January 17th, 2000, 01:00 PM
I have no doubt that Michelle Kwan fans come from far and wide--all over the world. Beth2000-Texas is a big state. I haven't seen much of it. I am a transplanted Californian. I moved here very recently. I have never been to Georgia. Although, I am much closer now. I would love to travel through the southern states. If anyone wants to have a live, Michelle Kwan, chat, let me know.

Ithaca, NY, usually (motto: "Ithaca is Gorges"), but I'm spending the academic year in New Haven, CT.

January 17th, 2000, 01:35 PM
New Jersey...Hey, Calum, did you ever hear of Professor Robin Williams from Ithaca college and Cornell University? He is published and I use his work in class. I also taught with his son...Robin Williams III, who is deceased.....

January 17th, 2000, 01:41 PM
Origionally from the Bay Area, CA. Go to school down south (still in CA).

January 17th, 2000, 01:49 PM
There's a Robin M. Williams, Jr., in the Sociology Department at Cornell. If his son was Robin Williams III, then it sure sounds like the father. He's now retired, though (professor emeritus). Unfortunately, I don't know him personally.

January 17th, 2000, 01:49 PM
....in Seattle, Washington.

January 17th, 2000, 01:58 PM

January 17th, 2000, 02:02 PM
It is near San Jose...Yep, Silcon Valley!

January 17th, 2000, 02:11 PM
SKParker, the State of Georgia is beautiful. My husband and I moved from Detroit, Michigan to come down here to the warmth and so that my husband could start his own computer business! It was a little bit harder in Michigan to do that!

January 17th, 2000, 02:14 PM
Falls Church, VA, about 10 miles from the White House. Keith

January 17th, 2000, 02:14 PM
Hey Mano, a thumbs up for you for letting me know that the 7 train was for John Rocker! You know that I wasn't happy when the yankees beat us, but that is a whole another subject! They are still good baseball teams!

January 17th, 2000, 02:31 PM
skateobesessed21 that is so cool. We have a friend that owns a ranch out there. She use to give riding lessons, but I don't know if she still does. I believe the name of her ranch is, oh man I just had it at the tip of my tongue and now its gone(the train has left the station) Anyways, if you are interested in riding horses her name is Joanne Casmo. She is a really nice person.

January 17th, 2000, 02:40 PM
I'm oringally from Southern California. I moved alot when I was little so declaring a specific town "home" doesn't seem fair. I moved around between San Diego and Ojai, which is south of Santa Barbara. I now live in Rocky Hill, Connecticut which is south of Hartford. I've lived here for 17 years now and am just now beginning to think that moving back to California might be something I'd like to do. So far I've called 53 places "home" so I guess another move wouldn't really matter much.

January 17th, 2000, 03:13 PM

January 17th, 2000, 03:37 PM
In Richmond, to be precise. Figure skating, which was non-existent here ten years ago, is really up-and-coming. The Czech(?) skater Zagorudiuk (sp?) trained here recently - don't know if he still does. Nicole Bobek was here in the fall of '98 to train, but she didn't stay long! Too square for her, I guess!

January 17th, 2000, 03:40 PM
I grew up in the Bay Area and have lived in So. Cal for 16 years!

January 17th, 2000, 03:44 PM
I'm going to Nationals 2002 at the Staple Center, I don't care how much money I have to spend. It's only 20 miles from my house. I wanted to go to SLC, but I thought this would be more practical, and maybe even more fun! Single event tickets don't go on sale until Aug. '02. Who's going? We should all meet! It's not really that far away.

January 17th, 2000, 04:13 PM
not a bad idea...i totally wanna go...but i dunno if i can...anyhoo, i live in orange county...home to disneyland, the mighty ducks, the angels, and knott's berry farm!

January 17th, 2000, 04:28 PM
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!!!! I thought Jarrett and I were pretty much it for the Texas contingent. Boy, was I wrong! I'm from Wichita Falls (yes, we have one) but I attend college (goda skool for you Texans) in Waco. WAY-co, not that other oh-so-charming pronounciation ;-)

January 17th, 2000, 04:37 PM
but I've lived in VA since I was 3 years old. For the last 15-16 years I've lived in Chesapeake, VA which is about 30 minutes from the VA/NC state line.

January 17th, 2000, 04:45 PM
Orlando, Florida--nearly the last place in the country to live if you want to see decent skating...

January 17th, 2000, 04:59 PM
Jordanna.. totally agree w/ you it is so tough to attend any decent skating shows/comp. in Fl. much less find anybody that even likes figure skating. This is my only outlet. Did u attend the Keri Lotion competition held in Orlando last Oct?

January 17th, 2000, 05:17 PM
I'm from San Antonio, TX....where Michelle won the '93 olympic festival.

January 17th, 2000, 05:20 PM

January 17th, 2000, 05:30 PM
I live in a teeny tiny town in the small state of N.H. Miles away from everything.

January 17th, 2000, 05:36 PM
Munchkin -- you live in Henderson? How cool. Have you ever eaten at The Jalepeno Tree? Every time I drive through Henderson on the way to Tyler I've wanted to stop and eat there. Tell me how it is. Beth -- If I ever find time to go horseback riding, I'll look up your friend :-)

January 17th, 2000, 05:56 PM
Born, raised and still live in Santa Rosa, CA which is north of San Francisco and home of recently retired Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schultz and his Redwood Empire Ice Arena, and next door to wine country. That's about our only claims to fame. Suzanne

January 17th, 2000, 07:02 PM
Rene, I go to school in San Diego, and I was wondering where Staples Center is?? I'll still be in school in 2002 (looks like I'm doing the 5 year plan), so I would LOVE to go to Nationals in 2002. Oh, and Rene is my middle name...except I spell it Renee.

