Well done, Michelle. What a class act you are. Thank you for respecting and representing your sport, the Olympics, your Country, your gender, your race and all living creatures. Thank you for being a great example of walking in light.

Absolutely amazing you can sit there in all your grandiose glory and make such a judgmental call about a person whose very spirit defines the meaning of grace and poise.

Whomever made that second comment is someone of an extremely childish nature. Look up the word selfish and see where you with in with your rediculous comment. For all you know, the USA won’t win gold. People like you are basically afraid of Michelle, simply because you know her competitive spirit and you know she can do it.

Michelle’s going to the games had nothing to do with being selfish. She’s someone of great skill, class, talent, and positivity. You are a weak fan of which ever skater you support simply because you feel more comfortable with their obtaining success now that, she’s withdrawn from the competition.

You should have more confidence in your skater and know that they could win even with Michelle present.

Hi Michelle! I wish things could have turned out better for you at the olympics, but sweetheart, please continue your strength and stong will, and get healthy. We will miss your beautiful smile, and your passion for skating. I am sure I am not alone when I say that whatever you choose to do with your future, teaching, entertaining…whatever it is..we will look forward to seeing you again. I wish you the best of luck. Michelle Kwan is definitely class act. Of course, I’m sorry she won’t get to compete for the gold in Torino, she put the good of the sport before her own ambitions. There should be more like you in all of sport, Michelle!!

I still think Michelle is the greatest figure skater ever. Who cares about the Olympics. The Girl has 9 national title and 5 World titles. You expect me to put weight on an event that comes around every four years and is overhyped dribble.

Our family wishes you the best, Michelle. You will always be one of our heroes.

I’ve been a longtime lurker of this forum, and I heartily regret not registering in time to post about how much the NBC “tribute” sucked. I’ve almost reached the venerable age of 29 (I guess by their standards I should be dead and buried), and I’ve found that the older you get, the more perspective you get, and the more you realize just how little nattering nabobs of negativism like Jimmy Roberts and Bob Costas matter in the long run. Michelle, just keep making yourself, your family, and your country proud, as you always have. Cherish your many achievements, both the past ones and the ones to come, and take some much-needed time for yourself - you’ve certainly earned it, after representing and delighting us all for so long. Enjoy life, for there is so much more to come, and I look forward to celebrating more of your much-decorated and accomplished career in the near future. God bless you and be with you always.

Thank you for skating, loving skating, and leading us to love skating.

You won a gold medal in my book ages ago :)

  14. Troy February 13th, 2006 6:52 am

Michelle Kwan, you are a true American winner - you faught hard for your country for over a decade and we thank you for every minute of it.

You may have a void in the Olympic medal set and the US may have a void on their figure skating team but you never have a void in your heart!

Wow. Michelle Kwan you are an outstanding person. Your parents and family and friends ought to be so proud of you! Michelle, your *country* is proud of you too. As far as I’m concerned you are GOLD and you don’t have a thing left to proove to anyone… GOD BLESS YOU.

In my opinion, Michelle is a true champion. I feel that anyone can skate like they are the best during a couple routines at an olympic games. Michelle, however, has been skating the best for a decade. I sincerely hope that all of her great achievements are not overshadowed by the small fact that she has never won olympic gold. There is so much more important things about Michelle that should be celebrated. She will always be the very best in the world in my book.

P.S.: For those of you that watched the Nagano games, I for one feel she won the gold there anyway, how about you?

Gold or no gold, MK, the Olympics women’s competition will not be a real competition or even interesting without you & they all know it! Take one of those high profile jobs & show ‘em all! Be well, MK.

Hello lovely Michelle Kwan, America’s sweatheart!

I’m an ex-NHL hockey player (only briefly, in the 1980s with the New York Rangers, and no I never won the Stanley Cup).
Of the men who play ice hockey that I know, you are considered the greatest artist on skates, male or female, of all time.
Of course many women skaters feel the same way about you.

    Your record Miss Kwan speaks for itself;
5 golds in the World Cup of Figure Skating, the World Championships.
8 golds in the U.S. championships.
And a silver and bronze in the Olympics.
Has anyone ever achieved anything like that? I doubt it.

Like an ex-pro soccer player I know from South America once told me, Michelle Kwan is to figure skating what Brazil is to men’s soccer (Like you in figure skating, the Brazilian men’s soccer team has won the World Cup 5 times, the most of any team).

What impresses me the most about your skating achievments are in fact the 5 golds you won in the World Championships of figure skating.
The competition level is the same in the world championships as it is in the olympics, but to me it is an even more important competition, because it is all about only one sport; figure skating.
The World Championships in figure skating are like the World Cup in soccer. People in the know about figure skating know this.

My wife and daughters (all of whom figure skate) have such great admiration for you Michelle; as a skater, as a person, and as a beautiful young woman.
I love my two daughters very much (they are 8 and 10 years old), and I love the fact that you have been such a good role model for them, as a figure skater, and also as a person.

I am sorry that because of your injuries you had to bow out of the olympics. But maybe in the long haul it is for the best, as I know you have other things to do with your life also, other than being a skater.
Besides Michelle, if you had won another olympic medal, to go along with the 8 U.S. medals, 5 world medals, and 2 olympic medals you already have, you would be almost too perfect.
Even Michelle Kwan, figure skating goddess that she is, is still human, one of us mere mortals. ‘wink’

Michelle, you have brought joy to my family’s lives. And to many others.
May God bless you and your family.

    Take care.
Your old hockey playin’ buddy up in Minneapolis,
    John

    Dearest Michelle:

You have accomplished so much and in doing so, you helped figure skating grow in popularity. You will always be tops in my book.

  20. Anonymous May 10th, 2006 6:21 am

Michelle, you don’t need Olympic Gold. You all ways stated that you wanted to “Be remembered” in figure skating……you accomplished that so long ago, and you’ve continued to insipre, impress, and shock us all over and over and over again.

While Olympic Gold would be great; you don’t need it! Olympic Gold can not beat you.

We all love you and will continue to love, support, honor, and probobly obsess a little bit!! :)

    Luv
    D
