today too....lol, old one....

He said he was really focused on doing well at Nats next season.....I too was shocked that he didn't even qualify this year. Keep fingers crossed!