January 17th, 2000, 07:04 PM
I live in Baltimore, MD - charm city. Jarrett, I thiought Texas City is the #1 polluted city in the U.S.

January 17th, 2000, 07:09 PM
Hey Maeve, my brother lives in Wichita Falls, he even went to Midwestern State (for a while, at least!). I live just north of Dallas/Ft. Worth. I have plans to attend 2002 national's, too! Then in 2003 they will be in Dallas - yipeeeeee!

January 17th, 2000, 07:09 PM
Wisconsin--yes, that's right. I live in a small town (although the local newscast like to refer it as a metropolitan :D) called Eau Claire. Heard of it? If you are a diary farmer, you might, because the price of milk is actually determined by the distance between your farm and Eau Claire.

January 17th, 2000, 09:13 PM
Lindy3: The Staples Center is in Downtown LA. The new home of the LA lakers. It's supposed to be very nice inside and the area is really cleaned up, not scary. Hey, I even know how to get there because my husband works right by there. GUESS WHAT: Rene is my middle name too!!!!!! I can't put my real name on here very often because my son and husband are just dying to know my name and password so they can glow in their own evil! My name was supposed to be Renee but the hospital spelled it wrong on my birth certificate, I thought it was cool so I just kept it.

i grew up in indiana, went to college in beantown (boston, ma for those of you who aren't sure), been here since, but am definitely going back to indy. for those of you from texas, i lived in san antonio for 2 years and met my best friend there. it's a great state, but really big! :)

January 18th, 2000, 07:03 AM
It's nice to see that so many of you live in the South. I wish there was some Alabama representation, because it is lonely for a skating fan in such a football-obsessed state. I live in the Montgomery area. I grew up in the Midwest (Missouri and Illinois) and lived in South Carolina for many years.

January 18th, 2000, 07:11 AM
Add one more to the Florida count! I live in Polk County but work near Orlando. You'd actually be surprised at the amount of skating in the state -- did you know that Florida has its own skating clubs website (www.floridaskating.com)? There are actually quite a large number of participant skaters in the State....I even think some of the intermediate and novice level pairs skaters out of Florida have either medaled or done quite well at Regionals and Sectionals. I am competing in Bronze at the CFL USFSA Challenge and I think there will be at least 6 other adults in just my group. There seem to be a lot of skating fans, at least in my area, too -- I go to SOI and COI every year and they're pretty packed.

January 18th, 2000, 07:25 AM

I am from Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It is the home of Little League baseball. It is a beautiful town which is very rich in culture and History. Have any of you been he for the Little League World Series?

January 18th, 2000, 08:51 AM
I knew that I was the only one in chicago. No wonder I can't find any friends who are skating fans here. I need to move to a state where it's figure skating friendly.

January 18th, 2000, 08:56 AM
Camarillo, California! Southern California ROCKS!!!!!

January 18th, 2000, 09:11 AM
I'm from Malaysia.... but I'm currently studying in Wisconsin. I only get to watch ice skating during Winter Olympics in my country ( and it's broadcast at like 1.00am). Learnt about Michele Kwan in Times magazine and thought that she was the most beautiful skater I've seen. Are there any other ppl from different countries on this board?

January 18th, 2000, 09:17 AM
I'm originally from Seoul, S. Korea, but I'm now living in Willowdale, Ontario, Canada. :0)

January 18th, 2000, 09:30 AM
Rene - I am planning on going and have already purchased tickets for the exhibition (judges section!). I'm not sure how much time I will have so I haven't committed to event tickets yet. I live in Redondo Beach, CA.

January 18th, 2000, 09:32 AM
Westchester County, New York. It's a suburb of NYC (only 15 minutes away). I work at an advertising agency in Manhattan.

January 18th, 2000, 09:59 AM
originally from Trinidad. Late twenties, like my job but too stressful at times. May not be too many skating fans down here but last year at COI MK was the only one to get a standng ( however small ) ovation. It as at Sunrise, aries, did you go?

January 18th, 2000, 10:03 AM
My ex roomate comes from Pusan, S Korea. She lives 2 floors below me now but we still hang out alot. Please to meet ya! :-)

January 18th, 2000, 11:45 AM
im from new jersey in ocean county right by the ocean :)

January 18th, 2000, 12:40 PM
I attended the Coi in Miami arena, could'nt make it to Sunrise though :( I took so many pictures of Michelle that I hardly got to enjoy her performance! Next time I'll have my friend take the pictures...I have a very close friend that is from Trinidad, he lives in Ft. Lauderdale.

January 18th, 2000, 02:02 PM
Showzi- my cousin is attending college in Eau Claire.

January 18th, 2000, 02:28 PM
I live in a small town in the state of West Virginia. Any other Mountaineers out there?

January 18th, 2000, 03:01 PM
New York! I can't believe there are only what two or three of us, Mano?

January 18th, 2000, 04:00 PM
Aries2, of course I was at the Keri! That's where I met my Todd. :-) AEHodman, I didn't mean participant skating or tours, I meant REAL skating! Good competitions! I am looking at learning to skate (i.e. move around on the ice without falling down) though. Ever go to the RDV Sportsplex? We should meet up sometime.

January 18th, 2000, 04:06 PM
I live in Maine, a town that would away from almost everything. Not to mention we just had a big snow storm, and it is freezing up here. Thanks Cherie for your tape. I really appreciate it.

January 18th, 2000, 04:20 PM
Looks like I'm the only one though *sigh* oh well.

January 18th, 2000, 04:39 PM
Make that 3 or 4 from New York! I'm from Long Island (Huntington to be exact), NY =)

January 18th, 2000, 04:46 PM
JENNIS-- I was raised in West Virginia, so I'm a mountaineer at heart :). All of my family still lives in WV, in Keyser and Martinsburg. I lived in Inwood. What city do you live in?

