Dear MKF,

We always say it, but itís always true: this year has gone so fast! Since my last post there has been a lot of changes. One of the biggest changes is my move to Washington DC after graduating from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts. I absolutely love living in our countryís capital Ė thereís constantly exciting things happening in DC. It also feels like a home away from home since many of my friends that studied International Relations both at the University of Denver and at the Fletcher School moved to the area.

Iím excited for Christmas and the coming New Year. Traditionally, our family waits till Christmas day to open presents, however, after last week I feel that Iíve already opened all my gifts. The first present that Santa gave me was a visit from Karen (my sis) and her daughters (Olivia and Sophia) to DC. We went to a variety of places, including: National Museum of Natural History, National Archives, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, National Gallery of Art Sculpture and Garden, and even a private tour of the White House. Although Olivia and Sophia loved sightseeing, their favorite activity was skating on the outdoor ice rink in the National Mall (maybe skating is in their genes! : )

Another cool gift I got from Santa was an invitation to the White House for a holiday party. It was nice to see the White House decorated with such a multitude of holiday festivities, and the best part was getting a chance to wish the President and First Lady a Merry Christmas!

This year has been full of new and exciting things Ė I can only wonder what 2012 will bring. As some of you may know, I will be inducted to the Skating Hall of Fame in January. I canít imagine a more remarkable way to bring in the New Year than a big celebration with my family and friends around as I get inducted into the Hall of Fame. San Jose has special significance to me since itís the place that I won my first national title Ė and soon it will come full circle, as it will be the place that I get inducted to the Hall of Fame.

I hope that I get a chance to say hello to some of you in San Jose, but if I donít, I hope that you all have an amazing New Year.

Wishing MKF a wonderful holiday season!!

XO,

Michelle Kwan

Hi Michelle!!

So nice to hear from you!! We miss you so much here at MKF!! I also moved to Washington DC recently to study medicine. I am currently in Captiol Hill and still trying to learn how to get around with the Metro! I find DC to be a great place to live and I hope you are enjoying it too. I havent seen the White House yet but I sure plan to!

Congratulations for Hall of Fame induction! I still remember watching you win your first nationals and world title when I was 12. I have been a great fan ever since. You were my role model growing up and continue to be a great example!! I am so happy for you and I plan to attend the ceremony in San Jose. Really looking forward to meeting you again. Hopefully I can catch a flight from DC to San Jose that day!

Happy holidays to you and your family!!

Dear Michelle,

Happy Holidays!
Thank you for your warm message and kind wishes.*
When I think of the pictures I have seen of you and Karen, as young girls, and then when I imagine you, Karen, Olivia and Sophia all together, I get a sense of the phrase that you often use, "coming full circle." * *
It seems to be a characteristic of lives. But, it does not surprise me much, because, in a sense, even though we may travel the globe, in some ways, we have not really gone anywhere; we are still our selves and always will be.
Similarly, wherever the future leads you, you will always be "Our Own."

With countless best wishes and unmeasurable affection,

Dearest Michelle,

You've been the sole member of my own Hall of Fame for years...nice USFSA has caught up ;). The immeasurable joy you have bestowed on me with your skating through the years is cherished at this special moment. And at the same time I look forward to the future and what wonderful things it may bring you. You are such a remarkable person...so brave, so dedicated, so intelligent...well beyond just skating. Thank you for your warm greeting and update on your life.

I will see you in San Jose as we recall the past and anticipate the future. Congratulations! And a very, very Merry Christmas!

Congratulations on being inducted into the HOF, and congratulations on your continued accomplishments. You continue to inspire many, including me.

I hope 2012 is full of continued successes both personally and professionally. And what a great way to kick-off the year than to go to San Jose to be inducted into the HOF in the spot where you started it all with the first of many national titles, and many more prefect performances :)

Happy holidays!

As always. it is a pleasure to receive your personal "update".
Your happiness is evident!

It is wonderful to follow your progress as you discover your next "arena", wherever that may be.
May the journey bring you the same joy which you have given to so many others.

I hope to be a part of the cheering throng in San Jose, as you are "officially" inducted into the Hall of Fame.
You have been part of my personal "pantheon" for many years, though!
I've always been proud to support you.

Wishing you only the best that life can give in the year ahead.

There are so many things to appreciate about you, it is impossible to know where to start, so I will pick just one: your grace.

You have shown us your grace under pressure and fire on some of the biggest stages in the world and a hundred times over to be sure. But your graciousness towards your fans is unparalleled by any public figure I know.

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit and share such warm greetings with us, year after year, after year.

Wishing you and yours the Merriest Christmas and Happiest New Year Ever! --GinnySmith

Thanks for stopping by the Forum once again, Michelle, and here's to a very Merry Christmas to you and your family. The new year will indeed be a happy one for your fans who will see you (some in person, some on tv like me) inducted in the US Figure Skating HOF. You so deserve it, and I wish I could be there with my other MKF friends to celebrate with you, but my heart will indeed be there.

Besides your post as being a special Christmas present to me, I had another one a few weeks ago when my grandaughter, Olivia, visited me from Boston. I wanted to introduce her to figure skating and to your skating in particular. I pulled up your Nats 1996 Salome (in San Jose) on my laptop, and we watched the entire 4 minutes together - she was enthralled - and she's only 2 1/2!!! Here's hoping she starts taking skating lessons soon! You definitely are an inspiration to so many people!

Best Wishes,

Two tasks:

1. Add to your studies the ocncept of "learned helplessness," beginning with Martin Seligman. The insight provided is invaluable.

2. Write an in-depth autobiography of your skating years before you forget!

2. Write an in-depth autobiography of your skating years before you forget!

I have also often thought that it's time for a book from Michelle. As she obviously has moved on to a different type of life, other than skating, she could name it "My Life - Part I". Well just a suggestion - she could, no doubt, come up with something better. I certainly think it would sell - I think her appeal goes beyond just the "skating world" or just skating fans.

There so many things that she could cover in her book and so many people that could contribute to it, also. Parents, coaches, judges, commentators, even fans. If she hasn't wrote down a lot of what happened with her career over the years, their comments will spark memories in her. Yes, she should write a book before she forgets.

Looking forward to seeing her post this year - and maybe telling us that a book is in the works! Although this isn't the thread, I'll just say it here anyway - a big congratulations to Michelle on her upcoming marriage.