January 18th, 2000, 05:00 PM
Yep, I've eaten at Jalopeno Tree. It's actually pretty good, only really good place to eat in town. Best Mexican food, definitely! I've been to Nacogdoches several times, the last two summers, in fact, for student council camp at SFA. Compared to Henderson, it's a pretty big town! :) Our band marches at marching contest every year at Homer Bryce Stadium. (Bryce was supposed to be from Henderson.)

January 18th, 2000, 06:50 PM
Hey all you SoCals: does anyone know if we can purchase tix for 2002 Nationals yet? I was at the Staples Center for the first time on Sunday to see Stars on Ice. It was an incredible show and the Staples Center is really nice. I'll just warn you ahead of time about the parking--it's horrendous :-( so allow lots of extra time. The center is right next to the L.A. Convention Center, and it seems like they share parking lots or something, because people were parking in the Staples lot for the Convention Center and vice versa. I'd love to see Michelle compete at Nationals, especially in 2002, since that competition will determine who's going to the Olympics!!

January 18th, 2000, 07:12 PM
Hi, eilaram, what school does your cousin go to? My hubby is a college professor, you think it's possible that he was your cousin's teacher? I won't be surprised, because it's such a small world! Buster, I really envy you. My husband and I lived in Boston about nine months last year, when he was having sebatical from his job. We missed Boston A LOT. (We miss it so much that we watch Practice and Ally McBeal just to see the scenery from there) You should stay there until the national is held there. Is it 2001 or 2002? I forgot?

January 18th, 2000, 08:46 PM
I live in NJ, near Philadelphia. kwanette-That's where my dad grew up!

January 18th, 2000, 09:37 PM
Am I the only Ohioan? I live in outside a small town called Sidney, about 1/2 hour north of Dayton. It's a pretty good location to catch skating events, because I'm only an 1 1/2 from Cincy and Columbus, and 3 hours south of Detroit. I'm about 6 hours from Chicago... I know this because I drove there on a day off from work in the summer of '98 to see COI yet again. It was the middle of summer (July) and I was in complete skating withdrawal. It turned out to be worth the drive... Michelle did a completely different program (Mulan) than she skated just a couple months before on the tour (Dante's Prayer). There were also some different skaters than were on the Cincinnati stop (Woetzel & Steuer, Lu Chen, Alexei Urmanov, & Tim Goebel were all added). Last October, I found out that I am about 5 hours north of Huntington, because I drove there for the ESPN Pros. I have also driven to places such as Milwaukee (8 hours) for skating events, and I will be going to Cleveland (4 hours) for Nationals. So I am very fortunate to live in an area that isn't too far from a lot of major cities.

January 18th, 2000, 10:00 PM
I live in Houston, Texas. I believe Jarrett mentioned it before...it's the most polluted city in US w/ just about zero activities for skating fans :(

January 18th, 2000, 10:16 PM
I live in Taegu, South Korea. I've been a MK fan since '98 Olympics. Nice to see you Willodale, are you from Korea? If so, I'm so glad I'm not the only one here. :)

January 19th, 2000, 03:18 AM
showzi - i agree, boston is a great town to be in if you're a tourist, student/prof, wealthy, or don't mind the fast-paced-ness of everything. and nine months was long enough for you to see everything, experience the history and all that it has to offer. you stayed just long enough to not tire of it. i've been here going on 7 years and am very ready to go back to my home state of indiana. although, i'd be lying if i said i wouldn't miss it here - it is an extremely unique city! :)

January 19th, 2000, 04:40 AM
I was born in Macau but I live and study in Sydney. Funny how there are nearly 700 members in this forum yet there are only about 3 asians. :) BTW, does anyone know where Macau is? or..has anyone ever heard of such a place?

January 19th, 2000, 05:20 AM
Actually, Macau has been in the news lately, because it was handed over from Portuguese to Chinese rule on Dec. 20. It is located on the southern coast of China, just west of Hong Kong.

January 19th, 2000, 05:24 AM
I live in Rockford, Illinois. It's a small town outside of Chicago. I will be moving to Atlanta, GA in a couple of months!!!

January 19th, 2000, 05:43 AM
You are right about Boston. One more thing--the housing expensive is AWFUL, if you live there permanetly. It's almost impossible to rent an apartment under 1000/month. Marco, I am asian too. I am originally from Taiwan, and came to US about 10 years ago to study, and met my husband here. I know Macau. I went to Hong Kong a few years ago, I wish I had have the chance to visit Maucau, which I heard and read about it's quite different from nearby HK.

January 19th, 2000, 06:05 AM
Marco, I used to spend quite a bit of time in Hong Kong (wonderful place--like NYC except clean and well-organized, with beautiful scenery), and went to Macau a lot! Love the Portugese + Chinese mixture of food & cultures. As an adult, I've lived in Ohio (there you go NicoleM!)----Connectticut------Manhattan----- New Jersey------Massachussetts------ back to New Jersey-----Pennsylvania-----back to Massachusetts (current stop). It's been remarked about me that I can't seem to live in any time zone except EST (though I did try to move to Arizona once and to Seattle once--both so beautiful!), and I was once voted as least likely (among all my friends) to ever live in California. Can't say why, I love to visit there.

January 19th, 2000, 07:27 AM
I have not read the posts of others but have saved the pages so I could get to know all of you better. I'm pretty sure the whole forum has posted a reply to this unsual yet creative topic. Well, anyway I assume a lot of you will be surprised to find out that I am from the PHILIPPINES... a country where snowy weather is as elusive as the sun NOT rising. My relationship with your world depends on cable TV and the internet! I'm half chinese (cantonese like michelle)... so can say that we're related in some way. (obviously trying real hard to be so).

January 19th, 2000, 09:25 AM
Heather I still can't believe you got to watch Michelle at 98 nationals LIVE!! What a great moment that must have been. It's Funny ,I was reading Peggy Fleming's book today and she mentions that performance many times as one of the two most memorable moments she has witnessed in skating (the other was Brian Boitano's Olympic performance). I am sure you knew that already : )

January 19th, 2000, 09:35 AM
hey heather u were there for the 98 nats too? i knew kwanette was but i didnt know u were:) wasn't it the best? my parents gave me the tix to the 98 nats, as a christmas gift! lets justs ay that was the bets gift ever! never again will i probably ever see a night of skating like that live! :) barbara

January 19th, 2000, 09:41 AM
Saria30, Oh my gosh! I live in Atlanta, GA. It is such a neat and beautiful place. You will have to let me know when you get here and I can tell you the best counties to live in and the ones not to live in. You can email me at: gemana@mindspring.com. I will be looking forward hearing from you! Talk to ya later.

January 19th, 2000, 10:32 AM
i'm asian, too! ha ha! this is fun! ;)

January 19th, 2000, 10:49 AM
los angeles, california. anyone else planning to go to the 2002 nationals. i was there for SOI last weekend and it was awesome. i can't wait until 2002! maybe we could meet each other there.

January 19th, 2000, 10:50 AM
Skateguru I'm right accross the Hudson from you! I live in Rockland County, but for me it's a good 30 min/1 hour to NYC because we have to cross the bridge and all Although now I study at Binghamton University, where I found a fellow MKGA member via Diane's list who lives a couple of buildings over from me!! I thought that was funny! As for all of you Floridians, I'm technically one since I was born in Miami and lived there until I was 5 :) -Heather :-)

January 19th, 2000, 11:24 AM
My name is Michelle sinclair and I live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I am definately not an Okie though!

January 19th, 2000, 12:02 PM
I'm from Toronto originally, though I consider myself a Calgarian (Alberta) as I've lived there the longest. Now I live in the US and I attend UCSD in San Diego. Any other Tritons here? I'm curious as to how many of you are living in San Diego :) I would love to correspond with any of you! I'm still very new to SD, and would love to have some advice on what to do here! Grace :)

January 19th, 2000, 12:11 PM
Showzi- I think its the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire.

January 19th, 2000, 12:47 PM
Yes, I know where Macau is, because I watch a lot of the cantonese movies made in Hong Kong, they illustrate Macau as a place for gambling..... and concerts...... :) Cool...so you're from there........

January 19th, 2000, 12:54 PM
Racine, WI showzi - I've heard of Eau Claire. Lavender - Racine is 1 hour drive from downtown Chicago, is that close enough?

January 19th, 2000, 01:40 PM
OMG, eilaram, that's where my husband works, and where I went to school. Cy93LMG, I HAVE been to Racine. I stayed there overnight once. I was hoping to visit Frank Llord Wright's building, but arrived too late for the last tour of the day. I am a big fun of Wright's architecutre. Have you visited the Johnson Wax Comapny yourself?

January 19th, 2000, 01:46 PM
Nationals was the best week of my life. Didn't even know how tired I was (between all the skating, and writing about it on my site, I had about an hour of sleep each night, LOL). We got the tickets two years before, and it was my 18th birthday present. :-) Obviously the best gift I've ever gotten! Skating comps/shows were actually my birthday present for 3 years in a row...but not this year. Oh well. Calum-That was a question on millionaire the other day. I gave the answer but I believe the guy got it wrong.

January 19th, 2000, 02:28 PM
I live in Eureka, California...way up north on the coast. But, NicoleM, I was born in Toledo. And Aries2 and Muri, I was raised in Miami and lived there for 25 years. I took figure skating lessons at The Polar Palace. Is it still there? Jordi, I lived in Orlando for a year in the 80's. I love your Todd images, I love Todd, too! And Sharon, I've not been to Lake Arrowhead. Have you gone there to see Michelle? Lucky you if you have!

January 19th, 2000, 02:31 PM
I guess your the closest fan to chicago so far. I've been to wisconsin several times to go skiing and to visit the dells. Did you go see mk at the competition that was in wisconsin this year? To get off the subject I also work around the espn zone place and michelle was there and I was so mad that I didn't know about it. I could of just walked around the corner.

January 19th, 2000, 04:53 PM
Sedona, AZ. Great to be part of this "wonderland."

I think I only saw one other Pennsylvanian here. I thought there would be more. I'm from Lebanon, PA - home of Lebanon Bologna (probably no one's ever heard of it!) Lebanon also used to be David Letterman's city for his top 10 list. I can't believe that I missed '98 nationals. Back then I wasn't as crazy about skating as I am now, and I only found out that nationals were going to held in Phila, very late. Too bad, because It's only a 2 hr drive for me to get to Philly.

January 19th, 2000, 05:28 PM
Ice Butterfly--I count three of us from Pennsylvania. You're from Lebanon, Sherry is from Williamsport and I am from Scranton. Anybody else??? And did anyone else see the COI show in Hershey last night. It was wonderful!!!!!!!!!! Mary Ada

Ice Butterfly
January 19th, 2000, 06:08 PM
No, I did not see COI last night. This is one of the first years I haven't seen COI in Hershey. I'm kind of dissapointed that the summer COI tour does not come to Hershey. It did in '96 and that's the first (and only) time I saw Michelle in person. I must say, that she is so impressive in person, and fast! (yes Dick Button, I said fast! She skated to Romanza and East of Eden - that's when I fell in love with that music and program! They are building a new arena in Hershey, and HOPEFULLY (cross my fingers), this will mean more serious figure skating. (Like actually having the Hershey's Kisses Figure Skating Challenge in Hershey where it should be!)

January 19th, 2000, 06:48 PM
All event tickets have been on sale for awhile. Single ticket events go on sale in Aug. 2002. It wouldn't be worth it for me to buy an all-event ticket, so I'm hoping to be able to purchase single tickets(with good locations)NO MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY I HAVE TO SPEND!!!!!!! I mentioned on page 1 that we should all get together. 2 years goes by VERY FAST!!!!! I AM GOING NO MATTER WHAT!

January 19th, 2000, 07:51 PM
I live in Bay area, CA. I went to graduate school in Phila. Do I also count as a Pennsylvanian?

January 19th, 2000, 08:09 PM
I live in los angeles, too. And I would love to go to the Nationals in 2002!! How early can we buy the tickets? And how much do they run? I should start saving up ASAP, shouldn't I?

January 19th, 2000, 08:30 PM
Rene and 3axel: I didn't know we could purchase all event tickets for Nationals already. Where have I been?! I definitely think we MK fans need to stick together, especially at such an important event. Are the tickets available through TicketMasters? Actually, I think I'd rather go in person to the Staples Center box office so I can hand-pick the location. I brought my friend with me to COI and SOI, and he told me that there is absolutely no way that he could watch a live competition because even the exhibitions make him too nervous. He almost had a heart attack when Jenni Meno and Todd Sands tripped and fell during a program!

January 19th, 2000, 08:42 PM
..that's so funny about how your friend get so nervous about seeing it live. But it's true. Can you imagine us actually being there at Nationals?!!! I know my blood pressure will definitely rise. But the excitement is just too good to pass up. About buying tickets, I'm not sure what the best way is. Anyone out there with an answer?

January 20th, 2000, 04:12 AM
Showzi - nope, I haven't been to Wingspread. I assume that's the building you're talking about. Wingspread houses the Johnson Foundation. Wright also designed the Johnson Wax headquarters and a half-dozen or so other buildings in town. I've only lived in Racine for three years and have only managed to visit the zoo (which is one of about a dozen FREE admission zoos in the US!) Lavender - I so much wanted to go to Green Bay to see the Masters but I couldn't find anyone to go with. I love skating and am glad to have found an internet outlet for keeping me informed, but I was not going to make that trip alone. If it had been in Milwaukee, I'd have been first in line. I hope to take my daughter to COI in Milwaukee this year. (I've never been to COI) As for Chicago - I love Navy Pier and the Shedd Aquarium. When my kids get older we'll check out the Museum and Planetarium too. I tried to talk my hubby into a trip to Cleveland next month. No luck.

January 20th, 2000, 04:18 AM
Hey everyone! I am from South Jersey. REALLY small quiet town.

January 20th, 2000, 05:00 AM
3axel---I found information and ticket prices etc. at www.la2002.com/I think everything that you need to know should be at that site. There's even an e-mail address for other questions or information. Plus hotel info "coming soon" Good luck. maryada

January 20th, 2000, 05:15 AM
I should try doing that url as a hyperlink. Never tried <A HREF=ithttp://www.la2002.com/ >ithttp://www.la2002.com/ </A>

January 20th, 2000, 05:21 AM
OOPS----don't know how that happened I'll try once more. <A HREF=http://www.la2002.com/>http://www.la2002.com/</A>

January 20th, 2000, 06:55 AM
I also found my info at that web site. You can also order your All-event tickets there. I don't know if going to the Staple Center would be better though. I'm going to get a single seat so hopefully I can get a pretty good one. I'll even pay big bucks at a ticket scalper, I don't care! BTW, a LEGAL ticket scalper! Hey N. Californians, you should join us too!

January 20th, 2000, 06:58 AM
Add me to the Pennsylvanian Group. I'm from Bucks County, PA.. Willowdale & Pumpkin - I'm too Korean. I was born in Seoul, S. Korea and raised in United States... It's nice to meet u all!!! :)

January 20th, 2000, 07:00 AM
I was born in raised in Virginia but have spent the last year and a half in New Mexico as the result of a job relocation.

January 20th, 2000, 10:05 AM
You must be joking--here in MA, the Lebanon is regarded as a rare gourment meat--I'm not kidding, they keep it in a special case at the deli counters!

January 20th, 2000, 10:45 AM
If you're interested in flying up to LA for the 2002 nationals, you can get from the airport to the Staples Center/downtown area really easily, and since you're a student, I'll assume you want the least expensive option. [Also, the traffic and parking can be terrible.] Take the free shuttle from the airport to Parking Lot C. There is a LAX transit center right in that area, and take the 439 bus to downtown. The bus stops right in front of the Staples Center, which is right next to the convention center. I pass by that area every night on my way home from work (I take a commuter bus -- can you imagine, someone in LA who takes the bus instead of driving!). The Staples Center area is well lit, there are usually a number of people walking around, and it looks safe enough for women to be walking around even after dark.

January 20th, 2000, 11:11 AM
Hey Beth2000!!! I definetly will e-mail you when I get to Atlanta. I think I will be living in Cobb County, I am not sure yet, but I will let you know.

January 20th, 2000, 01:06 PM
NicoleM, you're not the only one from Ohio! I'm from Columbus, and will also be going to Nationals in Cleveland! I can't wait--it's the first time I'll be seeing Michelle in person!

January 20th, 2000, 02:20 PM
Saria30 that is so cool. Cobb county is on the otherside of town for us. We live in Walton County which is country! We love it out here in the country. All we hear are cows! Every once and awhile on our way to church or taking our son to school we find a cow out of its area and will be eating grass by the road. It is pretty funny!

January 20th, 2000, 04:11 PM
I live in Alabama. The only skating show that comes is winter COI and every few years summer COI. And they come over 2 hours away from my home. Hi fellow Alabamian---Armchairskater.

January 20th, 2000, 05:58 PM
Rene, I'm from Northern California (the Bay Area) and my sister and I have already bought our tickets for the 2002 Nationals! Can't wait to see Michelle win another U.S. National's title! We've been pretty blessed to have so many skating competitions come to the Bay Area. We got to see Michelle win the 1996 U.S. Nationals in San Jose. We also got to see Michelle skate at Lake Arrowhead last July in the tribute to Frank Carroll. This was our first time to Lake Arrowhead and got to spend several days there over the 4th of July weekend. I found out about that event from a poster from this forum!

January 20th, 2000, 08:36 PM
SW, my husband also rides the commuter bus, he used to take metrolink, but he says the air conditioning is better and the seats are more comfortable for SLEEPING! He works across the street from the Staple Center and you're right, they have cleaned up the place pretty well. sgfan, I grew up in Pinole (when it was a tiny nowhere town near Berkeley). But now I live near the foothills of Glendora. About 15 miles east of Pasadena. About 20 miles from the Staple Center.

January 20th, 2000, 09:18 PM
Thanks for the info!! I'll actually probably drive down, and bum a coach off of some friends I have in L.A. I'm not sure when I'll get tickets, but I know that I'm not going to buy the all events ticket. I'll just stick to compulsarary dance and Ladies short and long. GRACE... Here is your fellow triton!!! UCSD rocks! Too cool. What college are you from... Marshall girl here.

January 20th, 2000, 10:22 PM
though u guys all come from the west,i'm proud to say that i'm from Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia and a big Michelle fan!!

January 21st, 2000, 04:51 AM
I used to live in Missisauga Ontario... (Canada) but now... i live in Hong Kong... (where Danny Kwan was orginally from) Hong Kong rocks...are there any fellow HongKong-nians here?? SJB: HK.. clean?? hmmm... i dunno about that...

January 21st, 2000, 06:51 AM
littlepang, remember I was comparing Hong Kong to New York City! (not a very high standard of cleanliness to beat, I mean). Yes, compared to New York, I think Hong Kong is so clean (I mean, think of the subways--no comparison),the buses run on time, things actually work---heaven! Now, for mano, my view of NYC is probably out of date, since I haven't lived there for at least ten years. So I hear that it's better now.

January 21st, 2000, 07:31 AM
EEK! YEAH!!! ANOTHER TRITON! I didn't think there'd be anyone from UCSD here.... :) I go to Warren - live in the dorm apartments, in my second year. You? (year, apartment/dorm/offcampus?)

January 21st, 2000, 10:27 AM
Second year, live in Marshall lowers... Said it before, but too cool!

January 21st, 2000, 12:05 PM
I'm a college student in Columbia University, New York City

January 21st, 2000, 01:33 PM
Rene, I know where Pinole is. I grew up in Oakland. I love living in the Bay Area not only for the cultural diversity but for the weather. Can you recommend a hotel close to the Staples Center? Or does anyone know where the skaters will possibly stay at during the 2002 US National competition?

January 21st, 2000, 02:47 PM
I live in Mass. :) Vicky <A HREF=http://members.xoom.com/angelonice/default.htm>http://members.xoom.com/angelonice/default.htm</A>

January 21st, 2000, 06:40 PM
Sgfan. I wouldn't stay near the Staple Center. But I'm a big spoiled baby! My husband works across the street. I will ask him about the best/closest hotels that are nice(safe). You can probobly stay a few miles away and take a cab. check back here in a few days and I will let you know or you can e-mail me. Tracie iannieto@earthlink.net I can't believe you know where Pinole is. I went back there last year and I can't believe how different it looks! It used to be a small quiet town with all new homes. It's really gone down hill. Oh well.

January 21st, 2000, 07:19 PM
Maryada, thanks for the link! This is so exciting! I've never seen a skating competition in person, and have only seen Michelle skate once (at last year's COI). Rene, I'm with you re: staying near the Staples Center--not a good area! But there are some great hotels downtown--might be pretty expensive, I'm not sure. There are some nice places in Pasadena and those areas that might be okay. I'm a Valley Girl (and proud of it), so I'm most familiar with that area.

January 21st, 2000, 07:47 PM
this is great! i live in san jose, california. surfs up!

January 21st, 2000, 07:58 PM
Webue, Finally, another Ohioan! Have a great time at Nationals in Cleveland. You'll probably run into me there. I'll be the one babbling about Michelle non-stop! Heehee... FlashoBlue, Toledo's about two hours north of me. FYI, you share a birthplace with Scott Hamilton. :-)

Little Pang, glad to hear from you, you haven't been around much. Last time I was in H.K., I overdosed on food, there is no place on earth that has better pastries than H.K. Not only the taste, but the color and texture. There is something called the 1000 layered cake? actually not a cake but the layers are v. thin, and made of flour, and the whole thing is steamed. How about the dumplings with shark's fin soup in it, DELICIOUS. BTW, did you ever send off the B day gift to MK? I remember you said you got her a stuff toy monkey? and some special chocolate... Which address did you send that to.

January 22nd, 2000, 11:36 AM
I am just tickled pink at all the responses of where everyone is from. WOW! So many of them from Hong Kong and other countries! I love coming here to read where everyone is from.

January 22nd, 2000, 02:12 PM
Heather, I can't believe your dad grew up in Ventnor...normally, no one ever has heard of it so I just say Atlantic City.Sure, rub it in...LOL...that you got the Nats tickets for your 18th birthday. I turned 49 at midnight the night of the lp...best birthday gift ever...seeing that legendary ARTISTIC...had to say it...skate. Beezerb..I was engaged my senior year in college to a guy from Sayreville....small world!

January 22nd, 2000, 07:05 PM
mmmm.... the thousand layer cake..yummy...it's pretty traditional... so you can't find it everywhere.. and the shark fin dumpling with soup..it's one of my favourite dim sum.. umm..thx for stirring up my craving for the thousand layer cake...it's raining here now..but i think i'll be out all afternoon to sink my teeth in one of those...~_~ as for the bday gifts (stuffed toy monkey.and some banana shaped choco)... we(me and my friend) did send them..to ice castle.. still wonderin if michelle got it..but I've been teasing my friend that she wrote only her address on the box.. and maybe she got a thank-u note..but is keeping it to herself..hehe.. but hey..i got an interview for my exchange program..so i might get to go to UCLA and ask michelle ...lol's... SJB: the subway is really clean compared to NY.. but the air pollution here is horrifying.. i think i'll melt from the acid rain if i go out this afternoon..

January 23rd, 2000, 09:44 PM
It's nice to see that so many of you guys are Asian and know where Macau is :) I am actually in Macau right now holidaying :))))) except that it is raining big time..cant go out :( Anyway, for those who live in Asia and have Star Sports Channel: they are showing the 6 grand prix events now, bad news is that they have already shown skate america and skate canada :((( tonight it will be the Sparkassen Cup...it is nice to be able to watch some figure skating in Asia, because they never show any on TV, but the bad thing is that they have really really really pathetic commentary...basically the guy knows nothing about figure skating and all he says is "great landing", "unlucky on that one" and "this is a spin"...everytime Todd Elderege does a triple Lutz or Axel he says "great quad"...

March 5th, 2000, 01:27 PM
I was interested in seeing where everyone lived and to see if anyone was from Michigan like I am. Nice sunny day today.

March 5th, 2000, 01:42 PM
I actually live in Los Angeles...and will have to have a life support system close by when I attend the Nationals held here in, I believe, 2002 (RIGHT BEFORE OLYMPICS!!!)

I'll be sooooooo nervous (cheering MK on). Especially since there are now several high-profile skaters besides Michelle who call LA their homebase -- who'll be gunning for Olympic berths: Naomi, Sasha, etc.

If anyone else in the LA area plans to attend nationals then, I'd love for us all to sit together so that the life support system can be shared as we try to shake our nerves while watching the competition. Maybe I'll just bring a flask w/ me so that I'll be "medicated"/"sedated" throughout the whole thing!!!(smile...but somewhat serious)

March 5th, 2000, 02:04 PM
Anyone ever hear of Davis, CA?

March 5th, 2000, 02:22 PM
Near the Detroit Skate Club in
Michigan. I don't skate myself,
but have been able to go to the
DSC many times for events and
have met several great skaters
from there (Todd Eldredge, Nicole
Bobeck). At last year's Junior
Grand Prix Finals I stood next to
Punsalan & Swallow for a couple
of performances and my seat was
directly in front of Jamie
Silverstein's mom. I got to hear
a lot of good gossip!

March 5th, 2000, 02:30 PM
I forgot to say a special "hi" to Mariana, who also is from Michigan.(Can you believe this weather??) Actually I posted before reading this page! I also forgot to mention that I was at Skate America in Detroit in '95 when Michelle unveiled her new look (Salome). I still remember the "gasping" noises from the audience when they figured out who she was. At first everyone was looking for Michelle but we couldn't find her!

Anyone in the LA-area plan to attend this comp?

I know it's far off, but this is SUCH an impt. competition...I plan to start bugging USFSA re: when tickets are going on sale right after this season ends to make sure I have best, perfect seats.

I noticed some posts from January had questions re: Staple Center -- good places to stay, etc.

I've been there (and live in Pasadena) and have tons of info. It's a FABULOUS venue.

March 6th, 2000, 09:12 AM

devoted2mk all you have to do to start a new thread is click on "New topic"

Kwan Luv- you are not going to believe this but just last September in 99' we went through the small town of Flagstaff, Arzonia we even ate at the Italian restuarant. Now how neat is that? We were on our way to the Grand Canyon. All I can say about the Grand Canyon is, there aren't any words to describe the beauty of the Grand Canyon, especially a sunrise and sunset! That place is just beautiful.

andycat-yes, I'm going. I live 15 mins east of Pasadena off the 210. All event tickets have been on sale for months. Single event tickets go on sale August 2001. I can't use an all event so will wait for single tickets. If I can't get a good seat I will go to one of those ticket scalping places. I'm hoping that only buying one seat will help my chances of getting a really good seat.

Beth-I hate you too! LOL

I sorry Rene! How about you come down here to GA and when we go I will pack you in our suitcase(of course you would be flying in the baggage compartment). Even if I can't use all the tickets, I think I'll just buy them all now in hopes of getting better seats. Hope to see you there! We've got it made being in the Pasadena area...Staple Center takes about 15 minutes from my area.

Hi guys!

I've been a little bit of a nomad lately. Born and raised in Silver Spring, MD. Go Teddy! Woohoo! Went to school in Ithaca, NY. Spent a year making northern Cali feel like home, I absolutely adore San Francisco. And now school has roped me back to Baltimore, MD. So here I will be for the next four years.

March 6th, 2000, 07:14 PM
andycat, I live in the L.A. area (SF Valley) and plan to attend Nationals, but I'm not sure if my nerves can handle it. I get nervous just watching competitions on TV, and the 2002 Nationals will determine who's going to the Olympics!! Eek! But yes, I do want to attend.

Jen, my dad is from Duluth, MN. I love it there!! (Although I've only been there in the summer and fall, so I understand I have no conception of what Duluth is truly like.) What a kick! Do you go to UMD? Just thinking about Duluth makes me want to go back there. I love the trees, the lakes, the nice friendly people. Is it still a beautiful town? I haven't been there in nearly 15 years, but I have very happy memories. I'm always running into ex-Duluthians here in Los Angeles.

Brieanne! Although I no longer live in Vancouver WA, I used to live there and attended high school there! Wow, I've never met anyone that has actually lived in Vancouver since I moved, and now I'm overly excited. I live now in San Diego, attending UCSD, and I miss Washington a lot!

It really is a small world! I don't go to UMD but CSS. I am not a native Duluthian but I love it here as well! The weather right now is unbelievable. It is only March and people are out in t-shirts and shorts <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START 8) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/glasses.gif ALT="8)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> They are forcasting possible snow for later this week <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :( --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":("><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> . Duluth is still a beautiful place all year round. I especially love the Lake Walk and the North Shore Drive. You really should visit again!

IzzyS, I've had the same concerns. I literally feel like throwing up waiting for the results of a major comp for Michelle. My nerves in 2002 will only rival '97 and '98 Nationals and Olys. I honestly don't know if I'll enjoy it. But I feel that I'm so close I'll never have this chance again. I think I posted it before, but we should definatly get together before the comp. Andycat, let us know when you get your tickets. If it were Worlds being here I would use an all-event ticket, but for Naitonals only the Ladies is a must-see for me.

I'm originally from Dale City, Virginia (where Malinina now trains - I don't remember an ice rink when I was growing up!)

I've lived in a lot of different US cities, including New Orleans where the only skating show I remember ever coming into town was one Disney on Ice show.

I now live in Apopka which is just outside of Orlando,FL.

I just checked the USFSA site re: 2002 nat'l tickets and zoweee! The best seats are $500!

I guess I'll really be showing my love for Michelle by buying these! I'm also now, getting excited about Dance...I love Silverstein and Pakerek(sp?) and it looks like the jr.'s are doing well in Germany

I will post to you when I buy the tix...which may be as soon as Friday of this week. (Yes, I'm obsessed!) I even looked at the suites but they're outrageous - $24,000!

IzzyS, I'm with you on the nerves thing. I went to Nationals in 1999/Salt Lake City, thinking it would be a nice, calm competiion to go to since Tara wasn't on the scene -- and almost went into convulsions when I saw how good Naomi and the up and comers, were! And, it was especially stressful since prior to that I had never heard of them! Who knows what the scene will be like by 2002!

I seriously think I'll have a couple glasses of wine prior to the comp. so that I don't have panic attacks!!!

After the 2001 comp., I'm going to start a post for people attending 2002 so maybe we can do something to support her?? It would be great if people that feel as strongly as we do, can support both Michelle -- and one another!!

Jen, that is sssooo cool! I'm really getting homesick for Duluth. My dad went back to visit a couple of years ago, but I couldn't get away from work to go with him. We talk about it all the time, though. I love Park Point and the drive along Skyline Parkway (I think that's what it's called). What is the temperature for shorts and T-shirts? In L.A. it's in the high 50s right now and we're all freezing!

Rene, we definitely should plan to meet at Nat'ls. Maybe it won't be so nerve-racking if a bunch of MK fans are there together. It's such an important competition, and I know there will be a lot of hungry skaters looking for their chance to make it to the Olympics. I'm getting nervous just thinking about it! But I remember reading Heather's reports from '98 Nationals and wishing I could be there to see it in person. It really is a once in a lifetime chance. After all, how often to important skating competitions come to Southern California?

In March shorts and t-shirt weather here is high 50's <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :lol --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> . I think it was in the 60's in Minneapolis. I love to drive down Park Point and walk on the beach. PLease go to Nationals then I can say that someone from Duluth (well sort of) is in the audience.

Marlana yes that is the bridge I was talking about! We use to live in the Waterford Pontiac area then moved from there to the Plymouth Canton area. Then left Michigan all together to move down here to Atlanta Georgia. I think it was the best move we ever made. Sorry, but about this time every year in Michigan I would get depressed b/c everytime you thought that it was warming up booom! You would get a big snow storm. I hated that stuff and I don't miss it for the world<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> Beth is over here doing a happy dance<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START >D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/grin.gif ALT=">D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> !

andycat, is it $500/seat for one event?! That sounds like scalpers' prices. Or is that the "all-event" ticket? Actually, that's not too bad if it is the all-event ticket, since you get to see everything, I think. It sounds like something I'll need to plan for now, huh? I mean, I get the feeling the tix are going to sell out pretty fast. Or maybe I'm just obsessing again. We'll probably be more nervous than the skaters!

Jen, it's amazing the difference between Duluthians and Californians. We Angelenos are a bunch of wimps! Our cold, rainy weather is the leading story on the news these days. The Duluthians are probably laughing at us! I remember once when I visited there I think it was in the high 20s/low 30s, and I'd never experienced anything like it. I thought I was going to freeze to death. I do plan to attend Nationals (nerves permitting) in 2002. I'm looking forward to it. We'll have to make some posters or something to wave at the cameras to our online pals!

March 8th, 2000, 11:13 PM
IzzyS...sorry to scare you! $500 is for all-event tickets (best seats). However, "all-event" doesn't include the exhibitions (not fair).

Hi Beth. My husband and most everyone I know would agree with you. I just don't mind winter. And it makes spring so much more exciting. My one major fear is tornados and during the winter I don't have to worry about them.

March 9th, 2000, 11:21 AM
Hey Marlana where we live here in Georgia(b/c we are on the right side of town)we don't worry about tornadoes<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> But I know what you mean though about worrying about them. We have a basement so that helps, but nothing major has ever happened here where we live. Now if we lived in Marietta, GA that is a whole different story. They get tornadoes left and right. We live in Loganville and so far nothing. Actually since we have lived down here(we use to live in Gwinnett County)we have never had any tornadoes, and now that we live just ten miles from where we use to live we haven't had any tornadoes<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> It makes me happy knowing that so far(knock on wood)that we haven't had anything like that. I dream about being in one all the time<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :( --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":("><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> I just hope that my dreams never come true<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON STOP--> !

Charm city is going thru a warm spring like period for 2 days we are in the 80s.
Silver Spring, to me has changed so much in the past 10 years.
I like the state of MD.
